Rating: Summary: Review thingy Review: This volume sets an alluring debut as a first graphic novel in the series. Kohta Hirano utilizes stunning art and a great storyline that leaves you coming back for more. The religious implications - if a bit blasphemous (if it bothers you) - add a very in-depth theological aspect that makes it much deeper than a run-of-the-muck vampire story or graphic novel. It becomes much richer in the human psyche. The mini-story at the end ("Crossfire" ...I think. '_';) also incorporates the awesome art and storyline. This book is totally worth the money and so the rest of the series is incredible also. Buy it!! You will love it!! ^_____^
Rating: Summary: But first, the manga! Review: At first, I saw the Hellsing series on DVD. But when I heard it had originated from a mamga, I knew I'd be in for something good. And here's the first volume. It is a combination of funny, witty, bloody and definitely cool. I could stop talkin about it for weeks. Definetly one to buy.
Rating: Summary: Crushingly bad translation Review: Hellsing is a fun manga for teen and older readers who can handle the violence and mature themes. The art is vivid and stories are engaging, and given the success of the anime outside of Japan, the manga is an excellent candidate for localization. Unfortunately, this translation is terrible. Someone felt the need to "punch it up" and thoroughly Americanize it, thereby divesting the work of all charm and context. Characters come across as interchangeable morons, except for Anderson, who comes across as a Scottish moron. You'll find yourself longing for pages blessedly devoid of text. There are at least half a dozen fan translations on the web that capture the flavor of the original, so it's not an impossible task to do it right; the publisher just blew it.I give it a bonus star since you can buy the book for the art and then use the fan site of your choice for the text, but you're really better off getting the original Japanese version to avoid the distracting blather.

Rating: Summary: Hellsing - a winner Review: HEllsing was the first anime video that I saw, it was the gateway to my anime viewing experience. Once I finished the series on DVD I was looking around for a "season 2" when I found out that there series was based on comic books. I went to a store and bought vol 1 and read through it really fast. It draws you in and entertains you, and keeps you in suspence with its great illustrations and dialog. The irish and germans in the story are noticed as their accents just jump of the page at you. COnsequently I bought vol 2 + 3 and I am eagerly waiting for volumes 4, 5,6 and however more there might be in the works If you are new to manga comics this might be a bit of a learning curve (as it was for me) but I did not mind as I was quite entertained. Kudos to the author and the team that brought it to us in english!

Rating: Summary: Going to the Roots of the Anime.... Review: Honestly, if you liked the animated version of Hellsing, don't hold yourself back in buying the manga. The story dives much deeper, explaining some of the unexplained details in the anime, in the backgrounds of characters or something more basic like what constitutes a vampire. Leaving behind Incognito, the manga goes instead into the Millenium Organization, Nazis, Section XIII, much more.... As for this first volume, here's my judging of it. Although the artwork seems crude and a little exaggerated at this point, it quickly develops itself even as you turn the pages, and in following volumes. However, being a bit more humorous than the anime, this allows to reader to never take it way too seriously, but instead enjoy it from a general aspect without looking at everything with a microscope. The translation seems faithful enough, and although Anderson's "accent" manifestation was a little annoying to read at first, it gives a better hint to his character. Everything else works out well. I fully reccomend this to the fans of the anime, and even give a little nudge to those who didn't find themselves ecstatic with the anime.
Rating: Summary: Beautiful Art with an Original Storyline! Review: I first came along Hellsing in the anime series, and I absolutely loved it. It was interesting and original, with wonderful animation and drawings. So, naturally, when I heard that the anime was once first a manga, I went out and bought it. The money was well spent. The manga goes a little differently than the anime, but if you've never seen the anime, then there's no problem. Basically, if you like vampires, guns, and cold-hard fighting with no romance, this is definitely for you. It's fast-paced with an interesting storyline, so get comfy and enjoy.
Rating: Summary: If you liked the anime... Review: I saw the anime series recently, and liked it.BESIDES THE FACT I ORDERED A ---NEW--- BOX SET FROM THIS SITE AND THE DISKS CAME SCRATCHED UP,LOOSE,AND OBVIOUSLY USED.Thanks alot, Amazon. -_-0 Anyway,I decided to get the manga after listening to some of the interviews on a DVD.quite frankly,I like the manga as much as the anime. It lacks the character development of the anime, but it never takes itself too seriously. It has some details that the anime never goes into, such as what determines who's turned into a ghoul or vampire. There's a neat bonus comic that's amusing in its own right. And the note from the author's kinda funny too.(cosmo guns that hold a billion rounds...)Nice job,Dark Horse.
Rating: Summary: A night for sucking blood Review: I'm niether a big fan of anime or manga. However I am a big fan of vampires!
Now while the Hellsing DVD may have the beautiful colors to look at, it lacks the fine details the manga shows. The DVD does not say how exactly you become a 'child of the dark'- but in the manga it goes into more detail! You have to be a virgin and of oppisite sex of vampire. It's the details like that that make the manga much more enjoyable than the DVD series.
The manga is a bit lighter too- Integra is not the complete cold hearted woman she is in the DVD.
You may have a bit of trouble trying to understand Anderson's accent though. I know I did. Trying to make out what he was saying. I found myself reading it out loud to better understand what he was getting across.
The drawings are dark and creepy-perfect for a vampire manga! I enjoyed the character designs and the attention put to each frame.
4 stars out of 5 from me.
