Rating: Summary: Outstanding! Review: As a new tortoise keeper, I needed help making sure my "little tank" was properly cared for. Mrs Palika' s book was right on. It wasn't loaded down with technical or scientific lingo, and wasn't written in the 70s (a common problem with pet care books). I was first relived that I was doing it right and then enjoyed the light hearted writing style and little tid-bits of trivia that are always enjoyable in a book of your hobby.

Rating: Summary: It is a useful source of info for tort lovers. Review: Easy to read and lots of practical information based on author's vast experiences. As a beginner, I truly found it resourceful and useful. If you love to read a how-to book, it is the one you're looking for. But if you love fancy photos, 4-color pictures for reference purpose, etc. it's not what you need. Liz, it'd be very much better and will be perfect if you could possibly include more 4-color pictures of famous tortoises and turtles.
Rating: Summary: best turtle book I've read to date Review: I grew up raising turtles the easy way... in a tub or patio pond. Now I'm in a citified house with four legged critters who'd love to get their tongues around one of our turtle friends ("But Mom, I just wanna lick him a little..."). Ms. Palika's book has proven to be an extremely helpful guide in setting up our large in-the-house aquarium. My previous experience with turtle books was along the lines of the 50-page "Turtles As Pets" books, so this one was a pleasant departure from the norm. She sounds so knowledgeable, I just wish she lived in my area... it's rare to find people who are serious about turtle-keeping.

Rating: Summary: this is a great book! Review: I think this book is a top notch one and everyone wanting to know more on turtles should read if not buy this book!
Rating: Summary: Finally something we all can read. Review: It is so nice to have a practical guide for the pet owner that isn't written like a text book. I really enjoyed it.
Rating: Summary: A fine book Review: Liz Palika is both a fine writer and an excellent tortoise keeper.
Rating: Summary: Finally something we all can read. Review: There should be more spell-it-out for the beginner books like this on the subject. Turtles are very difficult to care for properly and this book is full of truths on the matter. Concise and thorough - a necessity for the rookie or pro turtle keeper.
Rating: Summary: good book for children and absolute beginners Review: There's plenty of correct information here, written in an easily readable chatty style, but it is not likely to be useful to anyone with any experience with chelonians. The lack of color pictures limits its usefulness in identifying species. This book should be recommended just for beginners.
