Rating: Summary: Mixed Feelings Review: Curiosity led me to this book. I love Anne Rice's works and I am always looking for new ways to fuel my sexuality, but I was always skittish about bdsm and I thought that if anyone could make me understand it, Anne Rice could. It left me slightly disturbed, confused, aroused, and ammused. I'm not sure wether I should like it or hate it. The book has a deffinete message but it lacks a good plot, and the extremities of the punishments were sometimes so hardcore they were almost laughable. Still it speaks to a very primative part of human sexuality in an enticing manner.
Rating: Summary: Only for the extreme Review: I found this book to be an extreme that I had never seen in Anne Rice before. She puts no limits to the imagination and sexual fantasies. By any other author, I would believe this book to be trashy and pornagraphic, but Anne Rice pulls it together with a fantastic, erotic, twisting plot. I recommend it to the wild at heart.
Rating: Summary: Tour de Force in erotic, bdsm literature! Review: Bravo, Anne! Once again, I am in awe of the sheer brilliance in your writings! I started reading this book out of curiosity, and I could not put it down. I devoured it in one sitting and then went out to the bookstore and bought the other two books in this masterful trilogy. This book is both blatantly and subtly erotic, and is definitely not for the "vanilla" reader. The trilogy is one of the things I love about Anne Rice - she is not afraid to delve into a deeper, less "conformist" sense of eroticism. She does not hold back so as to not offend. I think it would be *very* interesting to see her incorporate vampires into a separate erotic, bdsm series... Vive Anne Rice!
Rating: Summary: Not what I was looking for... Review: I'm a fan of some of Anne Rice's books, but she seems to vary wildly in quality and tone, so I'm never sure whether I'll love or hate the next book. I was curious about this trilogy because I thought it would be neat if pornography were written by someone with real talent. My complaint isn't that the sex offended me (obviously you'll want to avoid these books if you're offended by "mature themes"), but the problem is that they just aren't well written. There's a starting point and an ending point, but it appears that each chapter in between is merely an exercise in whatever sort of sexual escapade she felt like writing that day. So it's just a collection of sloppy writing and disjoint incidents, and (I'm not a connoisseur of pornography, so maybe this isn't fair) it's probably no special addition to the porn genre.
Rating: Summary: Couldn't put the book down Review: I loved all three of the books in this small series and wish she'd write more like this, her incredible passion is what keeps me coming back for more, even if I'm not really into Doing what she is writing about, I'd certainly love to read more erotica books by her, just loved it! :) Sherry
Rating: Summary: Quite BEAUTY-ful Review: Beauty is such a good character for this story. I am glad Rice didn't get too deep into her psyche, b/c all we want to see is her being humbled, right? I love the part when the peasant girl has to spank Beauty, and then Beauty must kiss her foot. The Crown Prince comes up with some pretty good punishments: like keeping Beauty on her hands and knees at all times, not to mention having her run on the Bridle Path, as Lady Juliana whips her.
Rating: Summary: Delivers! Review: This was a good book for its purpose: erotica. Who needs deep characters and storylines, when the main themes are about slaves being spanked, stripped, and humiliated? I loved the bridle path stuff, when Beauty is oiled and groomed like a horse and then has to run while she is spanked!
Rating: Summary: A wonderful page turner. Review: I absolutely loved this book. It was nothing like i thought it would be. I have never experienced a book so involved before. Every page was a eye opener. Never a dull moment. I could almost see every charactor come to life with the turn of a page. Very imaginative. I can't wait to read the next one. Great job.
Rating: Summary: Somewhat disappointing Review: I am an Anne Rice fan and I enjoy erotic literature and ideas, but I was disappointed with this book. Although there were some genuinely erotic moments, it seemed that the vast majority of the book was devoted to degradation and humiliation. The story showed no restraint (pun intended), but rather seemed to wallow unrelentingly in extremely masochistic themes. For those who do not find pain, torture and rape erotic, there is little to enjoy.
Rating: Summary: THE BEST BOOK I'VE READ IN A LONG TIME!!!!!!!!! Review: As a person how never reads a book to the end. I must say this is a book i couldn't put down. A friend of mine let me borrow her book and i was done with it in a week. i can't wait to read the other two. it's two years since i read the book and i still haven't been able to forget the wonderful imagination of the story. i highly think of this book as one of the best books i've ever read.
