Rating: Summary: The saga continues... Review: Well, I definately was glad to get started on Ripley's story. Nell was sweet and wonderful, but I just had to know what it was inside Ripley that made her so hard and had turned her against using her powers. Wonderful job, Nora.Ripley is definately a woman I'd like to be more like in the athletic and confidence departments! And of course, it wouldn't be a Nora Roberts novel if she hadn't met up with someone handsome and charming who had to rise to the challenge of cracking Ripley's hard outer shell. I liked the fact that she made it tough for Zack to get through to her, and you saw Ripley's inner struggle there. Nicely done. :)
Rating: Summary: Back to Three Sister Island Review: After reading Dance Upon The Air I was looking forward to returning to Three Sister Island and see what was going on with Mia, Nell, Ripley, Zack and the rest of the locals there. From the start of this book I had my doubts, it didn't jump out to me like Dance Upon The Air did. I think it mainly to do with the fact that I really couldn't stand Ripley. I felt most of the time Ripley was just putting up this shield around her life to protect from everything and when things got to unstable for her she up it up tighter and resisted many things. I did like Mac and how he dealt with Ripley, I felt that he cared about Ripley more thens she ever realized and ever will. He brought out some of the good strengths in Ripley. I also liked how he protected her things. There were times I felt like smacking Ripley around and telling her here is a guy who would do anything for you and you just want to push him away further and further. Overall I enjoyed how the story moved, there were times I felt it was a bit drawn out. But it still kept me reading and wanting to read the next book. Nora Roberts is an excellent writer and I look forward to reading Face The Fire and some of her other work.
Rating: Summary: A little confusing Review: Although I like the story and think it has great potential, the writing is a little hard to follow. I never read the first book but never have had problems before like I did with this one. There would be pages and pages I would read and have no idea what was going on. I also got lost in all the descriptive language used much too often. I like this book, and think the characters are interesting, but it's not suspenseful. I guess if you read this one you should try the first one in the series first.
Rating: Summary: Great series! Review: Nora Roberts has the perfect mix of friendship, love, humour, sex, and magic in this series. Love all the "sisters" and they are all totally different. The entire series is wonderful.
Rating: Summary: Entertaining ... but not as compelling as the first book Review: After loving the first book about the good witches of Three Sisters Island I fully expected to have my socks knocked off with Ripley's story. She is a strong woman who has valid reasons for fearing her magical gifts. She has a very modern, 21st century outlook on her job, men and life in general. Her in-your-face, don't suffer fools attitude is fun to read and makes her one of the most forceful members of the community on Three Sisters. When a scientist arrives on the island to investigate and document the 300 year old legend, Ripley just knows that it is likely to end in disaster for her, the people she loves and even for the island that she serves as deputy sheriff. The fact that she feels a personal attraction to the hunky MacAllister Booke complicates matters further. But this event could very well serve as a pivotal point in Ripley's life. Nell, Mia and Mack all make strong allies in fighting the evil presence that is moving in to destroy the island but this is Ripley's story and she fights through her fears to do what is necessary to save all that she holds dear. My problem with reading serial books is that if I LOVE the first book, then I build up expectations that the following stories will be even better. 'Heaven and Earth' wasn't better. It's a good, fast-paced, thoroughly likable book. It creeps a bit closer to the romance novel genre than 'Dance upon the Air', but I'm always a sucker for a well written love story so I can't quibble on that point. If you are searching for a book with a strong female hero, good witches, Magic, a handsome scientist and a snow covered island in the Atlantic, then by all means read 'Heaven and Earth'. You will have an enjoyable weekend read. I give it three stars because it's not MORE than that!
Rating: Summary: Better Than the first Review: This book continues the saga of Three Sister,s Island begun in Dance on Air. This time it's Ripley's turn to face her fears. While Ripley seems to be outwardly tough, in reality she is quite vulnerable. She seems to possess great empathy for her "sisters" and would do anything to protect the people that she loves. But, she possesses a firey temperament and fears that if she uses her powers, she will not be able to control them thus causing great harm to those she cares about. For this reason, Ripley has vowed never to use her powers. This is the basis of the rift in her friendship with Mia. Overall this is a great story about self-acceptance and forgiveness. The characters of Ripley and Mia are more well developed and very dynamic. However, I felt that the character of Mac was a quite over the top (a filthy rich Witch Hunter, give me a break!). Also the dialog often seemed very contrived which detracted greatly from the story.
Rating: Summary: Three Sisters Island Trilogy Review: I read the entire trilogy. I love Nora Roberts and her writing is exceptional. These books are no exception. Her gifted storytelling carries through each and every book. My only compaint - the concept is just a little too far-fetched. I mean, really, WITCHES! And, all the people around them who experience their "power" behave as though it is the most normal thing in the world. I can't imagine behaving normally if a black wolf charged out of a bog and then vanished into thin air. I also would have liked a little more sexual suspense and less thinking. All in all though, a good read. And, I will keep reading Ms. Roberts because of her extraordinary talent.
Rating: Summary: A Heavenly Read! Review: Ripley Todd is a kick-butt sheriff, who wants nothing to do with magic. But no one can escape their fate. And maybe MacAllister Booke is part of that fate. Try as she might, she can't seem to shake the slightly nerdy, very hunky researcher. Mac is on Three Sisters Island for research and for a glimpse at his heritage. What he finds is Ripley, a woman who is a fascinating study in and of herself. More captivating than anything he's ever come across before. As a matter of fact, Mac could probably spend a lifetime with her and not know everything. And spending a lifetime with her is exactly what he plans to do...if the fates will allow. Robert's second in the Three Sisters Trilogy was a spellbinding, page-turning read!
Rating: Summary: Ripley's Story Review: This book was good and a great addition to this trilogy. Ripley has turned her back on her heritage and is an angry person. Her brother Zach is the sheriff of the small island of the Sisters and she is his deputy. Ripley is paired with an unlikely hero who's name is Macallister Booke. Mac is a hunter of the supernatural and has more electronic equipment then most toy stores have toys. At times completly focused on his studies Mac still finds himself drawn to Ripley and her prickly personality, sexy good looks, and of course her tie to the craft. Ripley faces her part of the destiny of the curse in this story and some more answers are given to questions raised in the first book. Nell and Zach as well as other island inhabitants met in the first story will been seen here. You will not want to miss this story.
Rating: Summary: Even better than the first! Review: Heaven and Earth, the second installment in the Three Sisters Island Trilogy by Nora Roberst is even better than the first book. Again, Wicca is a large part of this novel and will give witches a good name! The supernatural scenes are well written and as believable as you can get. Ripley Todd is forced to face her gift of witchcraft and to face her destiny as well. Her struggle with both makes for interesting reading indeed. Mia and Nell return and we find out much more about the reasons for Mia and Ripley's feud. Mac, Ripley's love interest in this novel, is a wonderfully quirkly character, and one you'll want to push her toward as you read this novel. As with the first installment, the romantic scenes are a little heavy-handed and do put the women in a somewhat subservient role, which is hard to believe of Ripley by the very nature of her character. Still, it's fun to watch her let herself be weak and trusting. Overall, a great read that will leave you waiting for the final installment.
