Summary: A great book about post-apocalyptic earth
Review: This is definitely one of King's greatest books of all time. Although it is long, the depth and character development is amazing, and every second is enthralling. He keeps such a balance between the paranormal and reality in the book that you feel like this is actually happening. The humanity of the book is amazing too, having characters from every point on the spectrum of life. You see love, affection, hate, greed, apathy, caring, and many more emotions coming from the characters. King manages to keep such a good balance of every element of a novel throughout the book that you feel compelled to read the book in one sitting. This is a masterpiece of modern fiction, and the only thing that stands between any reader and this book is it's length - over a thousand pages can be a bit overwhelming; but you have to remember that the depth given to each individual subplot makes them deserving to be in a book of their own. If you have never read this book, you don't know what you're missing.

Summary: perfect book
Review: Anyone who has anything bad to say about this book is a total moron. It is one of the most amazing stories ever created. With a perfect ending. People who trash talk this story obviously don't know how to read that good.

Summary: THE BEST BOOK I'VE EVER READ!
Review: THIS BOOK IS DEFINATELY THE BEST BOOK I'VE EVER READ! IT WAS SO DETAILED THAT IT WAS LIKE I WAS WATCHING A MOVIE OF IT IN MY MIND. STEPHEN KING DEFINATELY AT HIS BEST! HE'S NEVER ACCOMPLISHED ANYTHING SO VIVID AND AMAZING IN HIS WHOLE LIFE BETTER THAN THE STAND! MY MOM WOULD HAVE TO FORCE ME TO GO TO BED BECAUSE I WAS READING IT TOO MUCH AT NIGHT. I STARTED READING THE STAND WHEN I WAS 10 1/2 AND COULDN'T STOP SINCE! I FINISHED IT THIS WEEKEND AND THE STAND IS A BOOK I'LL NEVER FORGET. dEFINATELY WORTH BUYING!

Summary: Not the worst book I've ever read, but close...
Review: The beginning was good, and that made the ending so much harder to take -- like a broken promise. I kept expecting the characters to transcend their destinies and do something unexpected or at least interesting, but they just plowed on like donkeys tied to a mill wheel. And the ending -- after all that build-up, the whole thing is resolved with an accident?!? This is exactly the sort of deus ex machina ending that would get you flunked in undergraduate writing classes.

Summary: Avid Reader of Sci-Fi/Fantasy
Review: This book lacked any reason to read after everyone reached Boulder and Vegas. Up till then the story was great. Swan Song was a much better book and I suggest to anybody that liked The Stand, Read Swan Song and see how an apocolyptic book should end. Even with that in mind The stand is not a bad read .

In some parts, I thought it was very emotional...... This was a really good book and the movie was EXCELLENT!!! Stephen King is such an awesome writer!!! He can keep people on their feet and what not! LOVED IT!

Summary: Great book - one of his all time best
Review: Steven King - The Stand

In a heavily guarded, top-secret government research lab in California, something has gone hideously wrong: a ferociously potent killer virus has escaped. A guard stationed at the lab flees with his family, thinking that he's saved them from the ghastly fate of those inside... but that is just the start of the nightmare.

And so the plot thickens...this has to be one of the best books that I have had the pleasure of reading in a long time - the plot is second to none with it giving the feeling that you are actually there with the people in this nightmarish world where people are dropping like wildfire to this killer virus that is spreading around. The characters in this book are built up well making you feel that you know them with the book being built up into peaks and low spots...each bit building up gradually more of what you know of the characters, until the inevitable 'captain trips' or the 'virus' snuff the life out of them making them die of a terrible death...slowly suffocating in their own mucus. But not everyone dies and a few main characters are built up through the book - later in the plot either turning to the dark side and Satan with the man in the black cowel or to the good side with God and 'good ole grammar' (aged 108 and no less). As I mentioned above you actually start to feel for the characters with some turning to the dark side who you thought wouldn't with the plot changing all the time leaving you in constant suspense throughout the book wanting to know more.

This book compares well in similarity to other Steven King books although I think that The Stand has to be one of the best books he has written. To me it compares well to all of his other books because of the similar way it builds up the characters and makes you want to turn the next page to see what happens to them - although it isn't a carbon copy of his other books varying tremendously in the storyline.

I would definitely recommend this book

Summary: A little to Americanized?
Review: I thought this was a great book with great characters and amazing suspense but what happened to the rest of the world? Why did the battle of good and evil happen in the U.S?
