Rating: Summary: The relationship of master and slave Review: Time and again I've been told that I needed to read the Sleeping Beauty trilogy by my friends, especially being such an Anne Rice fan. I said I'd get around to it, but being the poor college student I am - I never had the money to go buy the books. Finally, last year my friend leant me her copies of the series - and told me to read them. So the books sat around on my bookshelf for six months, while so many other things took precedence - shows, homework..and finally I said I needed a little time for myself - and opened the first book.I found myself spirited away into the whirl of this world (a plus for me, who usually puts a book down after the first chapter and never finishes it). In reviews I've read readers complaining about the lack of description of characters. However, I found this helpful - it became easy to realize Beauty's point of view. Instead of looking at the situation from an omnipotent view you see everything through her eyes (and I doubt she ever got to sit down with any of those people and shoot the breeze). I found myself turning each page in anticipation of the next new punishment. Each new punishment wasn't the same monotonous thing, instead it was more of a game - each was different in it's own way, each elliciting it's own form of pleasure. Different games with a similar touch. The common thread to teach complete obedience, and eventual love of the master - what is expected of a slave. I enjoyed this book thouroughly and intend to keep on reading until I finish the next two books, eagerly awaiting each new twist.
Rating: Summary: IMMENSELY EROTIC! LET YOU DARK DREAMS FREE!!! Review: This was the first of Rice's writings I read! My best friend reccommended it. Although it is a fantasy I SOOO identify with Beauty. Once I read the first I had to read them all. I want to read them over and over again. Great for the truly submissive or dominant! You have to read them all!! Cruelty, passion, desire; all in this. I have to try some of her other writings. Let your mind race in the images and graphic descriptions of torture, desire, even love. Amazing!!!
Rating: Summary: Very addictive! Review: This book was recommended to me and I have to say I thoroughly enjoyed it. I started it on Friday and finished it on Saturday. I just could not put it down! The public humiliation of Beauty and the hall of punishments I found to be very well written as I could just imagine the torment I would have felt if I were her. Very well done!
Rating: Summary: Boring ... boring ... bored Review: Starts off great -- neat twist on the "kiss" that wakes Sleeping Beauty. Then slides into a miserable rut of spanks and red, sore bottoms. One or two scenes might have been spicy and fun, but, really, how much can one's booty stand? Disappointing.
Rating: Summary: Different Review: I was shocked and angered by the treatment of the slaves. The Prince is just royalty 2 so shouldn't he ALSO be a slave??? I hated the queen, and think she was a sick individual. But still, I had to read on, because the book was so spellbinding. Plus, because I had spent a lot of money on it. I thought it was unfair, and degrading to the royals. I got used to the spanking after a while. The book was all in all sick and unusual. If I was there I think I would have murdered someone. Anyways, it's consoling 2 know it's not real. But still, there is something very compelling about the book, that makes you want 2 read the whole series.
Rating: Summary: My first erotica read... Review: The Claiming of Sleeping Beauty was the first erotica book I have ever read. I was not disappointed. I was already a fan of Ann Rice from her Vampire Chronicles and Mayfair Witches. But when I read Sleeping Beauty, I was entranced. It was a book I couldn't put down. Most women would feel embarrassed or ashamed to be caught reading an erotic book. But the way Ann Rice wrote this story, it was beautifully poetic. It was in no way pornographic in the sense of Playboy or Hustler. It was truly art. In my opinion, Sleeping Beauty could almost be compared to Michangelo's David.
Rating: Summary: Repetitive S & M Review: An intriging twist on a classic story. The book starts out great, very descriptive, but as it moves on, you just see the same thing happening over and over, after the first "spanking" you'll be shocked, by the end though you've read the same thing so many times, just described different that it just loses all meaning.
Rating: Summary: Daring and Entertaining Review: Anne Rice has written in The Claiming of Sleeping Beauty a bold and entertaining story. Although this book may not be for everyone, anyone with a liberal enough mind may enjoy it. As she usually does, Anne takes sex and makes it her own, ignoring taboos while presenting her vision. I never felt that she was shying away from anything. And the way she makes the reader feel Beauty's shame combined with excitement at every new punishment is exquisite. Anne Rice fans will like this book because Anne continues her bold and unapologetic fahion of presenting her story. All other readers may appreciate it for its treatment of a subject that most others won't ever talk about. Overall, it's a naughty, fun read which will enthrall many readers with open minds.
Rating: Summary: lovely Review: this is one twisted book. although S&M is not my thing and there was a whole lot of it (repetitive in the book) i still was hooked. it is true erotica of male & female, female & female, male & male. what beauty goes through is amazing and she finds herself struggling to adapt to sexual feelings (since essentially she was a virgin when she first went into slumber). this book is full of passion and discipline. some of the story wasnt so intriging, but it was a good short read.
Rating: Summary: Over the top fun Review: The beauty of Anne Rice's writing style is that she has zero shame. There never seems to be a moment in her novels where she thinks 'perhaps this is a bit over-the-top and maybe I should drop the scene or line' or whatever. While her writing style may not make her the next literary genius of our time it can make for fun reading. The absence of shame in an erotic novel in particular is a plus. In the Beauty Chronicles Rice revisits the Sleeping Beauty legend and openly claims the sexuality of the old fairy tale but also surpasses the sexuality. In the Sleeping Beauty series Rice takes Beauty through a sexual journey of domination, degradation and complete sexual abandonment. This series is not for the timid and needs to be read in the same way that one reads her Vampire Chronicles but is still a fun addition to any erotic library. If nothing else Rice with her Beauty series has helped to bring erotica further into the main stream of American homes.
