Rating: Summary: So bizarre yet so funny.... I can never put it down! Review: Well it all began one day while hanging out with my friend and my local Brave New World comic book store.... I found this among the other goth comics, so I started reading, and right then I knew I was hooked. Johnny is this weird, homicidal guy who likes to kill people he either just meets or people he's hated for a while. It seems like he has almost new rules against his killing, either! Johnny is just an intereting character because he just IS. Well, for the past two months I've been going in the comic book store and reading it, and just yesterday I was told to leave because I'm "not allowed to read the whole thing in the store". I can't buy it because I all ready knew if my parents found it they'd burn it. Still, I love this series, and when I move out I'm buying it lol.
Rating: Summary: To the people who think it's just murder: Try Reading! Review: I'm not a big fan of violence... wait yes I am but that's not the point. This is an intellegent life changer. It changed my life. Idiots(goths) think this book is all about suicide and homicide and write Jhonen about how f*cked up they are. I understand Jhonen's reason for this. He wants to rid the world of idiotcy and he clearly states that Johnny is not a role model. So, idiots(once again, I'm talking to the goths who thinks buying $70 pants makes you something), put down the knife and let go of grandma. Johnny's a lot better than Squee. I am just a 15 year old goth/gangsta/skater basher. Bye.
Rating: Summary: A Must Have For Anyone With A Disgust For Idiots Review: This comic has so much guts (literally). Vasquez isn't afraid to write what a lot of people think. Who hasn't wanted to kill some one because they were so utterly stupid? The way Johnny goes all out on anyone who asks for it (though I'm not suggesting murder is the answer) is so, dare I say it, up-lifting. Finally a character that is honest enough to do away with the common jerk. These are such good stories to read when you have let's say: been insulted by a stranger for dressing the way you do... or been in a movie theater, watching your favorite movie, only to have it ruined by an ignorant chatter-box sitting two seats away. Plus, Vasquez has a real talent for illustration and his sort- of, Tim-Burton-like style is not only graphic and disturbing, but very well drawn and in a way, extremely graceful. This book will make you laugh and laugh, over and over again, but only if you realize that it is supposed to be funny, not real. I would not recommend this to anyone who is interested in Vasquez's work because they are riding on their liking for Invader Zim. The content is very adult-rated and to some one too young, probably upsetting. However, if you enjoy dark humor, and I mean dark, this is Vasquez at his darkest, and in my personal opinion, at his best.
Rating: Summary: A Disturbing/Disgusting Disappointment Review: I love Invader Zim, so I thought I would give Johnen Vasquez's comic book a try. This comic book is nothing like the darkly funny cartoon I have enjoyed so much. Who would actually read such a thing? People who think animal cruelty is actually funny? Johnny talks to a dead bunny that he bought from a feed store, fed once, and then nailed to the wall - presumably while it was still alive. If you think that's good entertainment, then I am certainly concerned.
Rating: Summary: Ohh yes. YES!!! Review: This book is the coolest, most disturbing, interesting, thought provoking, hilarious, sad, WACKY, best drawn comic book that was ever made. You are about to read Johnny the Homicidal Maniac! It's about a dude named Johnny C. His past is "like a picture printed on wet toilet paper", not very clear at all. The only thing we're sure of is that somehow he managed to turn himself into a homicidal maniac. He has two "doughboys" that are maniacs as well. He's got a bunny's head nailed to his wall; this bunny serves as his pathetic counselor... Nail Bunny is the only person who convinces Johnny not to kill himself. From dating girls (and then attempting to kill them) to dying and then coming back to life, the book that is JtHM is anything but boring. A must buy if: You like Jhonen Vasquez, you are really disturbing, you didn't cry in My Dog Skip. Skip this if you said the opposite to any of those.
"Do keep in mind that I might be horrendously insane."
Rating: Summary: A good release Review: JTHM is the best-it's full of awesome, sorta contemporary art, and it really provides an outlet for the anger. Follow the directions given in the foreword-they work. Jhonen Vasquez is a genius with his writing and going places where many are afraid to go.
Rating: Summary: Most Wonderfully Screwed Up Book Ever Review: This book is one of the most wonderful books I have ever read. It tells a heartwarming(not really)tale of a young man named Johnny, or Nny for short. He is, as the title suggests, a homicidal maniac. Under his house, there are many secret rooms filled with various devices of torture, many of which are currently in use. He also lives next door to a small boy named Todd, more commonly Squee, who is often traumatised at Johnny's hand.
I do realise that some people may not find this book enjoyable, so do be warned before buying.
If you don't think graphic violence and language are funny, you might not like it.
If you don't think periodic Public Service Announcements with a teenage mom who eats her baby and a 15 year old boy who did so much drugs that he looks eight are funny, you might not like it.
If you don't think that small, cute, emotionally abused, horrifically traumatised children are funny, you might not like it.
If you do like that sort of thing, then I strongly suggest that you buy the book. It will bring you long hours of enjoyment. And then you can reread it and have a few more long hours of enjoyment. It's a win-win situation here, people.
Rating: Summary: Hilarious Review: Jhonen Vasquez' Johnny the Homicidal Maniac is still one of the funniest, most depraved, and excellent comics out there today. Revolving around the life of the deranged, homicidal Johnny (you can call him Nny) as he kills, maims, and pretty much does any kind of depraved act you can think of; in between drawing Happy Noodle Boy, going to see Kafka, and terrorizing his young neighbor Todd (Vasquez fans know him as Squee, and that book is worth owning as well). Filled with potshots towards goths, people who hang in coffee shops late at night, and others who "need to have a smoke", Johnny the Homicidal Maniac is still as fresh and funny today as it was when it came out a few years back, and if you've never read it and are looking for something different in comics, then you owe it to yourself to pick this up. If you dig this, pick up Squee, and check out Roman Dirge's Lenore books.
