Rating: Summary: Awesome Review: I really enjoyed this book and couldn't put it down, the ending was not what I would have liked, but you got me wanting more for the next one.
Rating: Summary: Again she left needing more Review: Laurell has the ability to keep me wanting more. You just can't get enough of Merry and I am on my toes to read the next book. Thank you so much Laurell for your talent and I hope you don't end this series I really enjoy reading them.
Rating: Summary: What a waste Review: I've tried to hang on through the second book and was barely able to make it through this one. It seems the more Ms. Hamilton writes about the character and her environment, the less she really has to say. The majority of the book can be reduced to a "his eyes were the color of ____ ...the outer layer was this color, the inner layer was this color, AND then some magic happens. And now his eyes are the color of _____ ... the outer layer was this color, the inner layer was this color, AND then some magic happens and so on". By taking out the extensive descriptions of the people, their hair, their skin, the tri-colored eyes, the way they move, their power, the rules she has to follow in order to "survive", endless references to what had happened to someone in the past, behavioral characteristics that really don't matter (pouting for example)...you end up with a book that has less than 2 to three pages of good stuff. Truly, I don't care about the sex. If I needed that, I could always go back to the earlier Anita Blake books (better written and easier to follow). But I do care about the direction that Ms. Hamilton is going. The last two Anita Blake books were ok...but the last one was unreadable. Is this a trend? Has she hit that fictional brick wall? Has the well truly run dry?
Rating: Summary: A good follow up Review: ...over all this was a good book. Maybe not as great as the first 2 but the story goes right along where the last one left off. You have to keep in mind that this is a series and that means some of the questions didn't get answered this time around. Which means I have to wait for the next one. ...fans of Ms. Hamilton know that all her books have a lot of sex in them. and lets face it, some of us enjoy reading them for just that reason. So I have to say over all the book was well worth the money and I hope she keeps them coming.
Rating: Summary: if you like this sort of thing ... Review: i can't really add much to what the other less-than-positive reviewers have said. i'm not sure which is worse -- the sex in the previous books or the gore in this one. there's way too much description of the chippendale-model men with the ridiculous outfits and hair and eyes, all of whom are attracted to merry (who now apparently channels a goddess). i think what i like about the books is that they amuse me; they are clearly wish-fulfillment for the author, so i keep reading them.
Rating: Summary: Ms. Hamilton has done it again Review: First off - it took me less than 24 hours to finish this book!! I love Laurell Hamilton's writing style and found this one to be true to her abilities! I love Merry Gentry and all her hunky men! How in the world could she ever choose just one of those gorgeous guys? This part of Merry's story takes place at the Unseelie Court and her Aunt - the Queen of Darkness - has quite a reception planned for Merry. But she's not the only one. Unfortunately, the Queen has some enemies of her own who would like nothing better than to see her fall. There are several new characters introduced to the reader and many familiar ones who we have come to love (or lust after) in the previous books. The story is interesting enough to keep you glued to the book and the sex is incredibly sensual! Now, if only we didn't have to wait for sooooo long for the next installment of Merry's story!
Rating: Summary: Falls short of its expectations. Review: I have to be honest when I say that I did not read the first two books. Maybe this lack of knowledge is what leads me to not be convinced with this story. Sex, when properly placed in a storyline, is a beneficial part of making the story even better to cherish. However, I cannot help but to look at it here as more of a "filler" to drag out the story just a bit longer. Those moments could have been better used developing more the plot. If all the Sihdes are so wonderful, what is the point of having them hanging around with the unworthy humans? LKH, I hope this is just a blurb in your otherwise wonderful career. Learn from the mistakes and improve on them.
Rating: Summary: Let's talk about sex... Review: A lot of reviewers have complained that this book is low on plot and high on sex. I disagree on both counts. As far as sex goes, people who read the Merry Gentry series should realize by now that sex is a big part of it. Why complain about something you know is going to happen? Further, a girl who's trying to get pregnant kinda needs to have sex. Or so they taught us in biology. As for plot, this book is a continuation of the previous two. While it's not going to win a Pulitzer, that's not the point. One of the reasons I love this series is the characters. They're diverse, interesting and colorful and I think that they make up for the slow storytelling. So, if you don't mind sex and you enjoy a fun (but somewhat brutal) story, try this book. You will probably want to read them in order, though.
Rating: Summary: Sex...filler...sex...filler...sex...DUEL...sex...end Review: This was a let down from the other two stories in the series. In the two previous books there was actual plot. This one is just a lot of explaining about the laws of the Faerie Kind and then lots of sex but nothing else. I kept turning the pages waiting for forward story movement. And there was nothing. And Merry's life arc is coming perilously close to Anita's as she takes more people under her wing each book and gains bright new and shiny powers each book. Fine we know the Fey are very open about sex. I don't care about sex. Let everyone have sex! Just also let there be some kind of story that makes it worth my while. Where's Cel? Isn't Merry a detective? Why doesn't she solve cases? There was so much good set up in the previous books that this one sadly wastes.
Rating: Summary: where's the plot AND the sex? Review: This book goes into great detail how Merry is being used as a tool to return magic to the sidhe, one by one. Some regain their god powers (or godhead), some regain old powers, some get new powers. No one knows why except that there is some God/Godess with an agenda. When Merry returns to the Unseelie Court and survives an assasination attempt, she finds someone has sabotoged her aunt and herself and is forced to duel. Then the book is over. Huh? I like Ms. Hamilton's writing style, normally, but there wasn't even much interesting sex. After a bit of sex in the beginning there was politics and repetition and a million times when "things tightened low in her body". The only action happened after they got to court and that was only in the last few pages. It definitely makes me want to read the next book, if only to find out if something actually happens. Will she get pregnant? What will happen when Cel's punishment is over? But I was already wondering about these same things after the last book so it is safe to assume this book was a waste of time.
