Rating: Summary: A fun take on Vampires. Review: After reading another customner's review, I must agree that this book isn't quite as good as A Girl's Guide to Vampires, but it's still worth buying! Katie Macalister is a very talented author whose unique view on vampires is very refreshing compared to some of the other books out there. But not only has created her own unique type of vampire, she's created her own world with werecreatures, witches and demons, giving her lots of room to expand on what she's written and not having to stick to one type of creature. Katie portrays her main herione as a strong and capible woman with flaws, making it a lot easier to relate. Christian is expanded from the earlier book, a Girl's Guide to Vampires, and is not seen as one-diminsional which may happen in many books in this genre. Overall, it is a well written book, although lacking a little from a Girl's Guide.
Rating: Summary: Wicked fun... Review: Allie is a Summoner, which sounds a lot nicer than necromancer, which is basically what a Summoner is. Her job is to raise haunting spirits, and that is what she believes Christian is when she first lays eyes on him. Since the only other ghost she's raised until this point is a three legged cat, the mistake is natural. Christian is very much alive, but not completely human. He is a Dark One, or vampire. His mission in life is to find his Beloved who can save his soul. Allie, or Allegra, is she, or so he believes. He could be wrong, having already misidentified another woman as the Beloved in A Girl's Guide to Vampires. Allie and Christian's romance is off to a rocky start, between her defiant attitude and the troupe of ghosts she has acquired. Still, destiny is destiny, and troubles aside, Allie is Christian's only hope of redemption. **** Subtle and less than subtle will keep at least a smirk on your lips as the pages turn. If you've enjoyed any other vampire series on television or to read, then you will enjoy this one as well. Life can be too serious at times. Kate MacAlister's vampire novels will lift your spirits. If it raises any, then Allie can take care of that too. **** Reviewed by Amanda Killgore for Huntress Reviews.
Rating: Summary: Mmmm Review: Although I found myself anxiously awaiting the release of "Sex and the Single Vampire" after reading "A Girl's Guide to Vampires", at the same time I was a little annoyed because I loved Christian in the previous story and I wanted to him to end up with Joy his "Beloved". So of course when I began reading "Sex and the Single Vampire" I started to find fault with the writing, the storyline and even the characters. But Ms. MacAlister convinced me I was wrong and "Sex and the Single Vampire" is a more than worthy follow-up novel. I loved every minute of it. This story revolves around Allegra who is a special woman who has survived some of the things in her life that most of us could not imagine going through. Allegra happens to be a summoner of spirits who until she arrives in London hasn't managed to summon anything and her job is on the line unless she can produce some proof of her supposed abilities, that is until Allegra ends up going to a C. J. Dante a.k.a. "Christian" book signing arranged by no other than Christian's previously thought "Beloved" Joy and her sidekick Roxy. Allegra actually meets the man who will eventually change her entire world. Although Christian is everything she despises in a man (he is controlling and arrogant to top it off) but despite her distrust of Christian, she is drawn to him in a way she's never been drawn to another man. Of course Christian doesn't believe Allegra is his "Beloved" since he's been wrong before and because she is everything a "Beloved" shouldn't be, Allegra is self-sufficient and completely independent but curiosity gets the best of him and time proves them both wrong because when the Christian and Allegra are finally united they become a very powerful duo and can face down whatever trouble comes their way. I'm so glad that I did not allow my initial reaction to this novel get the best of me because I would have missed out on another wonderful story. By the time I finished this novel I knew Christian and Allegra were truly destined to be together and now Ms. MacAlister has me once again "anxiously" awaiting her next release. Don't miss this opportunity to read a simply amazing story proving how the power of love and trust when tested can indeed conquer all.
Rating: Summary: one-bite sitting teeth in cheek (and neck) tale Review: Anton Melrose II, chief of the western division of the United Psychical Research Association, informs employee Summoner Alegra Telford that if does not succeed soon she will return from London for the states. Alegra feels like a failure as she is in England because that is where many ghosts haunt and as a Summoner, she should be able to make contact. Moravian Dark One Christian Dante detests swinging London though he swings the scene in an attempt that seems futile to find his cherished one; only she can save his soul with her love. His nightmare wait suddenly turns to a blissful dream when he meets Alegra who thinks she has summoned him through the portals of the netherworld. He persuades her that he has never even visited the place, but as a vampire, he hopes that she will insure that he never does. When Alegra finally succeeds in summoning ghosts, she comes to the attention of worshippers of the dark and their malevolent evil spirit. Only with Christian's help can she hope to remain safe even as she finds herself reciprocating the love he feels for her. SEX AND THE SINGLE VAMPIRE is an amusing paranormal romance starring two delightful protagonists, a horde of supernatural creatures that make the beyond seem real plus the return of Alegra's pals from A GIRL'S GUIDE TO VAMPIRES. The story line hooks the audience the moment that Christian and Alegra meet because the reader can feel the attraction and that sets in motion the dangerous gathering of a deadly entity and his followers. Horror romance readers will enjoy this one-bite sitting teeth in cheek (and neck) tale. Harriet Klausner
Rating: Summary: Witty, cute, funny. Where's the blood? Review: As a book of romance and fun I give the book 5 stars. KM has a great way of giving personalities to her characters. For a vampire book it was missing blood and gore, but I guess not all are that bloody. Horror and blood - 2 stars. Rebecca The Vampire Book Club www.vampirebookclub.com
Rating: Summary: Excellent read Review: Being an avid reader of all things Vampire, I have to say that SSV gives us a refreshing spin on the world of vampires. The story and it's characters are funny which is definitely a break away from the normally dark and gloomy tone of most vampire books. Katie MacAlister's combination of wit and story telling ability drew me in to the story. It was fun and sexy. Definitely one to read over and over. For those of us who waited for Christian's story to be told, it was worth the wait.
Rating: Summary: vampires fans must have. Review: Fans of A Girl's Guide to Vampires will not be disappointed with Sex and Single Vampire. I believe that Sex and Single Vampire was better. It was better written and the heroine Allie, was not as silly as A Girl's Guide to Vampires Heroine, Joy. Though I enjoyed both heroines. This book can stand alone but it's better if you read the other one first. It's help with understanding the "Dark one's rules" and some of the secondary characters. This book is a nice break from the usual dark vampires books. Pippin
Rating: Summary: Ugh! Review: For all of you who loved this book I start out by saying that this is simply my opinion - Not Very Good. There were some funny moments in the book but I just couldn't connect with any of the characters - quite frankly they all seem like they were intellectually challenged. Beyond not caring a lick about the characters, I also found the plot to be a little lacking. It was a good idea for a book but I though it was poorly executed.
Rating: Summary: Light, and enjoyable read...................... Review: Found this book yesterday and just finished it and I really enjoyed this one better than the first one. She seemed more comfortable blending her characters together and their interacting was so much better. I really enjoyed Allie and also seeing Joy, Christian, Rapheal, and especially Roxie. Also loved the six ghosts they all had such personalities, Esme was my favorite. I highly recommend this sequel, you will enjoy it, I would say to read the first book in the series first, but not necessary because Katie describes them so well. More excitement and action and finally humor to round it nicely. Read it and enjoy, Katie please hurry with the next one.
