Rating: Summary: Nothing like the first Review: I was so looking forward to reading this book once I read the first in the series.. but this is terrible.. it takes forever to get through. The first book was good because of the suspense.. but this one doesn't have any. The main character is a brat. The book lacks character development. You just don't get to care about these people. But if you are into the witch aspect.. and you like to read about witch rituals.. this is the book for you. It goes into a lot of detail on that part of it.
Rating: Summary: A page-turner, but not as good as the first novel! Review: What can I say? Nora Roberts is the "Martha Stewart" of Romance Novels... And typically I love everything she writes... (Do you sense a 'but' coming?') If so, read on... The latest installment of the 'three sisters' trilogy features the life of Deputy Ripley Todd. Deputy Todd, a skeptic, with a traumatic magic-related childhood experience, has refused to use her powers ever since. Enter the hero... Mac Booke. Mac is an 'absent-minded professor type' whose investigations into the paranormal has somehow landed him on Three Sister's Island. As usual, Nora has the setting, the characters, and the culture of a small town down pat. Her main and side characters are endearing and engaging.. Particularly, her hero, Mac Booke. But... In my opinion, her heroine, Ripley, just didn't seem to 'fit in' to a novel with a paranormal setting. Ripley (okay, I kept thinking 'believe it or not') seems like she would be more at home in a novel with a small-town murder-mystery theme... Than as the third sister in a coven of witches. While I suspect Nora, wanted us to feel sympathetic towards Rip for her reluctance to practice magick, instead I was frustrated by her pig-headedness. I found it hard to believe that someone like Mia wouldn't have given her a 'kick in the pants' or confronting her about her problem /ages/ ago. My second problem with this novel was the villain. Bringing back the possessed ex-boyfriend from the first book was an unwelcome surprise. With so many challenges the girls might face, do we need to bring a possessed mental patient into the picture? This seemed heavy handed, even for Nora, who is quite notable for creating, exciting and believable villains. Overall, the inclusion of Mac, and the return to 'three sisters island' made this book worth reading... But I had to deduct one star for the 'evil-ex-husband ™' and for the 'Ripley' character which I just could noth sympathize with.
Rating: Summary: TRIES TOO HARD Review: I LOVED THE FIRST OF THE TRILOGY. LIKEABLE CHARACTERS, GREAT PLOT, WELL WRITTEN. RIPLEY IS THOROUGHLY UNLIKEABLE, OBNOXIOUS AND I FIND IT HARD TO CARE ANYTHING ABOUT HER. I AM SINCERELY HOPING THE THIRD BOOK STAYS MORE IN LINE WITH THE FIRST AND AM EAGERLY WAITING FOR IT TO ARRIVE.....
Rating: Summary: Nora's back!! Review: Nora Roberts has always been my favorite romance author. I have often said that she could write literature but has chosen to show the fiction market what a romance novel can and should be. Lately, her publishers seem content to feed her audience republished stories from Nora's early days. But the romance market has grown since the original publication of these stories (largely thanks to Ms. Roberts herself) and these stories seem old fashioned, even boring, now. But this new trilogy catapults her right back on top of the heap. She makes the romance real by focusing on the setting, on the characters, on the plot and the romance weaves its way from that. How can anyone not warmed by the romance, entranced by the Magic (literal Magic) or be chilled by the evil she writes of? Buy! Read! Enjoy!
Rating: Summary: Quickly paced wit, love, and a litte magic Review: Ripley Todd is the focus of this, the second in the Three Sisters Trilogy, and as expected, grudgingly so. But she may have met her match this time in the geek doctor of "crapola" as she called Dr. Mac Booke upon their first meeting, or is it? Time shapes their lives and deepens their feelings for each other, but will it be enough to save the island from the supposed 300 year old curse? A definate must read! I couldn't put it down!
Rating: Summary: Puhleeze Review: The first book in the trilogy was fine, other than it's remarkable similarity to the Julia Roberts movie "sleeping with the enemy", it was an enjoyable read. This book was just stupid. The plot just kind of meandered on until the completely unbelievable, and almost science fiction climax. And who exactly was the villain in this book? Roberts couldn't seem to make up her mind. Was it the crazy x-husband? Looked like it until you realize he was possessed by something. Was it the fame hungry reporter? Again, kinda looked like it, woops he's possesed too. But by what or who? That answer was really never given. Angry that I even wasted my time with such a stupid read. Nora Roberts, you have just lost a fan.
Rating: Summary: For Nora Roberts, a let-down Review: After reading the first book in this series, I was really looking forward to reading this book. I was sorely disappointed. Normally, I breeze through Roberts books in one to two days - this one took me a week and a half. I just couldn't get into it and that made the pages crawl by. Plus, knowing that the sisters have to ultimately succeed in overcoming their hurtles, it left little to the imagination. You know that basically what the challenge they have to overcome is. Not sure that I'll finish the series as this one wasn't worth what it cost. If you choose to pick this book up, be prepared for a long read.
Rating: Summary: The best book yet! Review: Nora Roberts is my favorite writer. She makes the impossible possible and fantasy a reality. In the second book of her Three Sisters trilogy, NR captivates the reader with her main characters, Mac and Ripley. The story is very entertaining and filled with humor and wit that make her characters come to life. Ripley is a tough deputy cop who has to come to learn to accept who she is while trusting herself and those she loves. MacAllister Booke is a geeky genius who is there to convince her of her strength while giving the story a new twist as to his identity. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The writing is superb and the storyline makes the trilogy more enjoyable.
Rating: Summary: Bewitching Review: I absolutely love Nora Roberts. She has a way of combining "real" with the "maybe" real. She makes you get lost in her books. I have read the first two trilogy's and I am desperately trying to find the third - Face The Fire, which is about Mia.
Rating: Summary: Three Sisters rock !! Review: I very much enjoyed the first book, so i thought the second would be even better and I was releived that it was. I love Ripley character, so bold and strong. Can't wait for the ending of te trilogy !!
