Summary: Worst Ann Rice Novel I've Ever Read
Review: Normally I am an avid fan of Ann Rice novels. I've read Body Thief and Ramses and Interview so many times I know sections practically by heart. But this sorry excuse for a novel, especially a much awaited return to Lestat and his deeds, left me wanting. Rice's trip into the unknown realm was perhaps the worst side bar she has ever ventured down. Pandora was a nice return to her standard writing. That was fortunate because I feared her style had changed forever and that I would be left without a source for my vampiric novels.

Summary: A philosophical treat
Review: All you people who attack thge book for attacking christianity and creation are totally wrong, the book does nothing more but offer a new way of looking at things, and it comes off fantastically. For those who are not avid bible thumpers and carry their faith to the point where they follow the Old Testament to the very letter: If you sin with your left eye, pluck it out!!! I mean, can you look at this book without saying it is blasphemy and it's boring? It was less action oriented than the others, of course, but not if the action takes place where it should be... Your mind. The philosophcial implications and the incredible outlook of this book is sure to please the intelligent reader and present, not blasphemy, but food for thought. This is possibly Rice's best work yet!!!

Summary: It has nothing got do with the chronicles
Review: One of the things I always liked about the series was it's nihilism and agnosticism. The closest thing to God previously was Akasha or Maharet. Now she goes off on this long winded, boring essay of validation for judeo-christian mythology, presumably offending anyone from a different background. I thought I could get through it till we are told Jesus was God on earth. What does this have to do with the vampires? Nada. Bring back the vampire in the Himalayan peaks feasting on long lines of worshipful pilgrims. Now THAT'S theology.

Summary: Brilliantly creative; writing style mediocre
Review: The critics are all wet on this one, it's a fantastic read. Ms. Rice, as usual, displays incredible creativity as she continues to construct this wonderful universe in her mind. She does not write very well, but her ideas are transcendant. If only she would collaborate with Stephen King, who can write but is apparently burned out of ideas. . .

Summary: Perhaps the worst book I have ever read
Review: I read this book 6 months ago, and was not pleased to say the least. I thought it was the least readable book I had read in years. Recently, being without any new reading material in the house, I picked it up again. I just wanted to see if I had really given the book a fair shake. I started to reread it, and I realized I had not given the book its just due. It not the least readable book I have encountered recently. IT IS THE MOST HORRIBLE, PATHETIC EXCUSE FOR A NOVEL THAT I HAVE EVER SEEN. This book, for some reason, moves me to anger. That being said, what makes me react so strongly? It certainly must have some compelling qualities to cause such strong feelings, even if those feelings are disgust and loathing. Is it the tedious theology, the blathering style, the blatant homoerotocism? I am not bothered by anyone's religious beliefs as long as they don't infringe upon the rights of anyone else. I am not bothered by anyone's sexual preferences, as long as they remain among consenting adults. I am, however, bothered by overblown, unnecessarily wordy imagery that masquerades as style. I am bothered by Rice's thinly disguised arrogance in this book...This book is not entertainment, it is manifesto of the author's beliefs, likes, and dislikes. That is not necessarily a bad thing, but it certainly is offputting here. This is not really a part of the vampire chronicles (which i find entertaining but not superb), this is a chance for Rice to expound on what she finds sensual, holy, and "cool"...Compared to this drivel, Harlequin romances start to look like Moby Dick. To reiterate, this is the most amazingly bad book I have ever read. I will never again read Anne Rice.

Summary: Incredible story!
Review: I bought Memnoch the day it came out and sat on my porch for three hours, reading the book from cover to cover. After my initial reaction (I walked around in a stupor for two days pondering it all) I re-read it and fell in love. The ending may not have been what people wanted, but it was right. I've never believed in Christian theology, and this book really didn't make me want to start. It did bring to focus little things I always questioned about their (the christians) faith. For example, if Memnoch (satan) was an angel once, why would god completely abandon one of his own. Yes, mistakes, errors in judgement do happen, and should be forgiven. Just little points like that. But, loved it, suggest it to everyone. Next in line to Cry to Heaven, it is her best ever!

Summary: HELL OF A BOOK!!!
Review: Memnoch the Devil WAS MY FIRST ANNE RICE BOOK, AND I TOTALLY LOVED IT. I KNEW NOTHING ABOUT LESTAT OR ANY OF THE OTHER PREVIOUS BOOKS, BUT I WAS NOT LOST. MEMNOCH PRESENTS A STORY WHICH IS VERY ENTERTAINING AND KEPT ME READING FOR MORE. THE SIZE OF THE BOOK AT FIRST IS SCARY, BUT IT IS AMAZING HOW FAST THOSE PAGES GO BY. THE OLD SLOW PART IS THE END WHICH LEAVES THE READER HANGING. OVERALL IT DEFINATELY IS A HELL OF A BOOK AND I LOOK FORWARD TO A CONTINUATION OF THE VAMPIRE CHRONICLES WITH LESTAT.

Summary: Anne Rice Fan Visits Hell
Review: I love some of her writing. I couldn't get enough of some of her writing. Lestat de Lioncourt has to be the best character, and Azriel the earth-bound angel is sex on paper. But this, I found, grated on my nerves and ocular senses.

Fascinating as a theological debate. If you want to consider the view that God is not patient and all seeing, and doesn't care about his creations' afterlives; if you want to believe that the Devil is a Fallen Angel only because an impatient God doesn't give his suggestions the time of day; and if you have any interest in Lestat's idea of the Crucifixion, then this is a brilliant read.

If you want to see Lestat being a cool collected *reasonable* Vamp, and you think he was the best literary creation of the 1990s, then put this book down. [If you want sex on paper, and a theological read, go order Servant of the Bones. No complaints there at all!]

Summary: It was good...
Review: At first it's kinda dull, but after you get to the middle it gets good...

Summary: A very, very disappointing book.
Review: Memnoch ended my love affair with Ann Rice. The book is an egotistical, self-serving reinvention of Christian theology. I was truly appalled at the sheer effrontery involved in serving up this mind-numbing piece of crap. I have not bought an Ann Rice book since, and doubt I ever will again. Note: I have first editions of all previous works - I couldn't wait to get Memnoch out of my home. I gave it away to the first taker.
