Summary: not her best
Review: I am a huge Nora Roberts fan but this book did nothing for me. What was it really about? What was so interesting about Ripley or Mac? She is putting out so many books that they are all becoming the same. Well that's just my opinion. I look forward to her next book.

Summary: More than I Expected
Review: I'm one of those readers who was a little disappointed by the first book, Dance Upon the Air, in this trilogy. You have noticed it didn't keep me from buying the second installment of the series and I'm so glad I did. Heaven and Earth is a great story with romance, suspense, and the supernatural. The story flows as we are pulled into Ripley's story, catch up on Nell, and are given hints on Mia's past and things to come.

Ripley Todd is the deputy on Three Sister Island where her brother Zack is the sheriff. She doesn't embrace her heritage of witchcraft like Nell, her brother's wife, or Mia, her childhood friend. In fact, Ripley goes to extreme lengths to pretend it doesn't exist. Now she's feeling like something of a third wheel. Zack and Nell survived a near death attack by Nell's former husband and have married. While Ripley is close to both, she doesn't feel she needs to be living in the same house with the newlyweds. There aren't many places to rent on the small island. Against her better judgement, Ripley goes to Mia to see about renting a small cottage she owns. To her shock, Mia has rented the cottage out to Dr. MacAllister Brooke, a paranormal researcher.

While Nell and Mia have consented to helping Dr. "Mac" Brooke with his research, Ripley wants nothing to do with him. However, we don't always get what we want out of life and Ripley finds the one person who can reach her soul. The story revolves around Ripley coming to terms with herself and how evil can strike when we least expect it.

I really like the way Nora Roberts developed the characters in this story. Ripley is a strong woman who is not afraid to confront any physical danger that she can see and touch. She will do anything to protect those that she loves. However, Ripley's weak point is not being able to accept what she is and having to confront the fact she can be emotionally dependent on another and still be strong.

Mac is one of my all time favorite Roberts' heroes. First off, he's a geek pure and simple. He can't remember where he puts things and is always losing something, goes into a daze and forgets time when he is researching, and can't remember where simple places are like the local pizza place. Don't get me wrong, he's all man and the perfect hero. He's gorgeous and falls head over heels for Ripley. Nothing she does will make him back off. He knows what he has found with Ripley and fights to keep it.

Nora Roberts has a winner with Heaven and Earth. It has all the elements of a hit and will keep you glued to the story. A short glimpse is given to Mia's story out next called Face the Fire the last book in this trilogy. Just like the rest of you "Noraholics" in the world, I'll be eagerly be waiting for the next one.

Summary: Another Winner
Review: This book does not stand alone as well as many others that are in trilogies. Before reading this one, I'd suggest you buy the first one in this series. The series is about three strong women who must each conquer a weakness and take control of their life.

This book is about Ripley, sherrif on a small island, who has supernatural powers and MacAllister Brooke, a man who research the otherworldly.

Ripley has denied who she is to herself and those around her for many years. She has lost at least one friend by doing so. When Brooke comes to the island to learn more about the mysterious events he has heard about, they meet. These two strong minded individuals fall in love. Through falling in love, Ripley learns to accept herself and learns to control her power.

A very powerful book.

Tied into this story about these two lovers is the past history of the island and the legacy the girls' previous relatives left.

Nora does a masterful job, as always, of tying all the subplots and stories into one strong story. The characters from the previous novel grow and continue in this novel. I look forward to reading the last one of this series to see how each character grows and develops. The settings is wonderful. You can truly picture the island, the yellow cottage and the bookstore.

This book, once again, confirms why Nora Roberts is a favorite of mine.

Summary: The Magic of Words
Review: Nora Roberts spins her own spell with the second of the Three Sisters Triology!

As I am a college student and also have a full time job I am short on time and thusly very particular about my choices for recreational reading - this novel is worth every minute. The storyline grows more complicated than the first in the series yet remains a quick and delightful read. Ms.Roberts manages to bring the characters alive with such clarity that one might wonder if there isn't a little magic in us all. She has mastered the art of relating reader to character and exemplified her ability to do so in this novel!

This book's release was timed perfectly; it is made for a cold snowy night spent inside curled up in a comfy chair with a hot drink and a softly glowing fire! I can't wait for the last of the series, I'm certain I won't be disappointed!

Summary: How does she keep her quality so high?
Review: Nora Roberts has done it again. Another great story. I don't know how she can write as many books as she does and still keep her quality as high as she does.

As I read this one, I couldn't help thinking that she has been reading the Anita Blake books. Read it and see if you don't agree with me. ;)

Summary: Superb! Absolutely Captivating!
Review: "Heaven and Earth" is the second book in Nora Roberts' Three Sisters Island trilogy and it is utterly enchanting. NR's writing has reached new levels of excellence in this provocative romance. This book held me from the minute I picked it up, and I couldn't put it down until it was done.

Ripley Todd is happy with her quiet life on Three Sisters working as a sheriff's deputy. She enjoys life without complications, which is made difficult for her by the fact that she has incredible powers that confuse and frighten her. She has become great friends with Nell, who has just married her brother, Zack, and remains at odds with Mia Devlin, her childhood friend and the island's known witch.

When MacAllister Booke arrives on Three Sisters to research the stories of witchcraft, Ripley originally scoffs at him and his work. But Ripley's tough exterior doesn't prevent Mac from falling head over heels for her. Nor can Ripley deny that she feels something powerful for this handsome researcher. In addition to their intense attraction, Mac senses and soon confirms that Ripley is no ordinary woman. He is fascinated by her struggle to deny the power that she holds inside her and embarks on a journey to help her accept who she is.

When Mac and Ripley are together the scenes really sizzle. There are a number of highly sexy scenes that these two share, but their romance is also quite touching. As these two fall in love, the walls Ripley has built up around herself begin to fall down. But love isn't all Ripley's future holds. Something evil is coming their way, something that will be the ultimate test of Ripley's will and her powers. In order to fight this centuries old evil that threatens their island, Ripley must embrace her power and come together with Mia and Nell before it's too late!

This is one of the best books I have ever read. The characters are all complex and well-developed and the story is gripping. Mac is strong yet sensitive and he is a hero all readers will love. Ripley's road to self-discovery is fascinating and moving, and despite her flaws, readers will become very attached to this feisty heroine. This book will grab you right from the start and transport you to the haunting shores of New England where Nell, Ripley and Mia face their destinies. "Heaven and Earth" is a prime example of romance writing at its best. This book is NOT to be missed!

Summary: She's Back!!!
Review: This was sooooo good. I feel I have to emphasize this because I've been reading Nora since she first started writing, and I had begun to fear that she had lost it. In the last decade or so, her stories just haven't been as heart-wrenching or enthralling as they used to be. Also, I was frankly reticent because I have never read one of Nora's trilogies where all the books were up to par. I know that nowadays writers are somewhat forced to create series, what with the publishers' new trend toward three-book deals, but in my experience there is always as least one dud in the lot. But this...It's so good.

NOTE: It should also be mentioned that if you find witchcraft offensive to your personal beliefs, DO NOT READ THIS BOOK. Don't say I didn't warn you.

If you haven't read Dance upon the Air, the basic premise to the trilogy is this: centuries ago, three witches created a new island off the coast of New England, where they hoped to live in peace. Unfortunately, each one was destroyed by a love gone wrong. It is now up to each of their descendants to once again face the test, and conquer it. If any one of them fails, legend has it the island will be swallowed by the sea.

MacAllister Booke is working on his Ph.D. thesis, researching the rumors of paranormal events on Three Sisters Island. Almost from the getgo, Mac realizes that sheriff's deputy Ripley Todd can contribute quite a bit to his study. But, as the saying goes, be careful what you wish for.

Ripley is a tough-as-nails, antithesis-of-a-lady character (sound familiar, J.D. Robb fans?). She wants nothing to do with witchcraft, although she is attracted to the goofy newcomer. She has inherited the craft, but has also kept a tight leash on her powers, hoping to ignore them into oblivion. However, all the recent prodding, baiting and questioning are creating some cracks in the dam. Before all is said and done, Ripley will have a choice to make. But will that choice protect those she loves, or destroy them all?

Ripley is an electric character, bursting at the seams with emotions and conflict. She would be over the top, if Nora hadn't taken the time to make readers understand why she is the way she is, and also to provide her with Mac. Such a wonderful, and different, hero. He is not the typical, muscle-bound dominating guy, but the incessant workings of his mind and quiet confidence are just as seductive. He is as realistic as the guy next door. Okay, if next door is a campus.

In true scientist form, his preoccupation with his research makes him a little awkward, constantly misplacing odds and ends, and makes his reactions unpredictable. He completely won me over. I found it charming that he was distracted at the oddest moments by a new theory or a new discovery. His calm, analytical nature is a perfect foil for Ripley's explosiveness, countering conflict with cool, no-nonsense wit.

It looks like the final book, Face the Fire, may also be a winner. Heaven and Earth is peppered with little insights into Mia and Sam's past, and nicely sets the stage for their reunion. The preview at the end of the book made me eager to read the rest.

Summary: Heaven and Earth
Review: This was the second book in the Three Sisters Island trilogy. And my opinion is: what a good book :-). The basic story line in the book (for those of you who read the first book, Dance Upon Air), is that the cynical deputy of the island, Ripley Todd, is being her normal irritable self. Then, Mia Devlin, the main character of the unreleased third book, invites a PhD ("Mac" MacAllister Brooke) to the island to study the witches there (Nell, Ripley, and Mia). Mac's enthusiastic patience (that actually is not an oxymoron), begins to wear Ripley's determination down, and the story unfolds. I'm not going to tell more, because then I will give part of the story away. How ever, it was an intriguing book that instead of completing one part of the story, it was more of a continuation of the first book, with plenty of story left for the third. I have a feeling that the wait for the third book, Face The Fire, is going to be long and painful.
