Rating: Summary: A Killer of a Comedy Review: AWESOME! That sums it up in one word. MJD has managed to write a book that had me laughing-out-loud from page one, and kept me laughing all the way to the end. A new twist in vampire stories, I can't wait for the next installment, UNDEAD AND UNEMPLOYED. For anyone who likes hot romance mixed with humor and a healthy dash of paranormal, UNDEAD AND UNWED is NOT to be missed.
Rating: Summary: No way to describe the pleasure Review: I laughed a lot, I teared a little and I shouted for the heroine of this crazy, sexy and cool 'la vampria' novel. The heorine died and became a vampire, but does that stop her, oh no, in fact its just going on with life undead, worries about your pet, your job, your family and friends, the future and what you plan to wear the next evening does not stop just because one survives mutliple death situations. Those situations she can handle but as Vampire Queen, she's going to have deal with fashion cliches, threats against her life and a sexy, sexy man with stamina of bull. What's next for her she does not want to know, but it will be fun for us to read. It was a little of WB's Angel, the clut classic Buffy, Sex and the City and the A-Team. "The Sidekicks", followers and consorts, fun, funny, sexy and deadly. Lines like "My being a vampire doesn't bother you but my giving money to P.E.T.A does?" will have you chuckling behind this book, the sly wit that is in the lines of this book, make one of the best this year!!! This is a must have and if you enjoy it that try Shari Shattuck's "Loaded" The say wit and humor with sass, sex and smarts these two authors are just being their careers and I can't wait to read more.
Rating: Summary: Not a Vampire Fan Review: Vampire books (to me) are just not beliveable... But Mary Janice Davidson has made this Vampire Queen a very belivable charactor! I can easily imagine myself in the same position and doing many of the same hilarious things Betsy does in this book if I were too wake as one of the undead. "I felt like I could pick up the entire house and throw it down the block. Or wear knockoffs! No, that was just my rage talking." How could you NOT love this Prada addicted Vampire?
Rating: Summary: It's A Killer! Review: UNDEAD AND UNWED by MaryJanice Davidson SPOILERS NOT INCLUDED -- 10:52:26 03/05/04 Fri For those of you looking for yet another Vampire fix! This book is tooo funny! If you thonk your having a bad day...meet Betsy Taylor (yep, short for Elizabeth Taylor!) today is her 30th birthday and it ain't happy. The bus is late and of course the only available seat on it has gum in it! She's late to work, only to find that she has been laid off. Her birthday party is canceled due to a freak snowstorm and her cat Gizelle has run off again! Well, since Giselle is a "house-cat" she goes outside to retrieve her only to be plowed down and killed by a Pontiac Aztec! Now, you may think how could things get worse? Well they do and what she goes through is HILARIOUS!!! This book was originally published as an E-Book for Ellora's Cave. So all you Ellora's Cave fans you may have already read this book. Well half of the book. According to rumor, Mary Janice added over 200 more pages which not only lengthened the story (well duh) but allowed her to explore and expand the plot. All to my great satisfaction! So those fans of Susan Donovan, Jennifer Crusie, and SEP run, do not walk to the bookstore for your copy! If rumor is true, Mary Janice had to tone down the sex. Now, if this accurate, the pages must have spontaneously combusted after reading CAUSE the scenes are HUGH 5+.
Rating: Summary: Betsy may suck; the book doesn't Review: This is a fun book to read, especially if you're into Vamp Lit Lite. The plot's not deep, nor are the characters, but that's not the point. It's the one-liners and the snappy dialog that make "Undead and Unwed" worthwhile. Newly risen vamp Elizabeth (Betsy) Talyor must adjust to her undead status as well as her role as the long-awaited Vampire Queen. Of course she runs afoul of the ground rules by which vamps live their undead lives and the politics of vampdom. She gets an unwanted crash couse in both under the tutelage of the manly Sinclair (sometimes called Sink Lair) while trying to avoid her arch nemesis, the truly tacky Nostro (short for Nostrodamus). She survives, as does Sink Lair, and puts her stepmonster's jewelry in the blender along the way. By the end of the book, her shoe collection, if not her love life, is greatly improved. Several reviewers have commented that the second half of the book is not as fresh as the first half. To some extend, I agree with them. My suggestion is to take it slowly and savor the book. In my experience, humor tends to dull if you read too much of it at one setting.
Rating: Summary: Different Review: The ending was slightly abrupt but the story was fun and the characters were interesting.
Rating: Summary: Funny Review: I won't supply a plot synopsis, as many have done a great job with that already. I really enjoyed the first half of the book. It was funny and I could definitely spot the parody. I am not really a romance fan so I was happy to see that while this book does give a nod to that genre, at least it doesn't wholly rely on it. However, by the second half of the book, I was finding Betsy a little wearing. The gimmick got a little too gimmicky, I guess. I'll look forward to the next book in the series but will probably look it over in the bookstore first to see if Betsy becomes a little less grating. The continual name calling and corrupting of names (Sink Lair for Sinclair, ad nauseum) to be sarcastic seemed funny the first time, but when it just kept happening, it made me think that Betsy may have been 30 when she died but she sure needed to grow up. :) I bought this book to tide me over until Charlaine Harris' next installment of the really wonderful and increasingly complex Southern Vampire series is published. May can't get here soon enough!
Rating: Summary: Laugh Out Loud Review: I don't remember the last book I read that was so funny, my family asked me to go into another room because I was so loud. Having said that, this book is light, fun, wickedly sarcastic and a very different take on vamires from what i'm used to. This story is told from the point of view of Betsy Taylor, confirmed shoe addict, and recently unemployed, and more recently undead. Betsy finds herself the reluctant, prophesised Queen of the vamps, and is bribed with designer shoes to help overthrow the current insane monarch. While the plot isn't oh-so-original, the vivid personalities and wonderful characters jump right off the page. The dialog is excellent and never boring. It sort of voices all those annoying cliches of the horror genre and reworks them into something fun. So while this is very light reading, I very very very highly recommend it, my mother pulled mine out of my hands the second I finished just to see what was so darn funny.
Rating: Summary: Great read Review: Normally I don't care for books written in the first person, but this one was great. Funny & fast paced. I finished it in one day. Can't wait for the next one. This was one that I didn't want to end and definately a keeper.
Rating: Summary: It's like, ya know...! Review: A very silly book, but fun. Betsy is absolutely obnoxious and makes no apologies about it. (...). As Betsy would say: Yuck! Otherwise, it's just a fun bit of fluff to fill a few hours. Enjoy!
