Review: This book has so many sexual undertones and subtle references that your imagination cannot help but be captivated. Few books produce a quality reference from a story board, or lack there of. If you like a pictoral of a twisted side, then this would be a book worth reading

Summary: An Intellectual Oz
Review: What an appropriate book for our times, when so much we know is often locked into one-sided arguments or perceptions. When I listen to people speak of others, they generalize, trivialize, and, therefore, misunderstand. This leads to distrust, not only of individuals, but of cultures as well.This is why I enjoyed this book so. (Not to mention the intrigue and wonderful ethical and moral questions it raises.) We see a character whom we all once recognized as inherently evil. Kudos to Mr. Macguire for sharing with us the other sides and motivations of the Witch. We are not singular creatures; we are pluralistic, sometimes muddy; always vastly complex. My family read and debated the implications presented in this book. Over a year, we reeled in large and small fishes of possibilities surrounding the ramifications of justifiable murder. Very fun to play with. I have passed this book on to many friends, one of whom liked it enough to keep it. Guess I'll have to get a few more copies....

Summary: Utterly Engaging !
Review: Gosh, how do you sum up genius in a few words? The book was Oz to the tenth. I shared WICKED with friends, PhD's, non academics and all thought it a WOW read. The book brings great fauder for thought and conversation. It is intimate, arousing, and over all intriguing. I suppose Fabala melts because she is sin embodied...a baptismal thing. I wonder what the author says about that? It is absolutely up there with Tolkien !!! I placed on my shelf beside the best. Alice and The Hobbit ! KUDOS !

Summary: Highly Endorsed by an Oz Fanatic!
Review: I grew up reading the whole series of Oz books by Frank Baum, and lesser sequels by other authors. Wicked is completely true to the fantasy and integrity of the Land of Oz created by Baum, and brings even more dimension to that fantastic land. You will believe in Oz when you read this, and you will never look at the Wicked Witch of the West the same again.

Summary: fianlly a male author who creates a great female character!
Review: I thought this book was simply a joy to rewad. The funny thing is that I picked it up at the bookstore purely by chance. I knew nothing about the author or the book. I have to give credit to Maguire for creating such an awesome 3 dimensional character. Most male author create stereotpyes, "the beautiful smart woman", "The sex symbol" "the spinster", etc. Just as men are, women are multi-facetted. I've seen other male authors succeed, but very very few. Wicked is worth reading as a pro-human (aka pro-woman), creative, and fun piece.

Summary: It was a great book, but he needs to make a sequel!!!!
Review: I loved the book, it showed Oz and innocent little Dorothy from a different point of view. You got to learn what made 'The Wicked Witch' wicked. But it leaves you hanging. What ever happened to the shoes? What happened to Nor and Liir? He definitly needs to make a sequel.

Review: Caught in the vortex of the Witch's own tornado, we realize that all of Oz is just a stage...and Dorothy and Toto merely players. Let your perceptions of good and evil melt away as you read a story from the perspective of a so-called wicked person. After all, perspective is 9/10 of the law.

Review: The Wicked Witch of the West is back with a vengence! Maguire blends the movie and original versions of the Wizard of Oz into a unique blend of passion, humanity, fanstasy and story-telling. Elphaba is a full, many-faceted character that is rare to find in a world so full of magic and talking Animals. The messages of the book transcend the world of Oz. This is more then an escapist fantasy!

Summary: Facinated by a world existing where I never thought to look.
Review: The story comes alive in my mind as the old tale of a land that I once percieved as one dimesional falls away exposing a world just as diverse and mysterious as the one we live in. I'm so thankful that Maguire brought us this darker ..truer to life Oz. The Wicked Witch of the West is no longer simply GREEN. Through Elphaba we are introduced to a character more alive and more free thinking than we ever could have imagined. She is a beacon of strength that shines in our minds bringing us a clearer..and much more facinating Land of Oz.

Review: There is quite literally something for everyone in "Wicked". Fans of fairy tales,political intrigue, religious diversity,feminist literature, and quality fantasy will find a safe haven here. Maguire does not brutalize the original Baum work; rather he autopsies it to find some threads left by L. Frank and expands to delight... "Wicked" is now happily residing in my Top 10!
