Rating: 5 stars
Summary: A great historical and reference treat
Review: First published in 1941 this is a book that anyone interested in gardening should like. Or in my case Love! As the author notes in her Introduction "Plants mentioned in the Bible are the living link between us and the people of those hallowed and distant times. We cultivate in the flower and herb garden, in the vegetable patch and orchard, plants which grew in the garden of the Promised Land, plants of which Isaiah and Ezekiel spoke, plants which Jesus used in his parables."

It is well laid out and notes what Biblical plants were grown in Biblical times and which ones are lovely and useful in American gardens. From Fruits, Trees, Herbs, Flowers, Grains and lentils, perfumes and precious woods, reeds and rushes, thorns and thistles. The last chapter is titled To Everything There Is A Season, and it covers laying out a garden with Biblical plants as well as how to use plants once grown.
