Summary: Fantastic art, but the writing is sadly lacking.
Review: The art is brilliant, no question. Moody and frightening, if you pasted a page on the wall above your bed you'd probably get nightmares for three days straight.

The writing, however, is another story. After building the tension in a great set-up -- vampires come to an Alaskan town where the sun won't rise for another 30 days -- the writer throws it all out the window. "And then the feeding began..." And instead of a tightly-wound scary story we get a montage, and jump ahead to suddenly find our heroes holed up and hiding. Where are the moments of fear? Or scenes that fill you with dread over what horror might transpire next? It feels like the writer couldn't be bothered to think up the twists and turns of an actual story, and instead just cut to the gore.

Sadly, it's a pattern repeated throughout. It all seems just lazy, and a few unexplained plot devices (How did all them cell phones get stolen, anyway?), a dead-ended story thread, and some moments of klunky dialogue don't help, either.

If the cover blurb hadn't screamed how brilliantly frightening this was all supposed to be, it might not seem like such a let down. There are some genuinely great elements to this story. Yes, it's cool. It just needed some more thought and care in putting them together.

Oh, but the art is fatnstic! If you're a horror art junkie, you won't be let down.

Summary: Great concept, blah execution
Review: The concept -- vampires descending on an Alaska town that doesn't see the sun for an entire month each year -- is great. The art is moody and scary and well-done. The treatment of vampires as just plain evil, without any Anne Rice angst, is refreshing.

Unfortunately, the execution of the story quickly becomes very same-old, same-old, with the humans on the run from the vampires. Other than the initial premise, there's nothing here that hasn't been done before, more compellingly.

It's worth borrowing someone else's copy, but I can't recommend buying this one. If you like horror comics, spend your money on Alan Moore's "From Hell" instead.

Summary: Most Disappointing Book of the Year
Review: The plot is little more than a rehashed "Night of the Living Dead," with the main difference ostensibly being that it is supposed to take place over the space of a whole month. Unfortunately, the book is poorly paced and, if not for the title, you would think the story took place over the space of a few hours. Key scenes are glossed over or summarized by the narration, making this read like an excerpt, not a full book,. As for characters, only the sheriff is given a backstory that makes him seem like anything other than "vampire fodder." Skip this book and wait for the promised movie. Hopefully, a new scriptwriter will cure the flaws.

Summary: Disappointing
Review: The story is cliche ridden, the characters are flat and the artwork is murky. It's like something put together by talented highschool kids.

Summary: Best comic in a long time!
Review: This is a must have! A really great story with art that fits PERFECTLY. It's dark, gloomy, and really cool! Rarely does a story come along that's as enjoyable as this. Plus all of the extra's guarentee satisfaction. You can't go wrong! You now have the utmost recomendation from me.

Summary: gorefest
Review: unusual artwork for such a comic, but it worked to benefit the comic. the muddy watercolor adds to the realism that this story is supposed to be only during the night. you know how crappy your vision is during the night, well this was about the best comic i've seen done at night. as for the story, straightfoward with no plot twists, got to love it. they didn't spare anybody's feelings creating this story by making an all out character developement. some surprise to where one of the characters infected himself to help the others. these creatures seem to be the vagabond creatures that anne rice hints on during her stories, the ones who believe they are a satanic cult. the way they just tear apart their prey, they are just looking to scare their prey before destroying them. that's the best part of this horror story.

Summary: An excellent thriller!
Review: When I bought this I had heard all the hype about it but I was skeptical. I usually don't find horror comics that creepy but Templesmith's art is phenominal. The book is more than just an interesting vampire tale though. Its about survival and thats where the story really gets terrifying. The ending is one of the most touching things I've ever read in a comic. This is a must for any serious comic fan!

Summary: Could've been, should've been better
Review: With an idea as good as this book had, this graphic novel(not comic book people) should've been a lot better than it is. But as it is, its an enjoyable read nonetheless.

The story is simple: A group of vampires come to a small town in ALaska where it is night for thirty days. Mayhem ensues.

The plot is an interesting take on the vampire sage that these days has been riddled with triteness and cliches. But sadly, the book never is really able to get over those cliches itself.

My biggest problem with this book is the ending, which, lets all be honest, is the biggest cop-out in recent memory. THe first two issues are smart and suspenseful, but when it comes time for a conclusion, it seems as though the writer jsut said screw it, lets finish it up quickly now lads. I hope thats not the case, but thats how it feels.

All throughout the artwork, however, is great. It is a little murky, but thats point. This isn't a Marvel Comic, full of easy pictures, but rather a creative looking book.

"30 Days of Night" is a good read in the end, even it does dissapoint immensly in the end. Get it, but don't expect a whole lot out of it either.

Summary: The best comic of the year
Review: Yes, I liked it a lot. A friend of mine passed me a copy but as I don't like vampire stories I had on my table a couple of weeks. Finally I decided to have a look on it and I couldn't drop it until I read all the story. I love the end and I think that the art fits perfectly in the atmosphere of the tale. I recommend this book to all the good comic readers. I think that it will become a classic, only compared with the great books of the last decades, like Watchmen, V for Vendetta, Batman Dark Knight and so on.
