Rating: Summary: kits wilderness review Review: Kits wilderness is a fantasy book. The story starts of when Kit Watson moves to stonygate. His ancestors all lived in stonygate too and they all worked in the pit mines. Soon after KIt moves to stonygate he meets a boy called John Askew, he introduces Kit to a dangerous game called death. In this game Kit and other children from the old familys from stonygate have to sit in a circle in a cave and Askew will spin a knife, if the knife land on you than you would go to the middle and experiance death. KIt experiances death but unlike the others he sees the dead children of the past Askew also sees these children, this is because they are both the living dead. The game of death is stoped when one of the school teachers finds out they have been playing it. Everyone blames this on Kit because it was his teacher that stoped the game. Kits problems increase when his grandad becomes ill he goes into moments when he is completly blank and lost in the past. This is worring for Kits family and they know that he will soon die. The ghost of the past come to haunt Kit, Askew and Grandpa but one of the ghost seems to be more like a gardian angel to Kit, Askew and grandpa.Silky (gardian angel)comforts Grandpa and kit when they go into there living dead moments. Kit is the central character in the novel, he's very good and kind but he gets drawn to the darkness, for example John Askew and the death game. Askew is quite a frightening figure like a caveman. He is always out walking in the wilderness and wears black all the time.Allthough Askew is frightening he has server family promlems. in the end kit and Askew stay down in the mines all night and there is a frantic search for them! Are they going to be saved or will they stay down in the mines forever!?! I recomend this book to someone who likes an adventure and a mysterious book!!!!
Rating: Summary: Kit's Wilderness Review Review: The story of kit's Wilderness is a fantasy and a adventure for Kit. The story starts off for Kit Watson when he moves to Stoneygate. He becomes friendly with a boy named John Askew. John Askew is the leader of the game called "death" he goes to the game with his friend called Allie. Later in the novel it is Kit's turn to die. Kit does die. His problem increases when kit's granpa becomes ill. He starts having blackouts. Kit is followed to the game by his teacher called "Burning Bush" Kit is awoken when he is dead. John Askew says that this means that Kit will be in a living dead for the rest of hiS life. So in Kit's dream a gohst called Silky comes and huants him. Silky leads Kit into darkness and leaves Kit more and more confused at what is going on around him. John Askw runs away and Kit is the one to bring him back. So in the end they have a Happy Christmas or do they? My favourite charactor in the novel is Kit he is the main charactor in the book because in the book the author is always talking bout him. John Askew seems frightening, almost "caveman" kind of person but his family aren't the best to live with. His dad abuses him so he has a tough time. Granpa lets the past come alive for Kit, he is always telling Kit storys untill he becomes ill.... The books most important themes are about life/death and frienship. The most exciting part of the novel occurs when Kit and Askew learn what it is really like to be friends and what friendship means. David Almond's type of writing is very distinctive because he can always make you feel Kit's feelings and how hw cope's with them. I would recommend this book to people who like exciting and mysterious books, because it is very unique in it's style. So read this book to find and what it is like to be Kit and how to cope with his problems! By Sophie Daniels
Rating: Summary: Alright, But Not The Best Review: Kits Wilderness by David Almond is a very imaginative and interesting story book with many different genres like its a fantasy because of all the ghostsand dreams. But its also an adventure as the relationship between Kit and John Askew and also about the game of Death and Lak. I think this Book is for most over the age of about 11. Kits Wilderness starts of with Kit as he moves into the town of Stonygate to live with his grandpa. He then meets John Askew who introduces him to the game of death. It then all becomes worse for kit as his grandpa becomes ill and has to go to hospital. Then the ghosts of the past come and haunt Kit. Then John Askew runs away and Kit finds him in an abandoned mine where they become blood brothers then they are found and brought back home for a happy ending (But Grandpa Dies!) Kit is the central charactor in the novel as every thing seems to link to him in one way or another. His friend Askew is also one of the main charactors, he seems a very scary type of person but turns out good in the end. Kits Grandpa is ill in most of the book but he makes the past alive for Kit. In order i think that frendship, family relationship, the past and death are the most important themes in the novel. In this book i think that the most exciting part is the story about Lak as i found it very interesting. David Almonds style of writing is very original as he has some very short sentences and some very long ones too. I would recommend this book to some but not all readers as parts of it become very confusing and mixed up. Overall a just above average book.
Rating: Summary: Kit's Wilderness Review: Kit's Wilderness is a great book for people who like magic, fantasy and who like to work things out for yourself. The characters in this novel are very interesting. They all are involved in the story in a big way and all have their own worries. Firts of all there's Kit. He is always drawn to the darkness and because of this becomes addicted to the game of death. He is like Grandpa in this way because Grandpa was drawn to the darkneses of the pit. He is sort of cut off from reality in his own problems as he sees the ghosts of the past, who had died in the pit disasters. Also because he can't do what he wants to because he can't stop thinking about his relationship with Askew. Askew is a sort of friend to kit and seems quite strange, frightening, almost caveman type figure. However, he has severe family problems and so as the book describes it, 'the baby inside him never had a chance to grow'. He feels he has a strong link with Kit, and there is one that is actually shown to Kit by his Grandpa, it is that Kit's ancestor died in one of the pit disasters and Askew's ancestor died in the same one. The themes in the book were magic and ghosts, death, family, Dark and light and good and bad. I think the most important theme of the book was death. I think this because it is the topic that is related to the whole book. I also think this because most of the characters experience something that to them feels like death. The m,ost intresting aspect of the novel is the way David Almond writes. His style is so distinctive and I don't think many writers could make it work. He uses short, sharp sentences alot which sort of gives you snapshots of whats going on. The most exciting part of the novel comes when Kit is invited down into the pit by Askew and at first they fight. I would recommend this book to anyone and I hope that if you read it you like it as much as i did.
Rating: Summary: Kits Wilderness Review: Kit's Wilderness by DAvid Almond is a cross between an adventure and a fantasy book, and is only suitable, I think, for readers who like fantasy as well as adventure not one or the other. The story starts off when Christopher (or Kit) Watson moves to Stoneygate after the death of his Grandma. His mother, father and him, move in with his Grandpa, who is usually full of life. Kit meets a boy called John Askew, a well kown troublemaker, and Allie , a cheerful, 'good bad' girl, and things go wrong. Kit sees children from the past, from the pit,(the coal mine) killed in a disaster, after being woken from 'death'. Askew's and Kit's ancestors used to work in int he pit and used to see Silky, a ghost. John Askew has a game called 'Death'. Allie and some others play this game, for fun, but Kit discovers him and Askew have more in common than he thinks. With Granpa's illness, the pit children from the past, the dissaperance of Askew and Kit's living death, can things get any stranger? Kit is most definetely the main character in this novel. It is intresting how he decides to be freinds with John Askew, and sees the light in him, instead of the dark. Kit is little bit too involved with Askew, I feel, at the beginning of the book. This is because if someone you had only known for a short while asked of you wanted to play a game called 'Death', you probably wouldn't! Askew is the darkest character in the book. He is called a 'caveman' and talks and draws about the mining children and their ghosts. John Askew can also see what Kit sees, and knows they are connected. Christopher Watson, aged 13 and John Askew aged 13 both died in the Stoneygate pit disaster. I don't like Askew because it all seams a bit surreal. I mean, is it likely that a 13 year old boy would go around talking about ghosts, darkness, connections and end up living like a caveman? Allie is my favourite character because she can be good and bad but fun at the same time. She is Kits only friend, proper friend, who is with him through out the book. Allie has to be the most real of the characters, sometimes in a good mood and sometimes not, and still plays the game called 'Death', only pretending. However, this book (or any book for that matter) would be completely boring if all the characters were like her. Allie Keenan contrasts well with John Askew. The most important themes in this novel are darkness against light, death and 'Death', the past, passing things down generation to generation, and friendships and family relationships. The most interesting aspect of the book for me was how there was one main plot, but other little plots joined up inside it. For example, the main plot would have been Kit's life in Stoneygate but a little or sub-plot would have been the game called 'Death'. I would only recommend this book to someone if they were into dark, adventurous and fantasy stories. This is because it is a bit of a confusing read and the ending is not as good as I exspected it to be. However, if I knew someone who would like this nocel, I would tell them to give it a go, and see what they think. By Amy Hawkins
Rating: Summary: Kits Recovery Review: Kit finds Askew and finds out about the name called death.Silky the ghost was complicated to find out who it was. I came to the conclusion that it was kit when he was younger and died when working in the cole mines. It was strange the way it had three scenes of which was not true(Winter,Autumn and Spring) atually showing the times of it getting bad and then getting good, i thought that was a great idea. I found this book very complicated beacause of Kit's dreams coming and going and Grandpa being dead or not. It was difficult to understand but it was a brillant story line. I enjoyed it very much and hope to read and enjoy his other book such as 'Skellig'!
Rating: Summary: Kit's Wilderness Review: Kit's Wilderness is a strange book because it is a bit of a fantacy and an adventure in one. The story starts off when kit moves to stoneygate and he doesn't really know anyone. Then he meets John Askew in school. When John Askew randomly comes up to his with a picture of him sitting by the school fence. At the end of the book kit and John Askew become really good friends. I don't like the book because it is dull and boring.
Rating: Summary: Kits Wilderness Review: Kits Wilderness is a great story with an excellent plot. The author (David Almond) has used a unique style of writing. The book is a fantsasy and adventure put together. It starts of when a young boy has moved to an isolated village called Stoneygate. He diddnt have many friends and was lonely untuil he met a boy called John Askew. Kit was taken by Askew and went to play a dangerous game alled 'DEATH' Kits problems started to increase as Grandpa becomes ill, he used to tell kit lots of adventure stories that Kit told to his friends. John Askew is a trouble maker, his really greacy hair and his big black eyes make him look terrifying. To top it all off His wild dog Jax isnt very friendly either. If i had to choose the most important theme i couldn't decide because all of them take a really big part in the story, The game death is important because Maybe he wouldnt see ghostly figures like his Grandpa. His family relationship because an unexpected person might appeaar whilst his father is being really mean to Kit. Friendship because his bedt friend (Allie Keenan) has helped kit get over the fact that something amazing but dangerous might happen to him ... The most intresting aspect of the novel was the way everything that happens plays a big part during the end of this story. I would recomend this book to anybody that likes a good book to read.
Rating: Summary: kits wilderness Review: Kits wilderness is one of the wierdest books i've ever read! I don't think it has a storyline or a genre either. It is not an adventure, its not a magical or fantasy story, it really puzzled me. The story starts off when Kit watson moves to Stonygate were his family used to live. He meets John Askew(he's crazy). Who intro duceces him to the "dangerous" game of death which starts this tale of mystery. Kits problems increase when his grandpa becomes ill and reflects a new bunch of problems for Kit. The goasts of the past come to haunt him, like people from his stories and outhers. basicly this book is crazy, don't buy it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
