Rating: Summary: Absolutely Phenomenal. Review: Having read my fair share of comic books, I can honestly say that this is by far the best I have ever read. The writing is wonderfully sick, the art is graphic and yet touching, and the stories are beyond belief. BUY THESE BOOKS.
Rating: Summary: Wow. Review: Not only does Ennis write an incredible story, but his words are perfectly complemented by the incredible but realistic art of Dillon. Probably the best comics I have ever read.
Rating: Summary: THe most entertaining book ive ever read Review: This book has quoted at the top, more fun than going to the movies and honestly it is. IT was fun, hilaiorious and clever. comics at comics best. on a scalr from 1 to 8 i give it 12.
Rating: Summary: Fantastic start! Review: Gone to Texas is where the Preacher series starts and although the plot is pretty intense at times, Ennis makes sure that the reader doesn't drop out early. This book is one dynamite blast. It rocks in every aspect. The dialog is witty and fast paced, action fluid and very nicely 'coreographed'. This book also has some good amount of foreshadowing if you are looking forward on reading 'ancient history' and founding out that some stuff said in 'gone to texas' isn't just a figure of speech after all ;) Our friends aren't involved in the action as much as you'd like, but that goes with the territory when the plot is being established. Saint of Killers makes a pretty neat entrance and the scene with Sheriff Root and Saint of Killers meeting for the first time is a blast "Figure you got yourself some guns in them belts, boy." - "Yeah, but you don't look to me like the man who'll take 'em." *Bang*
Rating: Summary: Neil Gaiman he ain't! Review: This book kept showing up as a recommendation whenever I bought a Neil Gaiman book, but I was a bit disappointed when I finally broke down and ordered it, and saw what it's really like. Where Gaiman uses brilliant dialog and historical/literary references, Ennis just blasts you in the face with continual violence and freakish, mean-spirited gross-outs. There's some nasty, heavy stuff in here that starts to become more sickening than shocking after a while, and if it weren't for the occasional clever joke and the excellent graphics, I would've thrown this book in the trash. So: if you're looking for a twisted thrill-ride of a reading experience, I recommend "Preacher: Gone to Texas" without hesitation. But if you want true graphic-novel genius, you should search elsewhere -- Gaiman's entire oeuvre, for instance.
Rating: Summary: THIS BOOK WAS COMPLETELY AMAZING IT WAS PERFECT Review: This book completely blew me away. With Ennis' dark humor and completely intruiging storyline with a bit of mystery involved it was the perfect complement to Dillon's grotesque yet completely wonderfull and highly detailed astonishing artwork. It was completely different from anything I had EVER read or expected. The fight scenes were scripted perfectly and drawn even better. And with the Recerend's amazing "Word Of God" he makes a formidable opponent for the Hulk or Super-Man and would probably defeat them. But I would also like to pay homage to cover artist Glenn Fabry for his wonderfully detailed and gruesome covers. On closing I would like to say that this is the BEST book of any kind that I have EVER read.
Rating: Summary: PREACHER renews my faith in comics Review: If I could give more than 5 stars, I would. PREACHER may be the best comic book series ever (keeping in mind that the classic WATCHEMEN was only a mini-series). Anyone who hasn't read this yet, !!PLEASE!! do so soon. PREACHER is funny and scary, off-the-wall and down to earth, irreverant and faithful all at once.
Rating: Summary: "It was the time of the Preacher" Review: Ladies and gentlemen, I will keep this short. Put simply this is the Book you all must read. Now! Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon have created possibly the best comic characters since Batman and Superman. So read this right now. "Now the Preachin' is over, and the lesson's begun"
Rating: Summary: WOW, YOU MUST READ THIS!!!!! Review: This is a great story with great characters. The villans are incredible, and so are the heros. If you pass this up you're losing out on a story so great you can't imagine it. i left this at home when i came to college, and it's so good i have to go home to get it because i need to read it again.
Rating: Summary: PREACHER is offensive, controversial, & violent. I LOVE it!! Review: This collection of Vertigo's PREACHER title is simply the best book I have read in years. It has fascinating characters, a REAL plotline, and the guts to throw in "realistic" violence, sex, and substance abuse <here's to Cassidy>. Fans of dark humor, profanity, guns, and suspense will enjoy this book immensely.
