Rating: Summary: Not as bad as everyone thinks; very intellectual Review: A lot of people are beating up on this book, but really, I found it very interesting. The whole idea that Memnoch, the devil, might not be the "bad one" was a very interesting notion. The ending of the book is cryptic enough to make you wonder exactly whether your assumptions were correct or not. (Those who've read it - feel free to email me with what you thought it meant - I'm not sure :) PhotoJim@usa.net) This book is very intellectual. If you don't like thinking, it may not be for you. I enjoyed it and found it worth the time.
Rating: Summary: Couldn't put it down... Review: Having read all of the Vampire Chronicles, I can honestly say that Memnoch the Devil was my favorite. It really explores the nature of God, man and the devil. It's a fitting end to the Chronicles.
Rating: Summary: But there is one part I don't understand Review: How did Lestat serve Memnoch??. When He gets his eye back, Memenoch thanks him for a job perfectly done. What did he do?? This book was excellentand I totally recommend it!!
Rating: Summary: Good reading, but not her best. Review: Stop trying to compare "memnoch" to any of Anne's other books. This story is of itself a good read, but if your looking for a "Vampire Lestat" or "Queen of the dammned" this isn't it. Anne has done a good job of revealing some of her personal beliefs on heaven and hell, good and evil, but perhaps leaves out the action and gothic romance/horror we've come to expect from the vampire series. Sience the end of "queen..." lestat has had a continuing drop of machisimo, and hasbecome less enamored and more afraid of what he is. I think we all would like to see the old confidant Lestat back. In "Memnoch..." we are taken on a whirlwind tour of heaven and hell but I was left dry after seeing the standard "Elysian fields" vs. the "Fire and brimstone" I was hoping for somthing more from anne, and the whole idea of drinking the actual blood of Christ is a bit over the top for me. I can't tell you not to read this book, but I would borrow a friends copy or go to the library, you can probably leave this one out of your private collection.
Rating: Summary: An excellent representation of creativity Review: This is the first book in the Vampire Chronicles that I've read (backwards, I know) but I was intrigued. I didn't find it hard to read at all. In fact, I've read harder in my 12th grade English class this year. Anyway, she has taken a very touchy subject and twisted it around and showed us a very different viewpoint. I loved this book, and if what I've seen by other comments is true, I will love her other books just as much.
Rating: Summary: Hail Anne Rice! Review: This book is NOT a waste a time unlike what cheryl_ptt@hotmail.com said. This book was really very controversial being about the Devil trying to help better mankind instead of destroying it, like we are taught in church. It's really pretty ironic and I think it is brilliant writing by Anne Rice. One of her bests. I am total Lestat fan and think this book completed his entire character making him scared and more human. The ending is very cool also.
Rating: Summary: I could not put this book down - it's brilliant Review: I thought this book was really great. It was different than the other Vampire Chronicle books, but in a good way. I just have to say Armand is my favourite character and am sorry Anne Rice felt the need to kill this character. She could have written a new series about him.
Rating: Summary: Stupid, A total waste of time!!! Review: I was waiting anxiously to read more on my heroic vampires-Louis and Lestat ,unfortunately.... it SUCKS!! This book is complete trash and I really felt like strangling Anne Rice! I can't believe she can actually write so coolly about Memnoch, the devil as though he was God. The devil was made to sound heroic and God was ridiculed endlessly!! Although this book is only fiction, still I loath to find that someone would actually cook up such a humiliating and inhuman tale.
Rating: Summary: Enthralling.....but YES it is different Review: It is very interesting to read all of the comments written here. Why do care if this book is not exactly like the other vampire chronicles? Anne Rice is trying to do something different and if she were writing exactly what she thought that her readers would like and only that, we may not have gotten the first four vampire chronicles. Just let her be! This book is very insightful, even if just a different way to look at the catholic/christian religious viewpoint along with the vampire issue.I believe that some readers will be in for a surprise, however, this book is anything but boring. Read it, try it out, and make your own decision, this book is definitely worth it.
Rating: Summary: Where's Lestat? Review: I love Lestat, dearly. I also like Anne Rice. I have moved onto her Witches books, but what happened to the Vampire Chronicles? Lestat wasn't even in the last one! She made him look so weak which isn't his character at all. Lestat wouldn't of taken Memnoch's crap even if he is the Devil. I truthfully like how it started, but Anne kept rambling and rambling and I started to loose interest. I swear, it took me months to read this, I was waiting to just finish it. She took 300 pages to explain the Creation then the leftovers had no action! The end was just pathetic, but didn't we all know the ending? I knew it was going to end like that! Then they made Lestat look crazy by tieng him up? He wouldn't of been so afraid like that! That was not my Lestat. The book was simply boring to me. It didn't have a real point except that Lestat got questioned to help the Devil in something I hardly understood anyhow. How could I with all that yapping about stupid stuff? Ok, I'm sorry. It was an ok book, but I don't see how my mom calls it her favorite. I personally can't wait for Pandora and Armand. I still think she should write a book about Khayman. Anna, 14.
