Rating: Summary: Good review of techniques, limited subject matter Review: Armstrong is an accomplished modeler and figure manufacturer. The book has a focus on British Medieval figures with much discussion on heraldry for that area. Other parts of the medieval world are given scant attention. He demonstrates many techniques for building both metal figures and scenes to place them in. His techniques for building castle sections for figure displays was very interesting. He does not discuss painting techniques much except for burnishing and polishing armor. All in all a good reference for those wishing to model British medieval subjects.
Rating: Summary: Finally a modelling book that is not about WW 2 Review: Excellent book. Well documented and well written. A must own for anyone who wants to expand beyond trolls and Nazis.
Rating: Summary: An excellent buy Review: If you are getting into Medieval modelling this is the book for you. Everything from making weapons to heraldry. A must own for anyone with a passing interest.
Rating: Summary: Excellent resource for the serious figure modeler Review: If you're a novice looking for a step-by-step how-to book, keep looking. This volume is for the modeler who already has some experience with building and painting kits, but perhaps hasn't yet worked with human figures much. There are handy tips here, it's just that the emphasis is on customizing figures and creating a backdrop for them. Armstrong is a modeler who places a premium on accuracy, and his comments on achieving the proper detailing for his figures are informative and reveal the broader educational opportunities inherent in this hobby. There is also a helpful bibliography included. As far as modeling itself, the strength of this book is in the imaginative and ingenious ways in which Armstrong creates convincing, interesting sets for his figures, and for this aspect alone, the book is well worth the price. Highly recommended for the serious enthusiast.
Rating: Summary: Ancient & Medieval Modelling (Osprey Masterclass) Review: This book is not about so-called "how to paint for biginers". It only has a small chapter with basical miniature modelling techniques. But very nice work in it, not only converting and scratch building, but olso author showing about the ancient and medieval back ground world. It's intresting to read. Good guide book for miniture modellers who wants to jump-up to next step.
