Rating: Summary: WONDERFUL BOOK!!! Review: The only Anne Rice novel I have read and I absolutely loved it. It is a magical novel. Anne Rice also fulfills the reader with history and classical music. I thought it was a beautiful book. After this book I tried reading other novels of hers and couldn't get into it. HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT!
Rating: Summary: Love Anne Rice, Hate This Book Review: I have read every Anne Rice Book Published, And loved them all. But, This book stinks! I am bored, skipping pages, wondering when it will capture me. Did someone else write this book? It's like someone took all the fuffy stuff Anne sometimes writes and filled an entire book.
Rating: Summary: Give Anne a break! Review: I'm in the middle of the novel, so far, but I have enjoyed it greatly. It's vintage Anne Rice in that it's dark and brooding. What I have been fascinated with is that it's like being in someone else's head. It reminds me somewhat of Ruth Rendell's psychological suspense novels. We all have things in our past we regret, wonder if we should have handled differently, stupid things we've said, and things that we will feel badly about for the rest of our lives. Like Triana, and/or Anne. The book, to me, has been the exploration of these "ghosts" that haunt Triana, besides Stefan. I guess you could say that it's just a different kind of ghost story, it's the ghosts of the past that haunt Triana, and Stefan is there to lead her through. Anne Rice is as human as the rest of us; her work is bound to evolve in one direction or the other. I enjoyed her earliest Vampire Chronicles a lot, myself, too, but this is completely different from that and that's another thing I like. This book has been one that I can sit down with and completely loose track of time and space, and that's what I really enjoy in a book.
Rating: Summary: blah, blah, blech! Review: Once upon a time I thought Anne Rice was the best living author still publishing. Now it appears she thinks so too. I have never read a bigger waste of good paper and print. Perhaps when Mrs. Rice gets over herself we can enjoy her work again.
Rating: Summary: The first Anne Rice book you may not like. Review: I usually devour her books but this one simply couldn't capture my attention. I spent the whole book from my first meeting with Treana and Stefan wondering where the story line was and I never found it. I found myself skipping pages just to try to get to the heart of the story and the ending just didn't sit well. Where have I heard "go into the light" before? But don't let this book turn you away from a very gifteded writer's works. Turn your attention to Pandora a book that is all but impossible to put down.
Rating: Summary: It all depends on what you expect Review: Sad to say, I was expecting this book to be just as exciting and rich as the previous ones, and it wrecked my whole reading experience. But please do not compare this book to the previous ones. This may be a tale concerning the supernatural, but it concentrates more on the life of a woman who is alive and trying to get her life together. If you read it, do not expect it to be like the other novels!
Rating: Summary: Vintage Rice but not as enticing as Lestat Review: It took me a while to get through this book. Violin has all the things that make an Anne Rice book enjoyable: rich language and description, a fascinating view of times and people long since past, and the supernatural. In this case, the supernatural isn't a vampire, but a ghost, Stefan, who makes for a good characted but lacks the panache Lestat, Armand, and the gang have. Rumors have gone around that this book is autobiographical in some respects, and it isn't too hard to discover that Rice put some of her life into the story. It is classic Rice, but the pace is slow and the events (mostly musical related except for the condition of Stefan's trancedence into "ghost-hood" which is original)are not as exciting as something you would find in The Vampire Lestat or Queen of the Damned. In conclusion, if you are a newcomer to the Rice world, pick up Interview with the Vampire. If you are a fan of her writing and willing to struggle through a few slow moments, then Violin will make for a good read.
Rating: Summary: Did anyone actually finish this one??? Review: I was shocked and dismayed. The endless drivel of unimportant details never congeals, much less culminates! Sorry to say, I had to put this book away after about two thirds complete. Too bad, Anne might have done the same and saved us all some time. Her usual loving, lavish attention to detail takes on a laborious note with this read. There never seemed to be much of a point, nothing to grip the reader. The plot weakened to the point where I had to put this away, lest I be jaded for more of her work to come. Just my opinion, and I haven't yet made it to the end (after almost two years!). I look forward to more of Anne Rice, her style I have found to be exquisite in detail, her characters to be deep, complex, and engaging. Unfortunately this novel lacks much of what I have enjoyed to date of her writing.
Rating: Summary: Worst book ever written by the author Review: I actually read the book a year ago (the whole rubish)andI'm still angry about it. I liked it in the beginning, I thought Rice had reached a new stade as Iread her wonderfull description of the second movement of Beethovens 9th symphony. But then I realised this was the best the book had to offer. After this all immagination seemed to leave her. The worst for me was Beethoven's appearance, she couldn't imagine the Maestro herself, she had to lean on Gary Oldman's extraordinal performence in the Imortal Beloved... Shame on her for her disrespect for Beethoven and Paganini...
Rating: Summary: Complete rubbish from Ms Rice Review: I have read many of her books and usually her work is excellent. Violin is undoubtedly the worst book she has ever written. I only got half-way through and I couldn't bring myself to finish it. My uni textbooks are more interesting than this utter crap. Please do yourself a favour and don't even bother with this one from Ms Rice.
