Summary: Sleeping Beauty Awakens
Review: Sleeping Beauty awakens to find Prince Charming is taking her to his castle not to make her his wife but take her through an adventure which makes her subject to the whims of the countless inhabitants of his castle. Her adventures continue when she visits the local village in the second novel and is abducted and taken to a Sultan's castle in the third. But in the end her greatest adventure is finding true love.

I read all three of Ann Rice's Sleeping Beauty novel's, and almost every other book she's ever written. I loved her other books because of the sensual, erotic way in which she writes. When I bought the trilogy, I never imagined I would encounter the best erotic fiction I have ever read. I loved the Trilogy. I would highly recommend it to anyone with an open mind, however if you are not, then read at your own risk.

Summary: Has its good and bad points
Review: I read this a few years ago. The whole series. My main issue with it is that I truly do not think there was enough there for a series. I think this would have been better story telling as one book. Thinking back I see the books were meant to be a progression of the heroine...from sleeping, okay comatose, heroine... to strong, self aware sexually mature woman. I think the fault there was that the *growth* experiences became repetative. What seemed erotic and totally shocking at the beginning became more of the same to *slug* thru...

The premise was pretty interesting as I like retelling of fairytales, with a twist. And this retelling was particularly twisted... As with all fairy tales, there was little introspection on the part of the *players*, they are more there as props to get accross a point than they are actual people... little insight into them...or if there is it takes a long time to get there. Perhaps that is why it took 3 books for the growth to occur, I'm not sure.

Another problem I had was the switching between *voices*...at some times the story is told by one character and other times another... I'm not sure, since the end result of the story was to be the growth of one character, why there was all of this point of view changing. I found it intrusive to the story.

All that said, this is clearly a frank, graphic and meant to be erotic, if not shocking story. The story sometimes gets lost in the endless bd/sm scenes... altho that may be a plus for some. But honestly even erotica loses it punch and gets repititious when over done... Another reason I think this would have been a better, tighter, smoother read as one book.

If you wish to take a *glimpse* on the wild side this may be an interesting read. If you are easily (or maybe even ot so easily) shocked, steer clear. The sexual nature of this book begins at the beginning and continues all the way thru.

Summary: As always, Rice captivates!
Review: I am a huge Anne Rice fan and of course the most of us have atleast heard of her alias writing names. So I had heard of this set of erotic tales she had written but could never get my hands on them. Finally I got the trilogy and I could NOT put these books down! Then once I was finished with the last page of the last book, I wanted more!! Anne Rice can take anything and make it sensual. These books are a great and intrigueing read, for a wide audience, even if you're not necessarily into BDSM or that type of thing. Though they are probably not for the weak hearted. But they sure are mind-opening to those who can handle something different than the boring missionary-ness of her our lives and sex-lives. Definate recommendation! Enjoy!!

Summary: Erotica A La Anne
Review: Many years ago, as rumor has it, Anne Rice set out to prove that the world of erotica was not limited to male writers. It was her contention, so the story goes, that a women could contribute to this genre just as well, if not better.

And so, under the pen name A. N. Roquelaure, Anne created a trilogy of intense sado-masochistic erotic novels loosely based on the fairytale "Sleeping Beauty."

To say that these books are overwhelmingly intense is not to state the case. It is possible to read them without having a predeliction toward the acts that are graphically described on almost every page, but be warned that Anne, aka Roquelaure, pulls no punches, and there is absolutely nothing subtle or hinted at in these books.

Like everything Anne wrote before "Memnoch the Devil," the Beauty Chronicles are works of genius, in my opinion. They contain the same richness, the same historical detail, the same darkness as all of her later books to come, including her chronicles of the witches, and the vampires. I am not a regular reader of such novels, so I cannot compare them to others of the genre, but I venture to say that these books have to stand out as unique at the least, mind-blowing at the most.

It is easy to understand the deep eroticism of Rice's witch and vampire books after sampling the Beauty chronicles. For many many years, I imagined Rice as a veritable cauldron of bubbling thoughts, erotic and otherwise, sane and otherwise, struggling to break free. These three books seem to prove the point, which is why I can view them as more than trash.

Anne knew what she was doing, and she did it, as only she can, in a spectacular manner. Again, be warned: If you are going to read the Beauty Chronicles, expect pure, savage erotica, with nothing hidden or explained away. I read these novels to gain more insight into what makes Rice tick. I did not come away unshocked or unscathed, but I certainly read her later works with a new understanding.

Summary: An Erotic Tale of Growth and Discovery
Review: I had received the trilogy as a birthday gift. I do enjoy the fantasy world of Anne Rice and this is no acception. The reader gets to enjoy with the main characters how they grow not only sexually but also emotionally. Some reviewers I've read got so hung up the repetion of some of the action that they miss the point. So read and enjoy the series.

Summary: Imaginative
Review: This collection of books grabs you from the beginning and doesn't let you go. Even when you have finished the third book, you crave for more. I give this book the highest recommendations possible, being one of Anne Rice's best collections possible. It seems to be the culmination of her writing career, branching out into other genre`s and succeeding at it.

Summary: The Truth is That . . .
Review: The Truth is that the vampire chronicles are sexier. There are some good parts in this, but the "unreality" of it ultimately breaks the spell. This was among the first of the "O" imitators to branch out into "safe," or "tame," traditions that became routine in this type of writing. This is among the first of the less than brave, less than shocking BDSM books. This is the first of the cliches. They knew what they were doing, they knew what turned us on, they knew what we would buy, so they abandoned art and originality and honesty in their depictions of canned brutality. This is among the first of the "formula," or "idea" BDSM books.

Summary: A stunning read...
Review: When I purchased the Trilogy of Sleeping Beauty, I had no idea what I was getting myself into. I was previously aware that this was a work of erotic fiction, but nothing could have prepared me for the pornogrphic assault beheld within the pages.

Beautifully written, and undeniably among Rice's best work, the story challenges ideals previously set on love, sexuality, human nature, and the human will. It is easy to assume from the first few pages of The Claiming of Sleeping Beauty that you've got nothing but explicit sex and cruelty to look forward to, but the story spins & weaves itself into something much, much deeper that will leave a lasting impression on you. Before you know it, it will be a pain to put the book down.

Summary: Amazing Series
Review: I began reading this book in Barnes and Noble after reading a review on this website recommending it. I had hoped to explore more about the book before I bought it. At first, I was a little disturbed with Sleeping Beauty being degraded, but soon after I was hooked. This book is truly a work of art that inspired me to keep reading books of this nature. This book was erotic and a wonderful read. I highly reccommend it.
