Rating: Summary: Jaid Black goes mainstream Review: And rightfully so. I don't understand the gripes some fans are having. Do you honestly expect for Jaid Black, who is famous for her sci-fi/fantasy romantica erotica that deals with aliens, to put that in a noir thriller that is set on regular old Earth? It would be ludicrous for her to do so. Do you expect the male protagonist Thomas to be from another planet trying to claim Nikki as his life mate as told to me by the fates? Give me a break!
This is a story of a woman who is a highly successful surgeon who wants to be dominated sexually. Her borderline desperation to satisfy her cravings nearly gets her killed when she falls for "Richard" a dom she meets via the Internet. It is a basic plot of trying to find who the killer is while Nikki is falling for the detective assigned to protective her with his own secret past.
BTW, I think this is the best written book by Jaid Black. She has definitely improved on story, character development, dialogue and description. I'm sure she is thrilled to be published by a mainstream publisher, it will only lead to better things. As a writer, I totally understand this. This is also a profession that some of us make a living on.
Kudos to Ms. Black.
Rating: Summary: A powerful tale Review: Fifteen years a cop and a decade at homicide, Detective Thomas Cavanah still flinches when he smells murder. Perhaps his stomach churning may be linked to the death of his daughter Amy probably at the hands of serial killer Lucifer. Thomas is obsessed with bringing this devil to justice.Highly regarded surgeon Nikki Adenike is lonely as no man has ever fulfilled her deepest fantasy of submitting herself in sexual servitude to a dominant male. She surfs the net researching what many would proclaim as porn hoping to find someone and actually does. However, instead of meeting her Richard, Nikki encounters Lucifer. She fortunately escapes from the killer. Thomas realizes that Nikki is the bait to catch Lucifer who never lets a fish escape. However, Thomas also finds vengeance has quite an ironic cost as he begins to fall in love with the doctor who is the bait to hook Lucifer. This heated erotic romantic police procedural is a powerful tale that showcases the talent of author Jaid Black to combine a dark suspense plot with an exhilarating sexual romance. The story line is action packed whether the plot is in the boudoir or involves some perilous encounter with Lucifer. Still the key to what makes this tale above the typical erotica and serial killer themed novels is the growth of the lead couple who like the killer were ruled by obsession, but unlike Lucifer moved on with love. Rating: Summary: Admittingly this is no Empress...BUT Review: I admit this book isn't as sizzling and alpha satisfying as her previous books. BUT...it's good. The suspense is pretty good. She tosses in some twists that I didn't see coming at times.
Although, the heroine was disappointing at times. When a woman is almost killed by an attacker, one would think she would carry some sort of weapon/spray after such an event. Heck, install an alarm system in your apartment, anything!
Besides, that, it was decent. If you enjoy sizzling scenes, hot enough to roast a rooster than this isn't for you. But if your the type, who isn't read to fully dive into this time of genre. Then this book will warm you up to it.
So I give it a 4. Partly because of the twists and the other half is that I think it's a nice introduction for readers who are new to the genre. Like I said, the book is no Empress...
Rating: Summary: Great erotic thriller from Jaid Black (4 1/2 stars)! Review: I loved Jaid Black's The Possession and couldn't wait to pick up another one of her smoldering books. I haven't been able to get copies of the books she wrote for Ellora's Cave, so I settled for her first mass market release. One Dark Night kept me turning the pages from beginning to end. It's full of the erotic scenes that I adored in The Possession. And this novel has a compelling story and memorable characters to boot. Dr. Nikki Adenike wants to make her submissive fantasies come true. So she sets out to search for the perfect dominant male on a D/s personals web site. But little did she know that her online Mr. Right is "Lucifer," a sadistic serial killer with a penchant for powerful career women. She finds safety on the arms of Detective Thomas Cavanah, who awakens passions she's never allowed herself to envisage. There are some staggering twists throughout the novel. Ms. Black is still rather new at writing, so I agree with a previous reviewer's criticism regarding some loose ends in Black's writing -- Nikki's stupidity regarding her safety, various line repetitions, Thomas's strange possessiveness, etc. But said loose ends don't make the novel less appealing. I for one loved it. The erotic bondage scenes between Thomas and Nikki were hot, hot, HOT! And I thought the whole pistachio thing was very cute. I so look forward to reading more of Jaid Black's work, even if I have to read her stories on my computer screen.
Rating: Summary: Awesome!! Review: I loved this book! This was my first Jaid Black book and I will definitely buy her others. The story kept my interest & the sex was hot!! I whole heartedly recommend this book
Rating: Summary: A Great Suspense!!! Review: I must admit that romantic suspense is one of my favorite sub-genres. This was the first time I've ever read anything by Ms. Black but I found this to be a great suspensful and sexy read. I look forward to reading her again in the future. Dr. Nikki Adenike is a sucessful surgeon who has a sexy secret but one that she will not act out. Then one night she surfs the web and decides to act on her fantasy. This leads Nikki to begin a private e-mail relationship with Richard, a quite divorced teacher. "Richard" is everything this lonely doctor has been looking for. After repeated requests to meet face-to-face Nikki has her Richard checked out by a P.I. and finds that he seems to be safe. In reality she has set herself up for more then she bargains for. Someone is hunting strong, successful women in the Cleveland area and he brutally tortures them and then kills them by cutting out their hearts. The press has called him "Lucifer" and he is closer to the devil then anyone knows. What is worse he has is sights set on Nikki. Thomas is a tough as nails cop that has been hunting this killer for over nine years. The hunt is personal and he intends to see it to the end. The end of Lucifer that is. What he dosen't count on is his growing attraction to one of Lucifer's victims Dr. Nikki. She is the only one that has gotten away alive and he will move heaven and earth to make sure she stays that way. Even if he has to protect her himself. Together they come to grips with past experiences and their growing attraction while hunting for a killer. Who is Lucifer and will they catch him before he finally gets his hands on Nikki? This was a very fast-paced, and sexy read! You are kept guessing until the very final pages as to who Lucifer really is. The chemistry between Nikki and Thomas was HOT. Thomas is Yummy and a great hero for Nikki! This book also has a little supernatural storyline that is very important to the main storyline regarding Lucifer. I enjoyed the secondary characters a great deal and hope the Ms. Black pens a story for Kim, Nikki's best friend. I highly recommend Ms. Black's "One Dark Night" for edge of your seat reading that is not only romantic, but spicy!

Rating: Summary: Great Reading! Review: I really enjoyed this book. Great hero and heroine. This is the first time I've read Jaid Black and I will definitely buy her books again. I gave it 5 stars but I really felt it was 4.75. A couple of things bothered me, but that is purely my taste. (the story of the hero's daughter, the bad guy sewing the picture) I'm trying not to give anything away here. The pistachios were a nice touch. In fact, I went out after I read the book and bought a bag of pistachios. The one major love/sex scene was hot, hot, hot. That scene alone is worth the price of the book and keeping the book on your keeper shelf. This is a not-to-be-missed book!
Rating: Summary: Tell the truth!!! Review: If you buy and read Jaid Black for erotica, you will love this book. I bought if for Romantic Suspense. Which it is to a certain extent. But Get REAL!! This is an attempt to mainstream a type of erotic novel better left off the suspense shelf. The first few pages were GREAT!! I thought o'boy, this will be good. The premise is GREAT! I loved the thought of people who are lonely looking for love on the internet. It is real, it happens. BUT, looking for someone to dominate you or force your submission, is kinky. With all the abuse in the world, Who would be foolish enough to let someone you haven't ever seen do those kind of things to you. As a doctor, she has seen alot. Surely she has some kind of sense of self preservation. This is erotica. Good for eroticia, not good as romantic (what's romantic about bondage and submission?) suspense.
Rating: Summary: A Powerful New voice in Erotic Suspense Review: Jaid Black has burst into the suspense scene with this chilling new novel about a serial killer who preys on women off the internet. The heroine, Nikki is a highly skilled trauma surgeon. By day, she is in charge of human lives and she saves them without blinking an eye. But by night, she indulges in her secret fantasy of relinquishing all that pressure and power to a master who will dominate her emotionally as well as sexually yet cherish and love her at the same time. Unfortunately she meets the wrong guy on the internet and he turns out to be a serial killer in the most brutal way. Nickki escapes his first attempt at kidnapping her, but he is patient and continues to stalk her. She gets the help of Detective Thomas Cavanah, aka Detective "Grouch". He is big & brawny, rough & irritating, she is smart-mouth and tongue lashing.... and it was lust at first sight. I loved the relationship between Nikki and Thomas. Two people who are worlds apart in back ground yet brought together by circumstance and love. Their light banters with each other are so cute and their love scenes are so hot, it will make you squirm. Thomas is surly and grouchy on the outside but he is very possessive and protective of Nikki. In the end Thomas truly becomes the Master of her heart. This book made me chuckle, made me cry and made me *sigh*. But most of all it was one heck of a scary book. There are still some unanswered questions after the conclusion of this story. It's a great set up for the next sequal and I hope the author will continue with a story about the heroine's best friend, KIM. Read this book, I highly recommend it.
