Summary: If it were possible to give this book an 11, I would.
Review: With the exception of the "Dark Tower" series, I have read everything that Stephen King has written. In fact, I think I've paid for at least a bathroom in his house.

"The Stand" is the absolutely best book that he has ever written. Once I started reading it, I didn't stop until I was done. It really makes you think - what if our government wasn't quite so diligent with security at their chemical warfare test kitchens, we could possibly go through this exact scenario.

The characters were wonderful, Frannie, Stu, Tom Cullen - all were examples of people who have been through the worst that you can go through - and triumphed. Mother Abigail was the perfect counterpart to Randall Flagg.

I was pleasantly surprised that the movie stayed so close to the book, losing only a few characters.

I've read the book many times now and will finally have to go out and get another copy of it as mine is in tatters. If someone were to tell me "I've never read a Stephen King book. Recommend one to me," this would be it.

Summary: Good but not his' best
Review: The novel is a very good story and very suspensful. I loved Mother Abigal she was an EXCELLENT character. The only reason I gave this a 9 rating instead of a 10 is because there are loads of characters in the book and you really have to pay close attention to keep up with who is who.

Summary: Why does King waste our time?
Review: I cannot understand the popular appeal of this book. The first 200 or so pages of this book are OK - about what one would expect from a mediocre science fiction writer. Then the story develops into a rather trite and heavy-handed morality tale, with the 'forces of good' settling in Boulder and the 'forces of evil' settling in Las Vegas (hmmm...). The characters are neither endearing nor intruiging, and the subplots meander in a frustrating way. The conclusion, however, is very possibly the worst ending to a book that I have ever read. It reminds one of a third-grade creative writing assignment which is due the next day.

I read this book at the suggestion of an acquaintance, and have no intention of picking up another King book.

The only explanation I can offer as to the rave reviews given to this book is that, after 900 pages, people will claim to like it just as an excuse for having put so much of their time into wading through it.

Summary: The Stand, in any form,is one of the best books ever written
Review: I remember the first time I read The Stand. It was less than a week before I started 9th grade, and I came across the original 1977 version in the library and checked it out. I read it non-stop. I've never read another Stephen King book, yet I've somehow managed to read The Stand, both versions, many times. Everything about the book, the characters, the plot, the ending, they're all great. I feel I must defend the ending against those who have disliked it. To them I say read Revelation 19 and 20. The ending is not perfect, but it's still very good. If you haven't read The Stand, read the original version (if you can find it), then read the complete and uncut version. I recommend at least reading one or the other before seeing the movie (it's alot better if you do). The Stand is a great book. Make time to read it.

Summary: "The Stand" is an enthraling and intense novel.
Review: "The Stand" by Stephen King is an enthraling and intense novel similar to the movie "Outbreak." A vicious disease wipes out the world's population, except for a handful of survivors. Now, these survivors are pulled in a battle between good and evil. Not only are they fighting for the survival of the human race, but for their souls as well. From the moment I started this book, I couldn't put it down. Not only is this book great to read for enjoyment, but it raises serious questions about the human race and where we are headed.

Summary: Hmm..
Review: An author accustomed to being under a center spotlight like Stephen King would usually have one day, his dream of writing a long novel of apocalyptic scope. He realized this dream when he produced The Stand. All throughout it must be said the book is a masterpiece of darkness. However, nothing is flawless. How about the several hundred pages of ad hoc committees written in the diary of Frannie Goldsmith? That is plain boring, in my opinion. Not relevant in the leastest to the story. Not wishing to be unkind or anything, but then, how about the ending? Talk about far-fetched!! Deus ex Machina to the rescue! Gee!! That damaged the book's reputation. If that hadn't happened, the book would no doubt have to have been awarded AT LEAST a Bram Stoker award. Mr. King, do us a favor. Write a good novel, but write it all the way through. Dont just let it all go at the end. Your millions of readers thank you.

Summary: KING AT HIS GRANDEST
Review: ALL OF THE BOOKS BY STEPHEN KING THAT I HAVE READ ARE EXCELLENT, BUT HIT ONE STANDS OUT IN MY MIND AS THE BEST OF THE BEST. Summary: Best book around
Review: If more people read books in this country, this one would become a classic for sure. Everything about it is good! I particularly liked how in the end he tied everything together into one. Anyone that reads this book and gives it lower than an 8 for a rating must be insane!

Summary: My All Time Favorite Book!
Review: This book is my bible, I carry it with me everywhere. I have read it several times and plan to read it many more. There is never a time when the characters in this book dont live in my mind. If you have never read this book, then do yourself a favor and read it. Its a long book, but worth every word. Call in sick, skip class, turn the phone off, do whatever you have to do to read this book. Chances are, if you are anything like me, you wont be able to put it down once you pick it up. Frannie, Stu, Larry, Nadine, Nick, Mother Abigail, and all the others feel like old friends to me. Stephen King has written the ultimate book that should be read by everyone. There are millions of books in the world, but only one Stand. Make your Stand and read it today.
