Rating: Summary: I Liked it!!! Review: This was my 2nd Koontz novel and I'm hooked. Orson was definately my favorite character. I'm now looking at my two Golden's a little differently now! Looking forward to my next Koontz read.
Rating: Summary: not worth the time or money Review: I have read all of Dean Koontz's books and I must say that this is by far the worst by him that I've ever read (yes, worse than Tick-Tock). Normally a superb author, Koontz just really didn't seem to put much effort into this novel, which left me exasperated to say the least. If you want a good thriller from Koontz don't read this, try Watchers or Strangers instead.
Rating: Summary: A stay-up-late page turner. Review: I bought this book in Germany on the way home from a trip, and the book turned out to be another whole trip. Well written with great characters. I smell a sequel...
Rating: Summary: Excelent Review: Koonz does it again. It's the perfect mixture of terror and suspence. He's managed to do it again. I haven't enjoyed anything this much since Tic-Tock.
Rating: Summary: In the Koontz tradition. Review: This is the 35th Koontz book I read, and the 35th book of his which I liked. If one had to be really picky they could say that the only bad part of it was the first-person narrative, one I am not too much of a fan of. However, it contains the elements which have become trademarks in the Koontz novels... much like in Watchers, there is a dog and there is a laboratory. But as always, even if the plot tends to be predictable, Koontz manages to turn things round unexpectedly. Truly gifted in his ability to write, I am happy to see that in future I, as will his other fans, will meet once again the likes of Christopher, Bobby and Sasha. The formula worked with Watchers, so he dishes it out for the other books too. To me at least, it has done a pretty damn good job. Thanks so much Mr. Koontz.
Rating: Summary: You can't see the story for the description. Review: I love Dean Koontz. I have read everything he has done. BUT, this one was a challenge for me. There was so much description that it was hard to get into the story. I know that Christopher Snow, Bobby Halloway, Sasha Goodall and Orson are real (as per the authors note)and there could have been a very good story here but I lost interest when Mr. Koontz kept describing every little thing. Please Mr. Koontz, cut back on the filler and give us more of the subject matter.
Rating: Summary: Not in my top 10 of Koontz books Review: Dean Koontz is my absolute favorite writer, but I was dissapointed with "Fear Nothing". I missed the "thriller" factor, and to be in suspense till the final pages. I have the impression this is more a "routine" job than the other Koontz novels. My favorites are "Lightning" and "Strangers". Luc, Belgium
Rating: Summary: LOVED IT, LOVED IT, LOVED IT! Review: This book is surely the start of a successful trilogy. It simply can't end where it did. I was on suspense the whole way through it, and the characters were fabulous! I love the dog.The subject is different, but VERY entertaining and it holds your interest, leaving you wanting more. This is a must-read!
Rating: Summary: Koontz Continues With Another Great Novel Review: Despite the negative criticism abound, I think this novel was certainly a very nice achievement for Dean. The characters have been infused with life, the style and writing craft are excellent. The only place the book falters a bit--and then only slightly--is in the plotting; the pace seems to be a bit disjointed. Nevertheless, this book is highly reccomended.
Rating: Summary: "Almost" unbearable..but I did finish listening. Review: I did finish the novel. But only after overcoming the sometimes violent urge to rip the cassette from my Walkman, fling it to the ground, and, while stomping on it, scream "Is there a story here?? If there is, can we get on with it!!" But alas,no. I'm thinking that the majority of this book is just filler!! Dean is just fulfilling a publishing contract for pages written.... and I bought it!" My frustraion might have been enhanced due to the fact that I was listening to the audio version and not able to skim read the first 2/3s of the book (skimming recommended). I've listened to 3 other Koontz novels. " Mr. Murder" & "Intensity" were rivoting. Koontz is a gifted writer, and a lover of the language. This can be wonderful, but only when a story is attached! "Sole Survivor" I think, begins his descent on the slippery slope; the talented wordsmith selling short stories as novels; beefing up page count with desultory metaphoric ramblings. But, as for slow developing page fillers, this "novel" must have been a challenge for even the great "word master". How many friends can the "Snowman" have that are, by their nature, reluctant to talk... about anything, especialy the plot! Thus requring/allowing the author to provide seemingly endless descriptions of fields, fogs, kitchens, cats, moods, maliase ...anything but plot. This particular story is so drawn out that one can only suspect that Koontz/Publisher are trying to sell, as a full scale novel, what would basically be the first installment of a series of short stories, masquerading as novels. And counting on loyal readers to buy anything. As for myself, I can not be counted as a loyal fan. My last two experiences with Mr. Koontz' work were very disappointing. However, I do plan to try some his earlier works. I will be exploring recommendations (Watchers, Strangers, etc) from "fans" who found "Fear Nothing" as wanting as I did! .
