Summary: Mixed feelings (WARNING: SPOILERS)
Review: My biggest gripe with this book is that there seems to be a great deal of character replacement: Nathaniel is becoming a strong, independent person finally, so they bring in Gil. Richard simply isn't working out, so we get Micah: the Diet Richard (great taste, less morals). Also, the intentional shock value was a little too high for my taste (a proverbial forest of naked, bleeding bodies hanging from the ceiling, for instance). It is good to have Anita back with the boys, though, and seeing the character development unfold was enough to keep me reading.

Summary: Stop with the kinky sex and emphasis on bodily fluids!
Review: I have read all of the books in the Anita Blake Vampir3e Hunter series. Each book had a new twist and a different type of enemy for Anita to face. However, I have noticed that with each book the sex gets kinkier and the emphasis on bodily fluids has become grosser and more prevalent to the point of disgust. While I have liked most of the books in the series, this one was over the top and I have not been able to finish it and dont know if I will. I have just found I no longer care about the characters or their over the top relationships. I hope that if Ms. Hamilton continues the series, she will revert back to the things that made the books special; the different monsters and the mystery of finding and destroying them. Enough already with the sex and messier aspects of the stories.

Summary: THRILLING, MAGNIFICENT, HUMOROUS
Review: I READ THIS BOOK IN ONE NIGHT, I COULDN'T PUT IT DOWN. WE NOW HAVE A FEW NEW CHARATORS ADDED IN TO THE SERIES. SHE STILL IS HAVING THE CONFLICT BETWEEN THE 2 MALES IN HER LIFE, AND THEN TO ADD MORE STRIFE A THIRD MALE APPEARS OUT OF NOWHERE.
ANITA IS GETTING MORE AND MORE SAVAGE LIKE AND EVEN THOUGH JEAN-CLAUD TRIES, HE CAN'T HELP HER OR STOP IT. SHE IS COMMING CLOSER AND CLOSER TO VERGE OF HUMANITY, TO FINILLY RELINQUISH TO THE BLOODLUST EVER GROWING INSIDE HER...

Summary: big disapointment-dont waste your money
Review: I wouldnt reccomend this drivel to anyone. Her characters are one demensional, boring, yet they are always exquisitely beautiful-please!!I was expecting much more and as you can tell was very let down.It was a long, boring read that went no place. The dialogue is often trite and stilted. At times the story is vague.I reccomend that Ms Hamilton work on making her characters a little more believeable, and a little less perfect. If you are going to throw in Bdsm and sex,to sell your books,at least make it erotic. It was a big Yawn.

Summary: Entertaining but a bit disappointing
Review: I do not want to see a moving van pull up next door and find that Anita Blake is going to be my new next-door neighbor. A fine and interesting person by herself, but I know that before long her house is going to have vampires sleeping in the basement and become a guest hostel for every lycanthrope in St. Louis. Plus it is guaranteed that there is going to be more shooting going on than I've ever seen before, and I work for a gun manufacturer.

That being said, Narcissus in Chains was a terrific book to read and held my attention throughout. It is difficult to try to make the world of Anita Blake seem plausible with all of the strange supernatural challenges she faces, but the author spins the tale in a delightful and intriguing manner.

The frustration with this book and with many of the Anita Blake series is that Anita has a lot of good friends, but she doesn't seem to appreciate them. She holds out on Dolph, the police sergeant who is investigating a huge shootout at her house despite the fact he's giving her tremendous breaks. Rafael, the powerful lycanthrope leader gives her his unqualified support in a shaky situation at considerable risk to himself and she doesn't say thank you. Sylvie, the feminine but secretly vicious lycanthrope also undertakes a lot of risk to herself to support Anita, and yet she fails to appreciate it. I want to reach into the book and shake Anita for being ungrateful.

There are also many subplots that are left unresolved which frustates the reader. Dolph asks Anita for help and we don't find out what happens or if she follows through. Richard, her former fiance who should be her husband if I had anything to say about it, relates a tragic tale of one of his subordinates who inadvertently kills her husband on her wedding night. But again, there the reader is left wondering what happens to her.

Despite all of the shortcomings, I still found this book to be entertaining. Readers should not let these shortfalls stop them from reading this book.

Summary: werewolf lovers beware
Review: Okay, so so they don't have to, but if your a Richard lover I'd stay away from this book. I loved this book it was so much better than the one before. Anita finally got back to being Anita. Which In my mind is not caring what other people think and just do what she believes is right. I thought this book was wonderful, and I can't wait for Laurell K. Hamilton's next Anita Blake Book!

Summary: I LOVE THIS BOOK
Review: This probably won't be a very helpful review, but I just have to say that I started the series a month ago, read all the books in about a week, and Narcissus in Chains was the best one yet. Her stories and ideas just keep getting better and better. I just wish I was capable of imagining such fantastic ideas myself. YAY ANITA!!!!! SHE ROCKS!

Summary: Belt up for an Emotional Rollercoaster Ride
Review: It looks like I am going to have to be the one to disagree. I loved Narcissus in Chains! I have been a Laurell K Hamilton fan from the very beginning, gobbling up everything that she has written. Why? Because she writes with such passion! She crosses borders, violates taboos and brings to life the darkest desires that are only whispered about in private. And in this setting, moral conflict, necessity, love, passion, and right vs. wrong take on a new character, unique to Laurell K Hamilton's characters.

In Narcissus in Chains, I see the continuation of Anita's growth, not a degeneration of her character! She started out as a tough chick, that was emotionally isolated, defensive, and alone. She has had to grow, grow-up, and grow open to those who she thinks of as "hers". Anita's barriers are coming down, and she is learning to recognize her capacity to love, to care, and to protect. The changes that take place in all of the various personalities are necessary! If they all stayed the same, where would the fun be in that?

It's actually rather amusing to see the discomfort that is being caused in Hamilton's readers. I guess we all need to grow some :)

Summary: Huge let down
Review: The Anita Blake series started going down hill when plot, character development, and decent stories were pushed aside for as much sex and contrived sexual situations as possible. The series were great when Anita was actually WORKING as an animator and solving crimes on the side. I don't think she has been to work in the last two books.

I say let Hamilton get all her erotica out in her new series (which is basically Anita Blake without the intial sex hangups) and get back to the basics with the Anita Blake series that we all know and love.
