Rating: Summary: awful Review: What at first may seem titillating, quickly becomes repulsive after the first few pages. Beatings, public humiliation, sexual degradation, and eventual loss of individual spirit can best describe Anne Rice's "Sleeping Beauty" trilogy. The author has a talent for lush prose (thus the one star) but her Vampire books at least have substance. This book is not a turn on unless you are into losing your personal will, your individual spirit, and what makes you human.
Rating: Summary: Great first part of the trilogy! Review: I hadn't expected to enjoy this novel as much as I had -- after all, Anne Rice is notoriously known for her trashy romance novels. However, I was told that the Sleeping Beauty trilogy is one of the most haunting and tantalizing erotic trilogies out there. And it is! Anne Rice's retelling of the classic fairy tale is a disarming one of domination and submission. Beauty is forced to show the Prince her gratitude for having woken her from a century's sleep by surrendering to his sexual desires. Adapting to his enslavement proves difficult for Beauty. Will she be able to be tamed? The implications brought on in this novel are provocative and compelling. I look forward to reading the other two parts of what appears to be a memorable erotic trilogy.
Rating: Summary: This Trilogy is the most interesting I've ever read Review: I've read this trilogy 3 times now and each time I read it, I pick up on things I never noticed before. It is written very detailed so that when the characters are humiliated, I will blush because I understand their feelings. This book is very sexual including both heterosexual and homosexual situations with both males and females - but it's not written in a typical pornographic way.(Not like the stories you read on Playboy or Penthouse). It's almost sweet. I recommend this book to anyone who is opened minded about sex - but you might want to have your spouse or partner close by...just a recommendation.
Rating: Summary: Hmm... Review: I'm not a big reader in the genre, so I'm probably not an overly qualified reviewer, but I'm going to give you my opinion anyway, if I can only figure it out for myself. THE CLAIMING OF SLEEPING BEAUTY is based on a very original idea, but it could have been better executed. I'm not sure what I would have preferred instead, but the relentless spanking gets a little old after, say, the first two chapters. The plot is not, as other reviewers have stated, completely non-existent, but it's paper-thin. There are signs that some development may occur in the two subsequent novels, but I haven't decided yet if they're worth my time to seek out and read. I hear Anne Rice often spends the first novels of her trilogy on background and doesn't get into the plot until the second book...but I can't say for sure, as I've never before read Anne Rice. In any case, this one's an entertaining read, if absolutely nothing else, and even if S&M isn't your thing, it might even be a turn-on. Or not.
Rating: Summary: pain is beauty..... Review: i was really satisfied with the story. it was quit interesting and most detailed. ive read most of the vampire chronicles and i have to say, this by far is one of my favorite Anne Rice books. Beauty submitting to the prince and everyone who he command her to obey was truly elegant. to give in to domination and submission is really meaningful. this book was a erotic masterpiece and im really looking forward to beauty's time in the town.
Rating: Summary: It could have been better Review: I bought this book hoping that I would enjoy it. For the most part it wasn't bad, but I wish I had not paid the full price. It was an OK read once I moved past the spanking scenes, which seemed to dominated the storyline. I have no intention of reading the rest of the series.
Rating: Summary: Not Erotic Review: Perhaps I'm jaded, but it takes a little more than repetitive acts of S & M to get me off. Also, Anne Rice needs to understand a little about the subject on which she writes. For one thing, it is generally the powerful that enjoy being dominated, not the weak, so Beauty's enjoyment of pain is a mistake. The powerful prince should be the one to enjoy torture. If you're reading this review in contemplation of purchasing the book, let me sum the plot up for you. Prince Charming takes Beauty to his S & M castle. That's it.
Rating: Summary: Not A Typical Bed Time Story Review: Well, I definitely would NOT read this to my son before bed.. but I might read it to my husband!! An interesting twist on an old idea, but some parts became a bit repetitive for my tastes.
Rating: Summary: For Whom Was This Book Written? Review: I'm start out by saying whom I think should NOT READ THIS BOOK: -victims of violent sex -those who oppose same gender sex, whether male or female -those who oppose slavery You get the picture. Now on the other hand if you dream of being someone's little sex slave, boytoy, etc. then this book is for you. The story is quite interesting and elegant. I enjoyed Rice's exploration of the psychology of domination and submission. Great read for those who dream of serving sans the clothing.
Rating: Summary: Absolute Best Review: I started reading Anne Rice when I was ten and have always enjoyed her books starting from Interview with the Vampire. Now that I am older and have read her telling of Sleeping Beauty. I was very much astonished and extrememly satisfied by everything in the story. In order to read Anne you must be extremely open minded. So I give this book the highest rating you could ever imagine. This is truly an erotic masterpiece. Turning a childs story into something so wonderful and adult, even I couldn't help but applause Anne on such a job well done!
