Summary: The Stand is a novel that can leave the reader speechless!
Review: The Stand is a thrilling novel about what human kind could be like if it came close to annihalation. After a plague wipes out 99.9% of humans the rest have to band together and recreate society. It is an interesting science fiction twist to what could happen after the near end of humans.

Summary: Almost more of a modern fairytale than a horror story
Review: While it never escalates to the levels of terror attained by "It", and its not as much fun as "Gerald's Game" or "Desparation", this is a strikingly original and vitally important epic for any of King's fans. Quite simply, you must read this book! It's exciting and harrowing and the modern equivalent of a Brothers Grimm fairytale. Read it! (And, as with all fairytales, try to ignore the errors and failings of the book--specifically that King forgets the rest of the planet outside of the Americas.)

Summary: INCREDIBLE !
Review: I have been reading Stephen King since the age of 16, and I have been purposefully leaving "The Stand" until last, and it has certainly been well worth the wait. It is without doubt the best horror book ever written. The building of characters was superb, and the adrenaline it maintains throughout is astonishing. The main characters of Stu Redman and Larry Underwood, and not forgetting the one, the only Nick Andros where one the same par as T.S Garp. I thought King had provided the ultimate with Classics such as It and Salem's Lot, and I was constantly impressed by more recent novels, especially Insomnia, but this went above the high expectations King has set in my mind. A mandatory read for everybody.

Summary: POSSIBLY ONE OF THE GREATEST STORIES EVER WRITTEN!
Review: This book is the greatest novels i have ever read. i read it over the summer and couldn't put it down. the story is so real because it could happen. It goes so in-depth with the characters. Larry Underwood was my favorite character but the movie really screwed up "Baby Can You Dig Your Man." I thought it was a blues song. but anyhow the entire time i was reading it i kept thinking what songs would go with it good. Tom Petty and The Wallflowers would go good. I kept seeing Jakob Dylan as Larry. Please read this if you have any idea what real fear might be.

Summary: TEN STARS!
Review: I agree, you either love this book or hate it, and I LOVE IT! I especially enjoyed the religious overtone of the book and the unusual way King handled Randall Flagg and the other characters. I too wondered what happened to the rest of the world (aside from the US), but it didn't ruin the book for me. (Of course I live in the US, so...)

By the way, the movie wasn't half bad either...for a movie <grin>. I saw it first and then bought the book. I'd never done that before.

Summary: Stand By this Book
Review: I would have thought that a novel this long could become tedious. Admittedly, anyone who is not an eager reader will find it to be a difficult read. But do persist.Whether you enjoy Stephen King or not will not particuarly matter, as this novel is not King style at all. It offers a realism not usually featured in Kings outrageous novels, a realism that makes you stop and think. Itproduces character you will really love or really hate, and is overall a satisfying read. It might take take youa year to read, or in my case, a month. But eitehr way, when you get to the end, you won't regret it.

Summary: Move over King and McCammon and let Kleier take a bow
Review: I loved SWAN SONG and THE STAND--excellent books each. But both pale as end-of-the-world epics in comparison to the ultimate end time novel I've ever read, Glen Kleier's THE LAST DAY. If you haven't read that book, check it out. It has the most original plot and ending yet, and I read end of the world books with a passion. If you like King or McCammon, you will appreciate Kleier.

Summary: More book than anyone really needs...
Review: It is long...very long. And it when it was over, I was happy. Not because I felt enriched, but because, simply, it was over.

Summary: I have read this book six times.
Review: I can't help it I just get to missing the characters so much. The detail of their lives makes it feel like you have known them your whole life. This is by far the best book ever written, and i would love to have titles of simular books. If you have not read this book it is a must. Beware however it tends to be addictive. I have never read a book that made me feel like a part of the story as this one did. You are always left wondering whats next and seldom late for work.....Therefore yes This book The Stand complete and uncutt is a King masterpiece, and one that will forever grace my collection. I trully believe that it is impposible to write a better fiction.

Summary: An engrossing and electrifying book!
Review: Out of the many books I have read, this is, if not the best, than definitely one of the best. The lives of the characters are probed deeply, allowing us to feel what they are going through. The plot is not far-fetched, but bases itself on a danger the world must recognize in today's society of biological & chemical technology. An earlier comment criticized the "heroine" as being a giddy school girl. I would like to point out that heros are not born dignified and noble. It is how they handle times of crisis that makes them heros, of which there are plenty in this book.
