Rating: Summary: Entertaining Review: There were times that Koontz tends to ramble on about a subject. If one can get through that, the plot was fantastic. Really makes one think how much of this story is true. Definitely one to read before bed.
Rating: Summary: Koontz at what he does best! Review: Again, after Koontz sets the scene for this latest novel, the plot unravels with a "hurry up and turn the page" urgency. You won't want to put it down until you have discovered the secret that this latest novel is all about.
Rating: Summary: QUESTION Review: I haven't finished this book yet but I was wondering about "The Book of Counted Sorrows" bit. I've read other books by him and so many tend to have an excert from this "book" My question being, is this an actual book? Where can I find this book if it is real? (amazon doesn't seem to know what I'm talking about) Much thankx to anyone who can help me, Kay
Rating: Summary: Spellbinding Review: I have never read any other books by Dean Koontz, but after this one, I will. I could hardly put it down and had to drag myself to work in the morning and couldn't wait to get back to it at night. I love the theme of interspecies communication and the surfer character must have been patterned after my beloved brother Mike. I can't wait to read the next one or others by this author. PLUS, he's a very good WRITER.
Rating: Summary: Awesome, Chilling Tale!!! 10 stars!! Review: I give this book 5 of 5 stars simply for its amazing plotline and story. I'm looking forward to the sequel.
Rating: Summary: Both funny and scarry Review: How can one man do both. Sometimes he's scarry and funny in the same line. He builds you up horror then knocks you down with humor. Ya gotta love his wierd mind. Fear Nothing delivers without even trying. A quick-fun-scarry read. I hope Koontz continues with Cris Snow. I never think twice when buying a new Koontz book, he always delivers.
Rating: Summary: Koontz takes readers where no other writer can! Review: Previous to writing this review I have searched through a number of other reader's responses to "FEAR NOTHING" and was appalled by their obvious misunderstanding of the intention of the novel. Other reviewers have suggested the work lacks punch because the ending does not suggest the hero (Christopher Snow) will overcome the frighteningly REAL dangers of Moonlight Bay (THE DANGERS ARE REAL. ANYONE WHO HAS READ A PAPER OR NOTICED THE WIDESPREAD CHANGES IN OUR SOCIETY OVER THE LAST TEN YEARS CAN'T HELP BUT SHUDDER AT THE WORLD KOONTZ CREATES OR THE EVOCATIVE PROSE HE ASSEMBLES TO TAKE US THERE). Ironically, this is exactly why the work is of so much merit. It is juvenile and stupid to suggest that, in this world, the good guy will always end up the victor. Rather, Koontz allows the reader to suffer through Snow's horrible revelations and to realise that there is no "yellow brick road". As with the characters, the smart reader will understand their plight is hopeless and merely marvel at the dignity and humour they show in the face of the juggernaut heading their way. Also, anyone who has the capability to understand beyond the apparent will marvel at the sub-text, at the way in which, ultimately, the human race is destroyed not by pure hate but by misguided love and that the characters who are the least harmed (Chris Snow and his posse of friends) are also the characters who display the greatest levels of unconditional love. This sub-text is re-iterated several times but no more disturbingly than in the plight of Manuel Ramirez and his down-syndrome child, Toby. As always, Koontz lifts a plot which, in the hands of a revered schlockmeister like King, would have ended up similar to a carnival funhouse (Plastic and gaudy, with no attributes capable of evoking real, primal fear) and turns into something disturbingly beautiful, a rarity in a time when publishers are hell-bent on providing tactless shock for shock's sake novels. So, if you want to read a novel that churns out the inevitable good guy versus bad guy drivel steer clear of "FEAR NOTHING". However, if you are searching the bookshelves for that elusive novel which provides escapism and intellectual stimulation, head in Dean Koontz's direction. This is best summed up in a review on the paperback edition of "FEAR NOTHING's" sequel, "SEIZE THE NIGHT": "Koontz is working right where popular culture swells into something larger, just as it did for Homer, Shakespeare and Dickens. He's got the gift." I couldn't have said it better myself.
Rating: Summary: be prepared to do lots of skimming Review: I have read many of Dean Koontz's books, and have enjoyed most of them, even though a lot of his novels story lines are so similiar you have a hard time remembering which story line was from which novel. Fear nothing had all the classic Koontz ingredients: A young aspiring writer, his love interest, his "chuffing" dog, and a government conspiracy. This novel just didn't cut it for me. I found myself speed reading most of it, too much description and scene setting.
Rating: Summary: I enjoyed it. Review: Although this book was not nearly as good as Watchers and Lightening, I still enjoyed it. I have read all of Dean Koontz books and although Watchers is my favorite I have enjoyed them all. Some were definately better than others and he does seem to focus a lot on government conspiracies, but so does the Xfiles. Not every episode of the Xfiles is great, but I still find myself coming back for more. The same is true of Dean Koontz's writing. I enjoyed Fear Nothing because it has an interesting concept and it took some of my favorite things (smart dog, different type of hero) and incorporated them in an interesting book. Although as someone else mentioned in their review, Koontz does use very similar guys as main characters, this isn't always the case. In Intensity his main character was a gutsy female without any weapons, and in Lightening although there was a male hero, his female character was really the focus of the story. In Fear Nothing he does ramble a bit in the first person, which isn't my favorite style, but overall the characters are interesting and make me want to read the next book to see how everything turns out. I've already started reading Fear Nothing again to get the stuff I missed on my first time through. I'm actually enjoying it more the second time.
Rating: Summary: WELL BELOW QUALITY OF KOONTZ'S PAST WORKS!!! Review: An avid reader of Koontz, this is the first time I have ever been disappointed. I normally read his novels in 2 to 10 days, but this one took about five weeks!! It seemed to promise something, teasing you with suspense, then nothing happened, nothing happened at all. I almost gave it three stars but felt that would be overly generous which Koontz was not with this book. Maybe the sequel will make up for it, will let you know when I get the guts to read it.
