Summary: Great writing
Review: Since getting these novels, I couldn't put them down. It's been 5 days so far, and I've just finished The Queen of the Damned. The first two books are incredible. It is filled with gorgeous writing, and tells a wonderful story. Somehow, Queen of the Damned didn't quite live up to my expectations, until when I was about 75% of the way through. Character development was wonderful, though at times many of the characters seem to replace others in the books. For example, Armand was this character of knowledge and power in Interview with the Vampire, and Marius takes over that role in The Vampire Lestat. That is the beauty of the work, where Louis' description of Armand is so similar to Lestat's description of Marius, and you feel the connection, the inevitability of thoughts and evolution in the creatures' lives.

For anyone who likes goth-styled writing, you'll be right at home here. For anyone who's just starting out in that department, be warned that the writing is wonderfully sensuous, and there will be moments when you feel overwhelmed by the glamour of the writing and the story. Have a good time.

Summary: Gothic campfire tales
Review: I love this woman's writing. I started The Vampire Lestat
on my way to work one morning and it entrapped me to the
degree that I phoned in sick on my way downtown and
proceeded to spend the day in a couple of nice bohemian
cafes, totally immersed in the world which this gifted
writer created. There are very few writers who can write
with the type of authority and clarity which she possesses.
I would love to sit around a campfire with her, Poe and Stephen
King-those would be some tales!

Summary: Wonderful
Review: This is a wonderful tale of the vampires that live in the shadows. The first book is told in first-person by Louis, a brooding, dark vampire full of grief and sorrow, and wreaked with the guilt of having to take human life. He tels a story beginning nearly twohundred years ago, when he was made a vampire by Lestat, a fascinating, strange charackter, whom he eventually loves and hates, because even if Lestat is magical, powerful and mysterious, he can provide no answers. And when Claudia, the child vampire Lestat createt to keep Louis with him, turns all her rage onto her "father", the story turns even more dark, violent, and haunting then ever before. Then, a suprise. The next book is not a sequel as such, but the Vampire Lestat's enraged response to what he feels are outrageus lies. This story is completely different, as the two vampires are different, for Lestat has a voice uniquely his own, and that voice will follow you into yout dreams, and your nightmares. This boxed set contains the first four books, and the storyline for all of them spans more than 8000 years, thats right, eight thousand years, an almost unrivaled timespan. It tells the story of the vampires of the world, from the beginning to the present, and a more fascinating story you will have to search for a very long time. The books themselves come in a pretty box and have nice covers, and seem to be good quality, if you worry about that. Trust me. Read these books.

Summary: Move over Dracula!
Review: Why are Anne Rice's vampires the best? Because she has created characters and stories that almost convince you that her vampires do indeed live amongst us mortals. She has breathed life into characters that have become bigger than the books she has written and are likely to become part of folk art and tale just like that other famous vampire. But when you read about Lestat and his many adventures, you'll be thinking "Count Who?" If you are into tales of vampires then this is a must read and of course I recommend getting the Complete Chronicles because once you read one, you'll want to read them all.

The reader should note however that this is not the completed chronicles, since Ms. Rice has written many other books that chronicle the lives of her beloved vampires. Among these books there is "Memnoch the Devil", which continues to chronicle the life of our favorite vampire Lestat and his adventure that takes him to heaven, hell and back to earth again. Anne Rice went on to write a series of books that chronicle the individual lives of some of her more notable vampire characters, such as the vampire Pandora in the book by the same name, Armand in "The Vampire Armand" and most recently the vampire Marius in "Blood and Gold". There is also the book "Merrick" which introduces a new character to the chronicles and sees the beginning of new adventures for our favorite vampires. She also wrote "Vittorio the Vampire" which although not officially part of the vampire chronicles, it is still a must for lovers of Ms. Rice's vampire stories. I recommend getting them all but then again, like I said before, when you read one, you'll want to read them all.

I look forward to the continuing expansion of The Vampire Chronicles and to the wonderful writing of Anne Rice.

Summary: Isn't this the way Vampire's should be?
Review: Anne Rice took the folklore of Vampires and made it her own. I absolutely loved the history of the Vampire's found in The Vampire Lestat and Queen of the Damned, which is my personal favorite. The way she brought the reader all the way back to early egyptian times, gods and goddesses, etc. and weaved it all into a complete history of a character that we all thought we knew from "Dracula" was amazing. I have not looked at a Vampire the same way since :) I felt for all the characters, especially Lestat and Louis, but I really had strong feelings for Armand too, he was only a "troubled teen", after all. She just made everything come together beautifully, she is a real talent. I will say that I was not all that fond of Body Snatchers, and I hated to see Lestat become what I consider wimpy. All in all, these were some of my favorite books to escape with, and some of my favorite characters of all time. Debbi
