Summary: S&M is not just my stuff
Review: I expected, based on my reading previous reviews, that the book would be steaming with sex. But I at least expected that there would be a sensible plot & some depth. I was disappointed to learn that there was nothing more but spanking, paddling & whipping. It was just too twisted to enjoy such a thing. Other readers mentioned that there was a great characterization & depth but I personally feel that that the characters were bare & void & they were just like their pornographic counterparts.

I have to admit that there were parts which turned me on - but the incessant paddling was a great turn-off!

Summary: Classy Kink
Review: If you enjoy reading or fantasizing about SM you will like this book. It contains some of the most lush erotic SM scenes I have ever read. Everybody is covered, men topping women, women topping men, men topping men and women topping women in lots of different ways. I wonder if the real sleeping beauty would have really liked to have woken up this way.

Other good SM fiction includes "Story of O" and the writings of deSade. But if your thinking about doing BDSM for real read SM 101 by Jay Wiseman, The Loving Dominant by John Warren, Screw The Roses Send Me The Thorns by Phillip Miller and Molly Devon, or The Sexually Dominant Woman by Lady Green.

Summary: A corruption of kid's version? Find a real reason to object
Review: First of all, I would like that in the original versions of Sleeping Beauty, she is NOT woken up with a kiss. She is woken up by the taking of her virginity. People who are complaining that we are corrupting a "children's fairy tale" have obviously never read any of the real Grimm's fairy tales, or any other source trying to show the real versions. The children's version of this fairy tale is the one that was corrupted. Anything sexual was taken out of it so it wouldn't corrupt children. Anne Rice's version of Sleeping Beauty was one of the first versions of Sleeping Beauty that I was exposed toother than Disney's (still one of my favorite movies, but it is not true to the story) or the ones in children's books of bedtime stories. I think she did a magnificent job of presenting a new version of the story. I read the entire trilogy with a group of friends...one person would buy it,then we would trade it around as people finished reading it, and we'd talk about the stories later. We all found it very entertaining and very well-written. I'd give it a million stars if I could (perhaps I should just take some of those that the one-stars refused to give it and add them to mine)

Summary: Sadism
Review: This is a twisted novel of sexual torture. I cannot believe anyone could enjoy reading it. I am even more bewildered that some one could even have these thoughts and not be institutionalized. I have enjoyed her other books and this was a real shock.

Summary: ýf you like boot and feet kissing go for it
Review: I've read all the books in the series. But this one is far from them in more D/S content. I especially liked the moments when Lady Juliana humiliated Beauty and it was amazing to see Beauty kissing her slippers fervently. Also parts with Queen and her slave Alexi were increadibly written. A masterpice of it genre.

Summary: Great Idea
Review: Rice really had a great vision, and after just a few pages I was hooked. However, the tale never really progressed and was rather repetitive. Perhaps, she should have written it as a short story.

Summary: DULL, DULL AND DULL!
Review: I had read previous reviews about this series and since I enjoyed the Vampire books that Ann Rice had written, I was looking forward to her new twist on an old fairytale. It was awful. What could have been an electrically charged retelling of a familiar story became a marathon of spankings after spankings. Save your money and forget this stupid series altogether.

Summary: Remember...
Review: BSDM is nothing new to me but some of the punishments raised my eyebrows in how... *interesting* to contemplate. Now, the rating. For pure erotica by an author I like, I'd give it 5 stars. Yet, I found that "The Claiming" wasn't as well-written as I expected. And it did read like AR simply proceeded to write, with each new chapter, whatever new torture/punishment she had in mind before somewhat trailing back to really move on with character insights & development. I maintain that AR simply is a better writer now than back in the times of "The Claiming", yet she does have to be applaused for churnin' out the much taboo-ed fantasy of BDSMers. Remember that the book was first published way in 1983, and I bet the people and society wasn't as liberal then. For daring to do so, for making her stand that BSDM could be a fantasy of almost anyone, and that it isn't a perverted sexism, 5 stars, my darling. Not-so-good writing - forgiven, you haven't written for that long. Damn, I think I went out-of-point. Not good with words, me.

Summary: Common dirty book with MUCH more imagination
Review: I've never beeon one to read erotica books, but I really like Anne Rice so I thought, "Why not?" I must say that even though the story line is a bit static and shallow, the things this woman comes up with, as far as punishments, are amazing. The book managed to hold my attention for 3 days. Because that's how long it took me to read it. It will definitely open up some areas of sexuality that you may never have even considered, and your wife/husband just may thank you.

Summary: Painful, yet delicious!
Review: At first I couldn't believe what I was reading! I'm not really the type that enjoys my pleasure with pain, so I found this book quite shocking. After I read on, though, I couldn't put the book down. I was constantly asking myself what would happen to Beauty next. I tried to put myself into her place and feel what she was feeling, and the book came alive. Anne Rice does a wonderful job at creating an imaginative secret story compared to the Disney version. I was engrossed with this book and, as surprising as it is, couldn't put this book down!
