Review: This is one of the finest books published on the topic of African orchids. Although Africa is a continent relatively poor in orchid species there are still about 1550 species in 99 genera and they deserve to be better known and more frequently grown in collections. Until the ground-breaking work of luminaries such as Fred Hillerman very little attention was given by orchidists to the African species. I am pleased to see the Lacroix's volume carrying on Hillerman's bright path. This is a comprehensive book with many line drawings and colour illustrations that is well-written and includes a section on African orchid hybrids as well as important cultural information on many diverse species. Highly recommended.
