Rating: Summary: Vampires By the Numbers Review: Collecting the first 6 issues of the successful Cliffhanger comic, Crimson - Loyalty and Loss assembles Brian Augustyn, a story teller with an almost Josh Whedon Buffy-esque type ability to tell a mythic tale with a sense of sarcasm and humour, and Humberto Ramos, a penciller with the cartoonic bounce and volume of a Joe Madurieira circa Uncanny X-Men. And therein lies the problem, unlike other writers tackling the Vampire genre (and we've seen alot of movies, television and comics on the topic over the last few years) Augustyn fails to give us some real edge or conversely some unbridled fun in this, the first of 4 Crimson trade paperbacks. I couldn't shake the feeling reading this book that it tries to do too much and ends up doing a little less. Ramos pencils though I cant fall they are accessible and add alot to the feel of the story. Alex, a teenager riddled with teen angst gets bitten one night out with his friends only to later disocer he is not only a vampire but THE chosen one with a special place to play in the battle of good and evil. The cliffhanger endings at the end of each of the six issues would suit perfectly in an issue by issue basis, but here seeing Alex get into a perilous situation only to get out of it without too much fuss diffuses all the climax building, the story arc is a little start-stop, and at times you kinda see the joke/peril/quip two panels ahead. If I sound negative about the book, its because I expected great and I got good. Ramos creates some visually fun characters, and there is alot more spark here than most other books on the market, but in the end this is a decent book and it could have been stellar.
Rating: Summary: This comic definitely rocks! Review: CRIMSON: Loyalty and Loss is an astounding first volume in this continuing series about a young vampire who is still familiarizing himself with undeadliness =] The art is really cool--and there are a couple of bodacious babes--and, coupled with a refreshing view of vampires, it makes for one fantastic read. This is a must for anyone craving a new vein in an old genre... (pun intended!)
Rating: Summary: Wow.... Review: I didn't know what to expect when I picked up this book. But I was nearly surprised by the incredible amount of emotion and bloodlust in there! The nice variety of characters and setting is astounding! Gotta love Joe!
Rating: Summary: Explosive Start to a Wondrous Series Review: I tell you what. Little in life will be this good. Pick up this book as soon as humanly possible. Seriously, this book is of the highest quality, easily rivaling most novels. It is deep and complex yet not preachy or boring. Looking for action? Tons of it. Tragedy? He's a vampire for crying out loud. Humor? On every page. Serious storytelling? Still, every page. Then, when you are done with this one, get the rest of them. They all rock.
Rating: Summary: One of my fav series ^^ Review: I'm a fan of x-men comics, and Japanese manga. Usually I don't even bother with other series, however, while reading a PSM magazine in which one of the illustrators of Crimson had drawn the cover for, I discovered an ad for the comic. Finding that it was about vampires I decided to give it a try, being the vampire lover that I am. ^^ I found myself completely absorbed into the story and loving every minute of it. I'm sure anyone who reads this series will also feel this way. ^_~

Rating: Summary: not very good... Review: I'm not sure if I read the same book as these other reviewers. The plot is sub-Anne Rice drivel about vampires that dress and act like Marvel superheroes, Humberto Ramos' art is a grusome cross between manga style and Rob Liefield, and Brian Augustyn's script reads like Chris Clarmont on crack. All the chracters are always introducing themselves by exclaiming their inner angst as loudly as possible, usually in some cutely spelled comic book "accent". Uhgg... this is all the stuff that embarasses me when I try to show someone that there really are graphic novels worth reading. Give this a pass.

Rating: Summary: It would be hard to find a better read than this. Review: I've been a comic book/graphic novel fan for over 15 years, and the Crimson series is definitely among my top five favorites of all time. Ironically, I bought this book by impulse ... but when I opened it up and started reading, I simply couldn't put it down. The basic storyline is that a young boy (name of Alex Elder) gets attacked by vampires and almost dies, but he is saved by an ancient vampire named Eskimus, who believes Alex is a chosen one of great, untapped power. What Alex isn't told, however, is that he's only the latest in a long line of "Chosen." All the others have either been killed or turned to evil and became demonic henchmen to the vampire queen Lisseth. This book (and the ones that follow it) are Alex's story and his battle with the darkness inside him. The artwork is unbelievably good, and the writing and dialogue simply blew my mind. It's amazing the amount of emotion one feels for young Alex and his situation. He can never return to his family, his girlfriend is... well, you'll find out (I don't want to spoil it) :), and he's trying to survive in a life and a city that are quickly spinning out of control. This is a fantastic read for any fan of the vampire comic genre. The other volumes in the series keep the story going strong, so you're guaranteed an ongoing, involving tale. It's a purchase that's well worth the money.
Rating: Summary: Someone Get That Penciller a Nude Model! Review: Mediocre story; continues the long tradition of Wildstorm and Image artists who have clearly never seen a naked lady before. This comic has some of the most ludicrous anatomy I have ever seen, as though Rob Liefeld and Marc Silvestri taught a class in figure drawing and gave A's to anyone who showed up. Terrible.
