Summary: There will never be another book as good as this one!
Review: This book was the best I have ever read. I fell totally in love with each of the characters. It was scary because if made you wonder, what if this really happened. I wish King could have added another 1,000 pages.

Summary: HANDS DOWN THE BEST WRITTEN BOOK I'VE EVER READ!
Review: This is the one - you will never read a better book than this. King does such a good job of describing the characters, settings, and situations that you literally find yourself becoming part of the book! One word of advice - do not watch the movie after reading this book; no actor could ever match the drama that you will create in your own mind based on King's descriptions! EXCELLENT!!!

Summary: At first I was a skeptic - But it really does rule
Review: Although I have respect for Stephen King as an author, I was never really attracted to much of his "horror" genre. The Stand was recommended to me by a close friend, and I picked it up skeptically ... eight hours later I put it down, finished .... my head was swimming with ideas, thoughts about the book, characters, situations .... it was all I could think of for the whole day! I highly recommend it!

Summary: This is the best book I've ever read
Review: Those who know me and know that my taste in books usually runs to historical fiction and 19th century British novels are always shocked when I recommend a Stephen King book as THE book to read. The Stand has it all. Read the original in '83 and inhaled the uncut version in three days. The thought that a superflu could decimate the entire world, save less than 1 percent of the population, is the absolute most frightening aspect of this book. Germ warfare is a very real threat in this day of Saddam Hussein. I do have to agree with the opinion of Hobbes@eclipse in that the fight between good and evil wasn't necessary and would've found it more interesting to concentrate on the survivors rebuilding civilization. But the good-evil battle allowed King to introduce some pretty interesting and slimy characters. I never quite got Randall Flagg's appeal to his followers though. It's definitely a book you won't be able to put down.

Summary: clearly one of the most enthralling novels ever written
Review: When I first encountered Captain Trips I was hooked. As an avid reader of the macabre I can honestly say that this book was the ONLY book that I have ever become so engrossed in that it required a very real "comeback to Earth" period. I love Stephen King and I feel that this was his greatest work. Not for those paranoid of the coming Armageddon it is nevertheless a very thought provoking not to mention bone chilling account of what may soon be.

Summary: A masterpiece
Review: I don't really feel a 10 rating goes for a book easily. The idea about facing the end of the world is such the same idea of taking a stand between good and evil.King's best novel ever written. If u usually try to explore your unknown soul and the reason of life this your book.the temptation of evil is worth the stand of mother abigail and her fello's.

Summary: The Stand stands alone
Review: When Captain Trips wipes out 99.8% of the populations it takens amazing psychic forces to group the people remaining under Randell Flag and Mother Abigail. This is a novel of triumphs, of the war between good and evil, of romance and horror and the instinct of survival. It has strong characters who interelate in a building up to the Ultimate ending. What could be worse than almost everyone dieing? - Read and find out. There are not very many reasons to visit America(sorry Yanks) but to follow the path that Stuart and crue travelled. No one has captured the 70's paranoia of self distruction than Stephen King and here in the 90's it still holds and twists the human imagination. See you with Mother Abegail. M-o-o-n - that spells excelent.

Summary: The biggest and best Stephen King ever.
Review: When I looked at The Stand-Complete and Uncut after I had bought it, I realized for the first time just how big it is. At over a thousand pages it was the biggest book I had ever attempted to read. It was worth it. The Stand:Complete and uncut is one of the deepest books Stephen King has written. It is rich in detail, while not making it hard to read. The charaters are developed completely and realistically, bringing them to life as no other author can. The thing that suprised me was that there were so MANY charaters and they were juggled around with such precision. It was fun all the way. The Stand:complete and uncut never loses steam over it's thousand page journey. It roars ahead and drags you along for the wildest ride of your life. The Stand:complete and uncut is the best book I've ever read, seriously.

Summary: My name is Vivienne and I am a Stand-aholic
Review: I read the Stand for the first time about 18 years ago. It remains my most favorite piece of literature. I am an avid reaader with a verocious appetite for the macabre. The Stand is the perfect recipe for my imagination. It has everything...romance, action, fear of the known and unknown, love that heals, jealousy, every emotion known to man. What I enjoyed most was man's ability to overcome and survive. It definitely left me wanting for more so I've now read the original version 5 times and the uncut version about 3 times. I was reading it once a year until a friend commented that she thought I might be hooked on it. I went cold turkey and stopped reading it. Now I just watch the miniseries!

Summary: Another battle of good vs. evil
Review: Surprise, Surprise. I am once again dissapointed by one of Stephen King's so called "books". It is my opinion that while Stephen King may have some good ideas, he's just not a very good writer. The Stand began well; portraying a very possible scenario of a government mistake in a bio-chemical lab. It decimated the Earth's population, leaving only one percent remaining. It is after this epidemic however that the story goes down hill with the introduction of the Terror Element. The story Climaxes at the beginning, has a barely tolerable middle, and comes to a screeching halt at the end. Please Mr. King, spare us more of this crap. Just stop writing or give your ideas to someone who knows what thier doing.
