Summary: Great Ideas For Crafty People
Review: "Welcome Home" is a great book to browse through on a spring weekend when you are sure that this is the year that you will spend all summer fixing up the house. The photographs of Debbie's house make you want to jump in there and live (or at least spend a week!) The ideas range from fancy (and complicated) to just plain cute (and easy). If you want a country look in your home, "Welcome Home" would be the place to start.

Summary: Ok for the Coffee Table
Review: I am a big fan of Debbie Mumm's designs and I had hoped for more. The decorating tips and techniques are limited, and are published in lots of other more useful design books. Some of the more unsual ideas, especially in her son's room are just not mentioned. Nice pictures of her house, but thats it.

Summary: Cozy home decorating. Mumm's the word.
Review: I have known Debbie Mumm through her quiltbooks for years and years. She has such a nice and whimsical style that is perfect for my taste. In this book, Welcome Home, she combines her quilts with home decoration, and has managed to do it very successfully. The hardcovered book is filled with creative and charming tips on how to decorate your home, how to display your favorite quilts, how to give a favorite furniture a touch of painting to give it a new life.

The book is filled with paintings and drawings and are divided into chapters covering the whole house. From the basement studio, through the dining room and the family room to Murphy's room. All put together in a charming way. We also get holiday inspirations, she shows us tricks to display cottage charm, and alot more.

The last section of the book is a work book, where we can learn quick-and-easy techniques for surface design and finishing touches for home decor.

Many of the ideas are too creative for my taste, but is is still a joy to look through the book, and every time I do that I get new ideas for my own home decorating.

Summary: A little disappointed
Review: If you are looking for a book to inspire your home decorating then this book is great. It gives the reader a lovely look around Debbie Mumm's home and shows us how to acheive the same painted effects in our homes. If you, like me, are looking for a book that deals with soft furnishings and quilts then this is NOT the book for you. I have some of Debbie Mumm's other titles and love them but I was expecting something different when I ordered this one.

Summary: Nice and useful
Review: Just under 130 pages this is a wonderful book if you are looking for some suggestions on what to do with that favorite lamp or dresser that you hate the looks of, but love to much to throw out. It is also nice because what you learn you can file in the mental file cabinet and in the furture if driving down a highway or by a yard sale or even a twoce yearly community trash and throw day where everyone puts the stuff they no longer want, out on the curb for trash pickup, you may just spot a piece that will remind you of this book and you will grab it, redo it, and have yourself a family keepsake.

Living in Berkeley, the Sierra foothills, even Marthas Vineyard or the SoHo area of NYC, you will adore this book. It reminded me of some treasures I made in the 70's which I still treasure.

This is NOT a book on making junkie stuff out of throw away stuff. The pieces shown are very nice and would fit well in many homes.
