Summary: The best book by Stephen King
Review: Three years ago I bought this book, now after reading it over and over again (each time captivating) also by taking it on all my trips. The paperback book is very worn out and bent. If this keeps going I will have to buy anougher copy soon. If any Stephen King fan has not read it you have missed a reading experience of a lifetime.

Summary: Good versus evil? I dont know.
Review: This is one of the best novels I have ever read don,t get me wrong but its alot more then good versus evil. Its survival anyway you know how.The fact that paths to survival cross and clash is inevitable.Evil and good are subjective ,one can not be without the other. Which is illustrated poignately by the end of this wonderful novel. When "good" finally wins out you thinks its the end its not....when the walking dude comes walking onto that south american shore you begin to realize the real horror of this story.

Summary: Captain Trips and the Wrath of God
Review: "The Stand" is a blend of science fiction/fantasy; the classic 'End of the World' type novel except with a twist as only Stephen King can tell it. A superflu, called Captain Trips, is let loose upon an unsuspecting world by an underground secret lab worker who escapes carrying the virus. Millions die from the virus leaving only a few hundred left to face a diabolical evil in the badlands of Nevada. I have read this book several times and each time I find something new in it. One of the reasons I like this book is that it starts out in a little dust ridden blip of a town in Texas. Being a Texan, I believe Stephen King has visited our fair state since he described that town so well...even down to the run down dusty gas station. If you have never read Stephen King, then I would receommend starting with "The Stand." I believe it is the best book he has ever written. Enjoy!

Summary: If you could only read one book in your life, read The Stand
Review: Words can not describe how engrossing, fascinating and thoroughly enjoyable this book is. It is a masterpiece. A long read, yes, but you just don't want it to end. A lot of characters, yes, but all the better. My husband and I were driving from British Columbia, Candada to Arizona and back and I picked up The Stand in a convenience store at the start of the trip, being a King fan and this being one I hadn't read. Three pages into it it was so good I started reading it aloud to my husband. I read it to him all the 1600 miles down to Arizona and all the 1600 miles back to Canada, reading with the light of a flashlight at night even, as he drove, even as my voice became hoarser and hoaser. I've since read the book many times...it's just so good. One of the most engrossing books you'll ever read.

Summary: zzzzzzzz.......
Review: I have to aggree with the reviewer below who gave the book a "1". The only thing that kept me reading was the belief that finally something would happen -- it never did. All we get is some needlessly wordy account of people treking across the country only to find out that they have nothing to do with defeating the enemy. What a joke. It has a good premise, but fails miserably in its objective.

Summary: The best book I've ever read!
Review: I never thought I could read (let alone re-read) a 1100+ page book, but it was no problem with this GREAT book by Stephen King. You should definitely read the uncut version to get all that King intended for this book to be - a look at our (possible) future, how good ultimately triumphs over evil, and how a better world may be in store for mankind! (The extra 500 pages in this version do make a difference!) Almost every character-type imaginable is present in this story and it's easy to identify with them all. A close second (and I do mean close) to this book is Robert McCammon's "Swan Song". Similar storyline, but in some ways even more engrossing! You won't be disapponted by either novel!

Summary: First [edited] version was better
Review: I read the Stand when it was first published and LOVED it. In fact, I re-read it almost immediately. Upon reading the uncut version years later, I grew to understand how editors earn their money. I really believe the edited version conveys the story's messages better because it is more concise. I couldn't stand the "cowboy" character who didn't appear at all in the edited version. His presence did nothing to help drive the plot; in fact, it dragged on the book's movement, in my opinion. Like others who have contributed reviews, I recommend this book to people as a great piece of literature. It will stand the test of time because although the dialogue and cultural references set it at a certain point in time, the themes of good vs. evil are timeless.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Definitely, King's best book ever.
Review: A lot more than the eternal battle between good and evil. Believe me , a WHOLE LOT MORE. I couldn't stop reading until I reached the end, it was long but definitely worth it. Best book in the world.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: A tale that comes alive.
Review: What is it that readers look for in a novel? Plot? Characterization? Suspense? Drama?

Stephen King's tale, The Stand, embodies all these elements and more. The Uncut Edition includes information missing from the original that does that much more to invite the reader into a dark and forbidding world. A world that may not be as implausible as you think.

The characters are living breathing creations that you can truly care for. Read this book with plenty of tissues at hand. You will need them. Be prepared to spend the rest of your life wondering if a cold might be more than just a cold. Be prepared to love, and to hate, to fill joy, triumph, and heart-breaking sorrow.

Of all the books I have read and loved...this one I love the most.
