Rating: Summary: The Best Stephen King Book Written! Review: For those of you that have read Stephen King, this is the best of his works that I have read so far. A masterful tale of Ralph Roberts with a reference to The Dark Tower Series. (I suggest reading all four off The Dark Tower Series first) Although, the book is hardly about Insomnia (I really think that Stephen King really goes through cycles of insomia writing this stuff) I couldn't put the book down. YOU MUST READ THIS!!!
Rating: Summary: IT IS GREAT! Review: The images and idea that King portrays in this book are riveting and though-provoking. READ IT!
Rating: Summary: Just kinda so-so Review: There's good Stephen King and there's bad Stephen King, and this book has a little of both. I liked the way he wrote about the lives of these elderly people, and making them the heroes of the story. It would have been better though, if instead of getting younger and more physical, King had allowed them to use the wisdom and intelligence of their age to win in the end. I kept reading just to find out who the bald doctors were, and what they were trying to do and why. I think in the end King doesn't really say anything definite about what the 'Higher Purpose' is or why the kid in the story was so important to it. Instead, he avoids it probably because it would end up sounding hokey to try and explain it all. Overall its suspenseful and good in parts, but there's also some stupid and unbelievable things... like the kid who after he gets rescued from the burning halfway house is laughing like he's playing cops and robbers. A real kid would be screaming and crying, or in too much shock.. he wouldn't be laughing and playing. And King doesn't know how to write young kids either... a kid in a Nirvana T-shirt yelling 'Boo-Ya!'??? This kind of writing makes King sound like an old geezer himself.
Rating: Summary: Thought provoking book coupled with great story telling.... Review: King never fails to amaze me with his ideas and the way he developes a story. Insomnia. an existing phenomena (I wouldn't call it an illness) that most people would have experienced in certain stages of their lives, was used to weave this spellbinding story. King could really describe the frustration of not getting the amount of sleep one is supposed to get after a long hard day...the feeling that somebody is cheating you of your right to rest. I could identify with the panic and anger as I lay awake some nights, tossing and turning in bed. I especially liked how King uses auras to represent different states of emotions and how a person's life is decided by the three little bald doctors that serves the Random and the Purpose. People die everyday, some with reasons, some without and King gave me a deeper insight into the latter.
Rating: Summary: It was childish... Review: The first part of the book was very boring. Not many people like to read about old people and their lives. By the way, what does Ralph's wife being dead have to do with the story? All i can see is that that made it easier for him to be with his old hag of a girlfriend. Anyways, i found it childish in a sense. Little midgets which kill you isn't something i prefer to read about. Maybe a 3rd grader would write a story about that but Stephen King is a grown man! I am only 13 yrs old and i find it very immature to write about that. I can find worse, like dolls or stuffed animals but elves/midgets are bad enough. And i don't see where the women that were abused fit in either. Stephen get your act together and write some REAL works of art! I like reading your books but, only if they have a reasonable genre. I have seen worse books by you, like Cujo, but i think you are capable of writing with real talent.
Rating: Summary: Goes from boring to intriguing to totally satisfying Review: This would have been a fabulous book except for the fact that the beginning ( although it is setting the plot somewhat ) has very little appeal because it is so L-O-N-G and non-complacent with the mood of the rest of the book. The overrall effect I get from this book is deeply satisfying, but the foreshadowing of the characters is way too extensive, it could have been half as long. Stephen King is in my opinion the best author around, but my favorite is still Salem's Lot. It was SHORT AND SWEET.
Rating: Summary: doesn't CAUSE insomnia Review: not a truly terrible book because it has some interesting ideas, but mostly it had way too many boring parts to be truly enjoyable. stephen king has definetely done much better. on reading past reviews of the book i see that a lot of people are suggesting one reads 'the dark tower' series to truly get the most from 'insomnia', and well, i actually haven't read them, so...
Rating: Summary: Long and boring Review: The one and only novel of stephen king that makes me wonder why ,just why I bought it. It is really a 600 page torture.....
Rating: Summary: Easily his worst Review: If this had come from a new, no-name author, no publisher would have touched it. The story is ridiculous and utterly unconvincing; I liked the idea of an elderly protagonist, but other than that the novel was simply boring. I'm a big fan of King's earlier novels, but the books he wrote in the 90s have been just one disappointment after the other, and this one takes the cake. Please Mr King, even if you are THE bestest-selling author around, PLEASE let someone edit your books. Do your fans a favor and give them readable, enjoyable books. And how about putting some heart back into your stories? They need a little breath of fresh air, and so do your readers.
Rating: Summary: One of King's best Review: This book is one of my favorite King novels. I stayed up into the wee hours of the night reading this book, wishing that I had insomnia so I would not have to put it down and go to sleep. I read this book when it first came out, and to this day I have a problem buying freshly cut flowers, because I still see the black tendrils of death rising from the bouquet.
