Rating: Summary: Excellent book!!! I couldn't put it down Review: I highly recommend this book. The plot was incredibly gripping and the characters were wonderfully developed. I found myself truly emotionally invested in the characters of The Stand...almost as if they were real-life acquaintances. Some people complain that the book is too long and drawn out, but I couldn't put it down and finished it in under a week...and I was left wanting more. A truly excellent book!!!
Rating: Summary: A slow-moving "epic" that doesn't go anywhere. Review: I bought "The Stand" (Complete and Uncut Edition) at Amazon. What is going on? How can anybody consider it one of King's best novels? The story is slow-moving, long, boring, depressing and it doesn't make any sense. It took me almost a month to read it. I'll try to comment the story without being a spoiler. King's heroine is even more detestable than the Bad Dude. In the first 50 pages, Frannie is introduced as a silly girl that got pregnant because she forgot to take the pill. Her reaction was to get mad at her boyfried. Frannie can't listen to poetry reading without giggling incontrollably. While everybody is fighting for their lives, she finds time to write a stupid diary. Folks, this is how King introduces this saga's heroine. Unbelievable! The end of this "epic" adds a new dimension to the term "off-the-wall". This is a terrible mix of religion and science fiction.
Rating: Summary: This book keeps you hooked! Review: The Stand is a lot like other Stephen King books. You really get in depth with a lot of the characters and learn their pasts. This really makes for a great ending and excellent book overall. If you have the time, read this book.
Rating: Summary: There is world beyond Maine Review: The problem with american writers (or americans for that matter) is that don't see world outside of USA. After superflu mother Abigail and Flagg drew only americans. What about Canadians and Mexicans? or people living in latin America?. What happened to other parts of the world is mentioned less than 10 times and then as afterthought. There are other things that just don't click: it's believed that nation can't survive, if it loses 20% of population (Soviets came close to that in WW2). Here dies about 99% of population. Boulder Free Zone without army? Come on, people, americans are supposted to be in love with weapons and they start arming police only at the end of the book. If they knew what Flagg was up to, why didn't they organize army sooner? Or why pull Deus-ex-machina stunt, while they could easily drop nuke on Vegas (O.K. they didn't have Trashcan, but somebody had to be pilot, right?). Why portrait good guys in such detail and not bad guys (besides Trashcan)? I'm not sugesting addind 100+ pages, but cut out some bad parts and include this. Or portrait everybody in less detailed way and lose 100+ pages.
Rating: Summary: Oh YEAH! Review: It's been awhile since I've read this, but the fact hasn't changed that it's my favorite book ever. When you meet the characters, you begin to really know them, and start thinking you know them. They are the most memorable characters ever created... Stu and Frannie, Harold, Nadine and so on. Beware though- when you're reading this, make sure that when you're not actually reading this, that you can distinguish between real life and "The Stand" life... you'll think about it all the time!!!!
Rating: Summary: Excellent & I'm not a King Fan Review: This is the only King book I like. I wish he would supplement this book with more details from various parts....especially the trek to Colorado. I find the whole concept of (almost) last people on earth fascinating. It's been done before but with too many science fiction aspects...see Night of the Living Dead, I am Legend, etc. I enjoyed the "real" parts better than the Walking Dud stuff. But, of course, you cannot separate them. Overall, a great read if you like the subject matter. Don't bother if you don't as you will be bored....see other comments.
Rating: Summary: Very slooooowww moooving...zzzzzzzzzz! Review: I read the very first version of this book, and thought it was long. Especially when it took me 3 months to get through it. I kepted putting it down because it was so boreing in many parts. Then I found out he added more to an already to long book. I thought there is no way I'm going to read this book again just to see what other tripe he added. He should have gotten rid of the first two-thirds of the book and keep the rest.
Rating: Summary: excellent. mr. king's best. Review: One of those books you will find yourself re-reading time and time again. The characters are more than fiction, they become your friends. You struggle with them and dream their dreams. Then, when you least expect it, they whisper in your ear, "Come see me. You know the way. But you got to hurry 'cause the Walking Dude won't wait. He's about his business and we got to be about ours...." The most compelling, satisfactory read of Stephen King's career. You'll love it.
Rating: Summary: Stephen King is the man!! Review: I loved this book. The worst part about this book was the fact that it had to end. I wanted it to go on forever. I wish it did. Also, Mr. King, get better soon on your recovery from getting hit by a car. Feel better and send a possesed car or dog after that guy. A devoted fan.
Rating: Summary: The Greatest!! Review: This book is just simply the best book ever written!! I loved everything about it!! I got the hardback version of the book from my boyfriend...and could not put it down!! It is my absolute favorite book!!
