Summary: Still don't understand the "Fountain" part
Review: I hated this book, for a while anyway. The first 50 pages were, in a word, horrible. The language is so elaborate it becomes confusing and forced. Dialogue seems as though written on a storyboard (and a couple of the post-it notes fell off). Craven tries to make mystery and intrigue by omitting any introduction, leaving a confused reader. His story loses that magical flow, leaving a tale that jerks around like a teenager driving a car for his first time.

Then it gets better.

At around page 70, Craven realizes that a book isn't a movie and finds his niche. The conversation isn't as forced, and he actually develops a fine story. He obviously did heavy research for the technical parts of his novel which helps give it a more realistic feel. However, he feels a need to keep the action high... constantly. Eventually, this dulls the reader as the main characters encounter every death trap and moral dilemma the author can create. Readers will find themselves propelled from a love triangle, to a showdown with a Colonel and back again within five pages. Considering the novel is 450 pages long, it's a lot of jumping around.

Still, Craven has a magnificent first attempt. His characters have personality, he provides a new twist to an old theme, and most importantly, he carries that idea throughout his book. It is an interesting story, and although I don't recommend you put it on the top of your wish list, remember the title the next time you go book shopping.

Summary: This reads like a movie!
Review: I have always seen Wes Craven as the best director of horror movies or thrillers. He is just different as Clive Barker who just tries to shock you with the most disturbing images you can think of. And altough this can be very frightening (I almost got sick when I saw "Lord of Illusions") even though his movies are NOT B-movies like the other horror flicks, it's not exactly my kind of horror movies.

But Wes Craven has something different. He can make a movie scary but not unpleasant to watch. He is also pretty original.

That's also why I wanted to read this book. This, and because I heard that Wes is going to make a movie of it. And this book reads exactly like a movie. I think because he is a movie-director he knows what you can show in a movie or not and what works and what not. But I could almost visualize how this movie would be going to look like.

If you are going to read this book, it is for the best that you don't know much about the story but just the plot. Because there are a lot of strange twists and very original things which you just HAVE to find out by reading.

Though there is one comment on this book. Wes Craven is well known as a horror/thriller director and this story doesn't have much opportunety's to be gory. It also has much romance (!) which you wouldn't expect from Craven. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely don't have a problem with this but to make this book still enjoyable for his fans he puts in some characters which don't realy matter for the story but just to get killed in a bloody way.

Though still, I'm realy looking forward to the movie or his next book!

Summary: Stick With What You Know
Review: I have finished almost every book I've ever started. Call it Obsessive/Compulsive or blame it on my English degree, but once I start a book, I have to finish it. I put down Fountain Society after chapter two only to find it later with a year's coat of dust. All I could think as I trudged through it again was "This would make great movie." There was just enough violence (imagine how Wes Craven would produce a scene with a guy being sucked out a plane window), just enough sex, and just enough plot--for a movie. Fountain Society wasn't a bad book--I've read much worse--but it would have made a better movie.

Summary: The 9º clon?
Review: I liked that book a lot, although the lack of an organized introduction leaves you confused for a while, the great part comes when you see the two stories link together, another amazing thing is how Craven gets to keep you thrilled during the whole book, although the ending of the books lets a little more to wish......
The only thing i didnt like about the book is the translation to the spanish,it is very stiff..the title of the book is The 9º clon!!! can u believe that.

Summary: Great job, Mr. Craven
Review: I think Wes Craven has a real future as a novelist to compliment his film directing. The story was well designed and executed and should adapt beautifully to the big screen--as it was written very cinematically. Kudos!

Summary: Biomedical Mystery of the Millenium
Review: I was expecting a horror story at first, then was dismayed to find out that it involved the government, but was pleasantly surprised as I began reading more and more. While we do know what is going to happen to some of the characters before they know, he does a wonderful job of making us anxious for the characters without thinking they (the characters) are stupid for not seeing it sooner.

A twist at the end just added to the overall readability of the book.

Great work Mr. Craven!

Summary: Craven should stick to horror movies
Review: I was extremely dissapointed with "Fountain Society." In the mood for a good horror book, I picked up Craven's thinking it would scare the pants off me. Instead I found myself falling asleep to the boring plot and slow, tedious writing. I finished it because I hate to stop reading books. It got a little better towards the end, but it seemed to go on and on and on. I wish he would have stuck to his genre of good, bloody horror.

Summary: I Can't Wait for the Movie!!
Review: I've only read about half the book at the moment, but every page is interesting and it urges me on. I'm not going to bore you (like some other reviewers have) with a full plot summery, or by pointing every minute detail that can be criticized. Instead, I'm just going to say this: Craven has done a wonderful job as a first-time novelist, and you definately should invest the time to sit down and read this book.
