Rating: Summary: disappointing Review: This, in my opinion, is the least interesting and most contrived novel Dean Koontz has written to date. Neither the story nor the characters were believable, in contrast to many of his earlier works. Inconsistencies abound. For example, the main character is described as not knowing much about firearms, and later in the story proceeds to describe a certain weapon and its characteristics in detail. I usually enjoy Mr. Koontz's technical explanations, but I don't think he researched the scientific nuances for this plot very carefully. Also, I think he would do well to have main characters closer to his own age. Despite all this, as a loyal fan, I will purchase his next novel as soon as it appears.
Rating: Summary: Not worth the read Review: I had just finished reading an older book by Koontz with the dog Einstein - thoroughly enjoyable. This book went no where very slowly. Like many readers I kept waiting for something to take off or explain something about the story. The only thing this story did was mention Einstein and go no where. Twenty pages from the end I was still waiting and now that I have finished, I wonder why I even bothered reading the book. Cover said "best he has ever written" - not so, probably the worst. I have two more books by Koontz to read, older ones since I have read all the recent books by Koontz. He is usually very strange and very enjoyable to read. Fear Nothing was a real let down.
Rating: Summary: Fear Nothing -- Enjoyable and Entertaining for Koontz fans Review: Dean Koontz became my favorite author after reading my first book by him book several years ago. I have read most of his books by now, sidestepping some of his very early works, when he was using some other name. I haven't finished reading Fear Nothing, but so far, about 2/3's of the way through, I am enjoying it very much. The surfer lingo is neat, and the hero is very easy to relate to...no, I dont have XP too. I hesitate reading all the reviews here, at this site, because I would like to see how Fear Nothing is to be resolved myself. Koontz's previous two books, Intensity and Sole Survivor were less than great,,,which is the yardstick by which I gauge this author's novels: he is so good. Intensity had me wanting to smack Chyna for her procrastination, and Sole Survivor was so bundled up and contrived at the end that it didn't do much for me. If you have never read Koontz before, you might want to give Fear Nothing a shot,,,then, go back and read some of his best, like Lightning, Watchers, and my favorite, Strangers...of course, there is also Twilight Eyes (a sleeper, but a great one), Phantoms, The Bad Place, Dark Rivers of the Heart, and dont' forget his minor stuff that's good too, like Darkfall and Cold Fire (which, although lacking much action, is very well balanced and contrived),,,All in all, between Koontz, Crieghton, Clancey, Cook and Clark, one could have a prety good time.
Rating: Summary: Don't waste your time or money... Review: A story that was scattered without the first hint of mystery. I turned the pages because I believed the story was bound to take off at some point...I was wrong.
Rating: Summary: Not to bad Review: I am in the process of reading this book after much hemming and hawing over whether or not I wanted to. I spent a long time going over other people's reviews here on Amazon before I finally borrowed it from a friend. Although I admit that it is not one of his absolute best, I do not find it to be as blatently boring as many people insist. I guess as the saying goes... "You can't please all of the people all of the time..." The plot has kept me intrigued and I can not wait to see what happens at the end. My only fear is that Dean Koontz will read all this negative feedback and decide "Hell with it!" If this is indeed to be a three part story then wait till all three books are out and read before passing judgement on just the first one.
Rating: Summary: My first Koontz novel, and I loved it Review: This being my first Koontz novel, I can't wait to read the rest of his work. The developing plot was totally thrilling. The transformation of the townfolk from law abiding human beings into animalistic creatures was chilling. The ending was somewhat depressing. I was hoping for a miracle cure for all of them, but alas I was let down.
Rating: Summary: Fear paying hard-earned money for this! Review: YAWN.
Rating: Summary: What a disappointment. Review: I've read Koontz before, and unfortunately this book does not measure up to his former efforts. While Koontz is a talented writer and craftsman, in this book he didn't even interest me, never mind frighten me. The premise is intriguing, and I did like the main character; however, I wanted more action and less detailed description of everything from the California coastline to friend Bobby's bathroom. I think Koontz has written so many novels that he has gotten bored, and to amuse himself, he loads his work with metaphors and similes, some of which are clever, but many of which do not work at all. I'm going back to his old works.
Rating: Summary: Orson-- a superb hero!!!!! Review: This book was interesting with its twisted plot. It had a mediocre ending that gave no real conclusion.
Rating: Summary: An engaging tale of woe ! Review: I thought this was an intriguing story with enough twists to keep the pages turning. The characters are enjoyable and somewhat easy to relate to.The plot gets a little far out, but I thought that is was an entertaining book just the same.
