Rating: Summary: The World of the Darkly Erotic Review: For those of you who are Anne Rice fans, this book is something out of her ordinary completely. Her enthralling and captivating writing style is still very present within the text of this tasteful erotic classic. The world she presents to the reader is a touchy one and at times takes very sudden twists. It keeps the mind absorbed in the thoughts of "Is it wrong for people to do and think such things?"...The answer for me was a resounding no. This book opened a different world for me truly. Beauty's unknown desire for pain to achieve pleasure is something I relate very well to and I applaude Mrs. Rice for her accomplishment of describing that inner turmoil. Not for the conservative reader by any means but for the sexually liberal and those of the S&M world...This book is just for you.
Rating: Summary: If you've ever thought about sex... Review: To those of you who say that this book is no good, you have got to be conservative and ordinary. The truth is, Anne Rice writes her heart out in this trilogy, making the taboo and extraordinary seem plausible and, oddly enough, exciting. After every reading session, I was completely "in the mood" (and I'm not talking about the Glenn Miller song). If you are open-minded and not afraid to admit what turns you on, you should SOOO read these books. However, if you are a child trapped in the body of an adult, go ahead and get another playboy, because chances are, these books will be a little too 8th grade reading level for you and there aren't pictures.
Rating: Summary: Not at all Erotic Review: I am an avid reader and an erotica fan, and was delighted when I got the first book of the triology as a gift. However, I cannot even force myself to read past the first few chapters because it is all the same. Personally, spanking does not turn me on, so maybe if does you it might be more enjoyable. This book might get better as it goes on, but based on the other reviews and my lack of patience, I don't know if I'll keep reading to find out.
Rating: Summary: Err Um.. It was different Review: Ok, let me start by saying the book was different from anything else i'd ever read. I didn't quite understand it as far as the pleasure these characters received from pain. It was weird to me. Some parts were erotic to me but mostly i just kept reading for the story to see what was going to happen next, to beauty, as far as the places she was going to go and i guess hoping she would be able to escape these people hurting her and live happily ever after. Well there was a twist on the whole happily ever after theme. I think i probably didn't get too much into it cause i'm not really into the whole S&M scene. But if that's your kinda bag baby then i'm sure you will LOVE this book.
Rating: Summary: Ok, but unimaginitive. Review: If you read the first book, you have pretty much read all three. Unfortunately, I went out and bought the box set. I read the first book, and it was ok... not very imaginitive or erotic if you ask me, but the goal was for the author to write down her own fantasies, not mine. When I finished the first book and moved on to the second... I thought I was reading a carbon copy of the first. The only real difference in the books is the location where they take place. The third book is different than the other two, and two me the best and most erotic of the three, but again... It wasn't as imaginitive or thrilling as I had hoped.
Rating: Summary: Hard to define... Review: I didn't know what to expect with this trilogy, and what I got, wasn't what I thought it would be. This tale is interesting, sometimes disturbing, sometimes touching and always erotic. The love/hate here knows no bounds between gender, age or race. There are some fascinating observations about human behavior, emotions and what lies deep inside each one of us. I've never read anything quite like this book and probably never will again. I recommend it just for curiosity of it all.
Rating: Summary: Less is More Review: Being an avid Ann Rice fan (and interested in tasteful erotica, if there is such a thing), I was eager to read these when lent them by a friend. I found them quite 'hot' in places, but an unrelieved diet of any kind of sex, however creative or kinky, quickly turns rather silly, wildly funny, and then simply boring (when you get the giggles, you know the party's over). The trilogy would have been a real page-turner (not to mention a re-read) if it had been condensed into one volume. However, hats off to Ann Rice anyway: her "straight" novels are more erotic than "Beauty" anyway.
Rating: Summary: You just can't help yourself... Review: I found that in reading these books while in college, I was not exactly offended, but rather disturbed by what I'd read and strangely excited...probably much like the Beauty in the book *grin* however, the S&M scenes, which were many, while they didn't do much for me in the erotic sense, reminded me of an accident scene on the side of the highway...you just can't help but look. You're looking for what is forbidden and what you shouldn't see...but when you do, oh the rush! That's what these books are...the rush...so leave your brain at the door and enjoy the rush...it's worth it!
Rating: Summary: These were just utter crap Review: There's good erotica and there is bad erotica and then there is good bad errotica, which is just campy and fun. This is bad. Poorly written. Uninteresting. Not even exciting, unless you are into misogyny, in which case, you'll love this.
Rating: Summary: Worth reading but long Review: Maybe it is an intended perception to portray the master-slave relationship, but Beauty doesn't seem real. Yes, she is beautiful in description and it is easy enough to develop a mental picture of her, as well as her surroundings, but as she doesn't make many decisions on her own or speak very much, it's hard to form any sort of attachment to her. Additionally, some of the scenes tend to be redundant.Still, as long as you're not remotely offended by sexual material, they're worth it.
