Summary: it's garbage
Review: I usually like Anne Rice's stuff, but you have to some kind of loser to think this was anything other than a medium for her to vent her obvious sexual frustration. Total crap, just mind-numbing s&m with no plot, character development, etc. I have no problem with erotica, but I guess you have to be really into being abused to get turned on by this at all. If you're not in to that, don't read this book for any other reason cause there's nothing else there.

Summary: Disgusting and Relentlessly Cumbersome
Review: This was one of the most repetitive, sickning, and most boring book I've read so far. I can't believe an author would even attempt to destroy a childeren's fairytale with this nonsence. Having been forced to read this junk for a class, I was totally shocked at Anne Rice's degrading and horribly narrated smut. I wouldn't recommend this rubbish to anyone.

Summary: Too repititious
Review: I found Anne Rice too paddle-happy. I enjoy a good paddle spanking story as well as the next one. However, on every page? That was just a little too much. I was very disappointed in this book. I felt as if I was just reading the same thing over and over again - nothing new.

Summary: Cut the bull and call it what it is
Review: This review applies to the enitre series. A friend told me about them and I had to see it for myself. What really kills me is that people insist on calling this "erotica." All Anne Rice has done is taken hard core S&M pornography and dressed it up in frilly Victorian themes. Wander into the adult section of your local video store, pick up any low budget flick made in a dingy motel room and substitute "Buck Naked" and "Summer Rain" with "Prince Tristan" and "Lady Juliana" and you're all set. If you think that pointless mental, physical and sexual torture is a turn-on, I suppose you'll enjoy it. But, if you think the rationalization and intellectualization that these books are "erotica" is a thinly veiled attempt at denial, then you'll probably file this with the paperback versions of "Ridin' Miss Daisy" and "Rambone."

Summary: Plotless, passionless, tedious spanking
Review:

Now I like kinky erotica as much as the next pervert, and for much of this first book, I was into it. But one book was more than enough. Perhaps if you have a major spanking fetish the endless ass-wacking will be enough to carry you through the "Beauty" trilogy. But I found myself getting quite bored and never actually finished all three.

Another factor that I'm a little suprised to have been bothered by is the total lack of passion between the characters. This coupled with the lack of plot and character development turns these books into scene after scene of mind numbing redundant torture. Surely a society focused so strongly on S&M like the one in these books would come up with more than a handful of kinks! And there is no feeling of the suspense that should accompany this type perversion, just the dread of turning another page of more of the same.

For an actually interesting novel about S&M perversity (and also a murder mystery) check out "Topping from Below." Or for the truely sick, "American Psycho".

Summary: Keeps you on the edge
Review: Rice does a great job in this whole series of keeping you on the erotic edge. You become Beauty or the others and hope and wish for that release that never seems to come! Always coming so close then stopping! It was a breathtaking book that made you want to become a member of the kingdom. Rice makes heavy S/M seem wonderful and beguiling with her "exquisite tortures." Will make you look twice at yourself and your own desires..

Summary: A Glorious Read
Review: This is the most beautifully written, stirring, engrossing erotica I ever have read. And that really surprised me, for even though I am an avid Anne Rice fan, I knew that the series was not just about sex, but about bondage and submission. I was still panting. And even more than panting, I was truly moved. This series is NOT for the young, it contains sex, "kinky" sex, homosexual sex, and leaves you with rather disturbing imagry of a favorite childhood fairy tale. The entire series is wonderful, and should be read by all of us adults of open mind and strong libido. Taking turns reading from them out loud by candlelight with your signifigant other is a treat not to be missed. Trust me

Summary: Try it!
Review: I think 95% of the readers of this book read it because they heard something like "What?? Anne Rice has written a porn?" Yes she has and - she succeeded! This book is well written (yes, also the "action"-scenes) and shows that she really has the talent to write such a book, too. A warning: People who don't like S/M too much will maybe be put off by this book, but if you like it or it doesn't bother you - go ahead and read it!

Summary: Open your mind & explore your soul!
Review: A "virgin" to erotica, I picked up this book and discovered the deepest secret of myself. My subconscious rushed forward and broke thru, freeing my inner self to absorb and understand that devotion, loyalty and love can have deliciously diverse paths than what is perceived as normal in society. Broaden your morals and educate your soul!

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Cant put it down!
Review: Anne Rice should be very proud of this book! It sucked me in.......I stayed up all night just to finish it. I am definantly going to be reading the rest of the series! Way to go Anne! Jennifer Knigh
