Summary: Do not buy this book unless you want a lot of frustration
Review: I am an experienced knitter and picked what I thought would be a relatively easy pattern - never have I been so frustrated. The instructions were not explicit enough and I have spent hours trying out my own methods to accomplish what the designer wanted me to do. At this point I really have no desire to even try any more or ever try another Vogue pattern.

Summary: great ideas - but not much for the beginner
Review: I am in the middle of my first knitting class - I thought starting with blankets would be easy because you can't mess up the size too bad - although I LOVE many of the blankets in this book - only a few options for the beginner. I hope that as I get more experienced, i will be able to do more of the projects in this book.

Summary: Want a great baby present? Make one of these blankets
Review: I knit a lot of sweaters for BOF's (babies of friends) but the little tykes grow out of them in an instant. A baby blanket is a great project because it can grow with the baby. When Junior is ambulatory, he can tote it around like Linus and drag it behind him in the dust until the ridicule of his elder siblings or friends makes him finally give it up. The patterns here are varied, and have different levels of difficulty. None are too tiring, because a baby blanket is just so much fun--you won't get afghan-itis and peter out because they are pretty small. And you can use fun colors you wouldn't dress a baby in. So have fun, and make one of these.

Summary: Some cute projects
Review: The beauty of this book is its tiny size and quickness of projects. The first few pages are dedicated to a quick review of knitting, and then the fun begins. As the title indicates, most of the items featured are blankets, and some of them are just so cute! They use a variety of techniques, including chevron, color work, patchwork, entrelac, three-dimensional textures (which babies love), and lace. There are both subdued patterns, emphasizing stitch texture, and more bold patters which emphasize color contrast and feature animals, etc. Colors can be adapted to any gender or nursery setting.

Summary: Excellent addition to the On the Go series
Review: This book is chock-full of cute patterns for all different skill levels and is a very appropriate addition to the Vogue Knitting On the Go series. Many of the projects are done in sections and combined during finishing, so they are truly portable. The editors have also included a few patterns that are truly challenging but because of their small size (baby blankets are usually not larger than about 36" square) they are not overwhelming. I bought this book because my knitting group is donating baby blankets to the local Ronald McDonald House and there is something for everyone in the book. We'll be busy through the end of the year and beyond!

Summary: Pretty pictures are not the whole story
Review: While the format and outlay of this little book is very appealing, the editors did not review the actual knitting directions for consistency and clarity--for example where squares were of 18 rows, they are suddenly changed to 10 ridges. In other cases, the sequence of steps was very unclear and poorly stated. The multi-colored blankets give very little direction for finishing and thought for how the back of a blanket might look and hold together under fairly strenuous use. For the most part, it's probably a good idea to choose the single colored patterns.
