Rating: Summary: Over-rated. Typical Anne Rice! Review: These books could have been amazing, they could have been breathtaking, they could have been... art. But they weren't. Sure, the concept is original and there are some truly delectable parts. But honestly, how many times do we have to hear about someone getting spanked or Beauty's incessant whining? If all the boring parts were taken out and Beauty's character even slightly developed this story would have been the length of one of the novels and fun to read! Unfortunately, the spankings get redundant and som parts are just gross, pure shock value. These novels, while entertaining and worth reading, have all the depth of DeSade... the world's greatest over-rated author of erotic "trash". Buy the audio tapes of these books if you can find them... Elizabeth Montgomery (remember Bewitched?) read Beauty's parts and all the boring junk was cut out! They're much better than the novels themselves!
Rating: Summary: I was given this book to read by a friend of mine Review: I read this book after a friend had given it to me and said I should read it. He said it was about submission and domination and was the third book of a trilogy on Sleeping Beauty. He told me to read the preface, which clued me into what had happened in the first two books. I am glad I started with this book because based on what the preface had to say for what went on in the first two, I was getting the better end of the deal starting with three and working back to one.I still have not read the other two books, but having grown up with Disney's Sleeping Beauty, I wanted to relate that movie to this book....not something to do when thinking in a child's frame of mind as it is quite disturbing to me. However, once I got past trying to relate the two, this was a wonderful book to read. I really enjoy reading authors that can bring such great imagery to a novel, and this is one of those authors. I can actually see myself in Beauty's place, feel what she feels. If domination or submission are turn-ons to you, I seriously advise you to pick up this book. I read this book in 2 days between work and college in any spare time I could manage. It was such a page turner I didn't want to put it down to sleep at night. I was immensely satisfied with this book and would read it again and again.
Rating: Summary: Don't even bother Review: People can say all they want about 'erotic fantasy" and "opens your mind" etc. but in my opinion (and the opinion of the 7 people in my book club) this book was not worth the read. I am very open sexually and very little offends me, but this just seemed to be an exercise in shock-factor rather that any real story or character development. There is nothing sexy about grossly mistreating women and that is essentially what many of the "sexual" scenes are about.
Rating: Summary: otherwordly erotica Review: Beauty is an entertaining look into the mind of a submissive, allbeit a fantastic one. By the second book, some of the punishments and activities seem to have been devised just to shock and have little basis in anything remotely reasonable or believable. If you are looking for straight fantasy erotica, these are great and fun to read. But not for someone looking for something a bit more realistic.
Rating: Summary: Ever wanted to step into the mind of a submissive? Review: I was drawn to these books in a self exploration. Having never participated in the lifestyle of Dominance and Submission I found these books to be a beacon of light. These three books take you through the journey of a submissive and her awakening desire, capture, and taming of her sexuality. The books are written very explicitly, but unlike others they give you the main characters point of view, and what is going through her mind as she endures new aspects of her submissive life. I found these books to be entirely intoxicating.
Rating: Summary: Do you like spanking? Review: It's an interesting series, and very creative in some parts, but too long for my taste. I'm not a prude, and I think some BDSM writing can be genuinely fascinating and erotic whether or not it's personally your cup of tea. However, Sleeping Beauty focusses rather tightly on spanking and pony-play fetishes, largely to the exclusion of sex, romance and emotion. I simply don't find these activities as fascinating as Roquelaure apparently does, and so for me many sections of this trilogy rather dragged. Nevertheless there are some delightful vignettes amongst the formulaic "x spanked y / y paddled x" scenes. It's worth reading, but not the best erotica, or even the best s&m erotica I've ever read. If the best ten chapters were picked out into an anthology, or if the same story were told in fewer pages I would like it much more.
Rating: Summary: Captivating Review: I began reading these books and had them done in less than a week. What an amazing twist on the fairy tale. I couldn't put them down. Anne Rice draws you in to the story in a way that I have never been before. She shows the true beauty in the art of submission. I am a active submissive and would recommend these books to anyone interested in the S&M world. Anne Rice has written the emotion, fear, love, and devotion so well. She is now on the top of my favorite author's list.
Rating: Summary: Extremely Exciting Review: I heard of the Sleeping Beauty Trilogy from a friend, and didn't think much of it. But when i read it I couldn't put it down. I also read some to my husband who got extremely turned on. We both found the trilogy very exciting and erotic. To read these books you must have an open mind; it makes the words on the page jump out at you, to the point where you can feel them. I hope to read more erotic stories that are written in the same fashion, by Anne Rice. She makes the books come alive!
Rating: Summary: disappointed Review: as a fan of erotic literature, esp by women, i found this lacking. i guess if it had been rated for s/m i would have been more prepared for what i purchased. this wasn't even enjoyable s/m...........too damn much "spanking" no character development, same scenes over and over again. i had hoped that anne's writing at this point was as excellent as it was with her first vampire books.....they became disappointing as she continued. i will not belabored the point with: hmmmm, what was anne's life as a child, etc. i will just close with it's not to my taste as erotic literature. c'est la vie
Rating: Summary: Very, Very Erotic Review: I won't even try to summarize the trilogy, but I borrowed the books from a friend (and never gave them back...), and have read them all twice each. While I am not a huge fan of Anne Rice (I read Interview with the Vampire and that's it), this was such a well-written trilogy of erotica that I was stunned. Pleasure and pain blur together, and these books are *not* for the faint of heart looking for vanilla romance (I can recommend a few of those, too).
