Summary: Too much sex not enough story
Review: First I'll admit I like the Anita Blake series better. But I enjoyed the first two books in this series and the first two chapters in this book. Somewhere after those first chapters the story line dissapeared into Merry's sex life. It was all fluff no story. The men are beautiful, strong, magical, they haven't had sex in years, they get to have sex with Merry, we got that in the first two books - now give us a plot, action, suspense. The sex captured our interest in the first books but it's not enough to hold us for much longer. As a previous review stated, I'll check the next one out of the library before I write off Merry or spend money on it.

Summary: Need. More. Merry. Gentry. Books.
Review: The book was great! Lots of fighting, lots of cute new guys, lots of cool stuff happening. Little splashes of humor that make you laugh out loud. You also get some more really cool backstory on the history of the Faerie and the Queen's and Merry's guards. The only thing is that you get to the end and you're like: Eh? That's the end? What the hell... Where's the next book? T_T Fortunately Merry Gentry seems like a much shorter series then Anita Blake... maybe >.< I don't know for sure! I just want to have all the books so I can read the whole series at once without waiting!

Summary: Less continuity problems, please...
Review: I've always enjoyed and been a fan of Laurell K. Hamilton's novels, whether they be her Anita Blake or Meredith Gentry series. I will continue to read further novels for the wonderful characters and interesting alternate universes.

That said, I had a few problems with Seduced By Moonlight, the third (and newest) novel in the Meredith Gentry series.

For one, as someone mentioned earlier, it's mostly filler. Not a whole lot happens in this story, except for the obligatory Hamilton "formula". (Note: either Meredith or Anita can be substituted in the main character category.) This is:

1. Main character is slightly insecure but still attractive to almost everyone, be they girl or guy.
2. Main character becomes more and more powerful.
3. Main character sleeps with a lot of people, often to save them from torture or death.
4. Main character is incredibly snarky.

Add angst, a little plot, and a ton of sexual tension. Stir well.

Now, this isn't necessarily a bad thing, but don't read Seduced by Moonlight if the "formula" doesn't work for you.

As mentioned, I've always enjoyed Laurell K. Hamilton's side characters. Her ability to describe different abilities, looks, and personalities is one of her greatest talents. However, she may have introduced too many this time around. I was able to keep track, but it seemed as though LKH couldn't remember her own creations.

That leads me to my biggest problem with this novel: the continuity errors. Where was the editor? Did he/she sleep their way through this book?

For example: In one part of the book, Barinthus is carrying Merry through the snow. He's given her his jacket. A few lines later she no longer has said jacket (though she hasn't moved)!

In another scene, Usna (a side character) has stripped off all his clothes because they got wet. When Merry and Co (including Usna) reach their destination, they must walk through bitterly cold snow and wind to reach the hollow hills. LKH doesn't mention Usna on the walk in, but when everyone gets inside she again remembers that Usna was part of the group. Oddly, he's still naked. Would you walk through the snow with no protection?

One side character even gets two different names. The readers are told of one of Queen Andais's guards who was punished for seven years. His name was Whisper. Later, he's introduced as Silent. I realise the names are similar, but there is a pretty big difference.

This is just the tip of the iceberg. I actually lost count of how many errors there were. Sadly, I was "kicked out" of the story every time I caught one. It was impossible to lose myself in this novel. There is no excuse for errors like this to survive the editing process.

Hopefully someone at the publishing house will catch on and fix these problems before the paperback comes out. As it is , I can only give this book 3 stars despite my enjoyment of LKH's novels. Honestly, all things considering, I almost gave it 2.

Summary: Good fun....for about an hour
Review: The book was good, but way too short. It felt like three chapters of a longer novel. I expected more and I am pissed that I going to have to wait TWO years to get more. Get this one from the library and then buy it in paperback, that's all its worth. Hopefully Laurell is concentrating hard on Incubus Dreams, the next Anita Blake.

Summary: Good book, could have been longer
Review: This latest book in the series was good, but not great. Apart from the development of Merry's powers, not a whole lot happened. With Hamilton writing one book a year alternating between the Anita Blake and the Merry Gentry books, I would think she'd be able to write a longer book with more action and story besides Merry's interactions with the Raven's. I look forward to the next installment in two years, but really wish that with the short length of her novel's, Hamilton could crank them out a little faster.

Summary: A little more moonlight, a little less seduction
Review: Of the 3 Merry Gentry books, I liked this one the best. The first one struck me as being what fanfic writers call PWP, porn without plot. The second toned down the sex and actually gave us a story. This one starts answering some of the questions the first ones raised and gives some hope that LH actually has a plan for the series besides writing as many sex scenes as possible. But this series also shows signs of some of the flaws of the Anita Blake series, to wit, that like Anita, Merry develops these super-duper new powers when the situation would go to hell for her without them. One of her defining weaknesses (one which the average reader could readily identify with) seems to go bye-bye in this book. It's hard to take the travails of either AB or MG seriously when LH is going to pull a rabbit out of her hat every time their respectives ... get in a sling.

Summary: Where's book 4?
Review: This was a wonderful edition to the fantastic series by Hamilton. This book managed to give a good deal more history and details about the main characters and thier lives as fey, move the plot along regarding the return of many powers, have several dynamic fight scenes, and as always the spectacular love scenes. I highly recommend this book. Keep in mind this a part of a series so this is not the best one to start with. Truly well written! I can't wait for the fourth to come out!

Summary: Another Addictive Chapter to the Story
Review: I loved this book, in fact, I read it in less than a few hours and now I am bummed that I'll have to wait another year before I see the next book in the series!

Seduced by Moonlight takes place in the day leading up to and the first day of a trip to the Unseelie Court on the way to the Goblin Court and the Seelie Court. Merry and her consorts meet challenge after challenge as the powers that many had given up have returned with the killing of the Nameless from book 2. Merry herself is struggling with her own feelings of inadequacy even in the face of gaining some significant new powers, the enemies she faces are not as powerful as her own feelings that she is not enough, not pretty enough or powerful enough, not enough of anything. There is more of her relationship with the Goblins and with the demi fey, which is quite entertaining. Additionally, she ends up with quite a few new guards and consorts, one or two of which look to figure quite prominently in the next books.

This book is much more of a bridge than anything else. The story is heating up, leading to something larger and I can see how that might be frustrating to some and make them feel negatively about the book but with this book, as with any other in a series, it's about the macro story arc sometimes rather than just the instant story. With Seduced By Moonlight, it would seem that Hamilton is providing the reader with some material that will sustain through the next two books and while it's unsatisfying because I really do love these characters, it makes me want more.

Overall, I enjoyed the book immensely. Some of my favorites from book 1 came back like Sholto and Barinthus and I was happy to see that it looks as if they'll have storylines in upcoming books. I want more and I hope that Hamilton finishes the next Anita book and gives us a new chapter of Merry's life very soon!

Summary: Absolutely Awful Book!
Review: Laurell K. Hamilton has completely lost whatever talent she had. Her Anita Blake books continue to decline. And this latest Merry Gentry book is the worst. No story, no action, no plot, no personalites - nothing! Do not spend any money on this book. If you feel compelled to check it out (which I obviously did) check it out of the library! That's what I did. I vowed to never spend another dime on a Laurell Hamilton book even if I can't resist the temptation to check out her latest release. She once had a good imagination and could write a semi-decent story. Maybe she'll 'recover her power' and write another good book - someday. But this book is NOT it!

Summary: Yummy
Review: Ok, the sex was certainly hyped in this third book, but we also learn the depth of Fae lore. This book offers more than a new partner every five minutes. It offers a good dose of what is really going on, and what happened in the past. The issues of a few key characters is addressed. Merry is beginning to come into her own. Everyone from those delicious warriors to the whole darkling throng know it. We learn the lengths that she will go for alliances and just how important they are.

The end of the book made me want more, and without spoiling it, I can say that the end was heady and non-sexual.

My fiance and I do find the Merry books to be great bedtime stories. They as a whole inspire the soul, and a few other things ;-). We are in fact reading this one for the third time.
