Rating: Summary: The Funny Bride Guide Review: As a male, I am totally ignorant of wedding etiquette. I have a sister-in-law who is to be married shortly, so I went looking for some assistance. Admittedly, I am intimidated by the whole affair so I wanted a book that would not add anymore pressure. I looked through several books, which not only further intimidated me, but reinforced the fact that I am completely out of my element. I was about to throw in the towel when I picked up The Funny Bride Guide. As frustrated as a wedding inept male can get, I began to laugh at the first page. I continued laughing through the day as I finished reading the book. I was so relieved and pleased I went and purchased another copy for my soon to be sister-in-law. She has thanked me non-stop for alleviating some stress with the use of The Funny Bride Guide. Thank you very much to the ladies who were so considerate of a man who only wants to do whats right with the least amount of pain. Kudos!
Rating: Summary: wanted to like it Review: Based on the other readers comments, I wanted to like this book. I bought it for an acquaintance who was getting married. Before giving it, I decided that I really should read a copy. I found it trite and not really all that funny, and not really accounting for the different styles of weddings out there today. I decided not to give as a gift
Rating: Summary: The Husband's Funny Bride Guide Review: Here's the deal; my bride-to-be bought fifteen different bride and marriage books thinking they would help in planning the big day. Guess again! All the books had different covers and authors but all had the same materials in them, not one differed from the other. Come on, what good is that??
She was doing some "additional research" and came across "The Funny Bride Guide". She liked the books description; felt there might be some value to buying it. After all, what did she have to lose; she already spent $1,000,000 on the other books...
I have to admit, she was dead-on with her analysis of the book. She couldn't put it down, laughed so much I figured I better find out what she's laughing about.
I read the book and was hooked. What catches your attention is the book fits any one having to go through or has gone threw the wedding process; dealing with the random gifts, the weirdo family members, and the "Other" stresses of this blessed event...
Take it from a guy, if the bride needs detailed information that is easily digestible and very funny, get this book. Don't waste the time or the cash on all the other materials that are out there. Encourage your bride to get this book and end it. Not only will it save you money, you won't waste hours "Shopping" with her trying to choose the "perfect wedding book" to buy.
In closing: great book, very funny, and no shopping. Praise the lord!
Rating: Summary: Great shower gift Review: I bought this adorable book for a friend of mine who is getting married. She opened it at her shower and passed it around. Everyone loved it and asked where I got it. From girlfriend to girlfriend, sister to sister, maid of honor to bride, it is a great book to give as a gift. Practical wedding advice interlaced with wit and humor, will put your bridal stress by the wayside.
Rating: Summary: wanted to like it Review: I bought this book for my sister two years ago, and have purchased 4 of them since that time for friends who have gotten engaged. The content is hysterical, the pictures are great, and it's the perfect "Congrats on your Engagement" gift. I've told each of these 5 women that when preparing for this big day gets really overwhelming (which happens to everyone right?), pick up this book and read a few chapters...it will bring the whole thing back into perspective. One friend just called me last week after her first bridal shower, and said, "Did you notice I used the trick from the Guide when I got two toasters last weekend?" --- definitely a great gift for all of your brides!
Rating: Summary: Regain Some Perspective...and Laugh! Review: I was heading down an ugly path...a bride-to-be swimming in the quicksand of planning a dream wedding...on a budget...barraged by the endless "must-haves" that are forced on brides from every angle. Not only was I getting stressed out, but I was driving my fiancee nuts. I either needed to quit my job and take on the planning of my wedding full time, or GET SOME PERSPECTIVE! The Funny Bride Guide saved me! Given to me as a gift (was this a hint?), this book had me laughing immediately. So many of the authors' dead-on observations and examples could have been pulled right from my experiences. I loved the fact that it was an easy read -- why make more out of it than it is? Brides-to-be don't have the time to weed through zillions of pages to get to the meat! Its a great little handbook, full of priceless tips and advice from authors that have obviously been there before. Hats off to Moro and Barrett for helping me to see the light: planning a wedding should be about you, and it should be fun! If you are taking it all a little too seriously (or know someone else who is), please do yourself (and your fiancee, friends and family) a favor -- read this book!
Rating: Summary: Great humor, excellent advice! Review: I'm in the process of planning my second wedding. The first time around, I read the "usual" books; you know, the ones that presume you have an infinite budget and that you only want the most traditional of ceremonies and receptions. This time, it's a little different. I wanted something that would give me useful information and be an enjoyable read. I definitely found it in "The Funny Bride Guide." This book contains good, sound advice along with some outstanding humor (e.g., repeated reminders not to let your lipstick fade). There is even a section entitled "gift receiving," which gives you ideas on how to handle multiples of the same gift (some ideas humorous, some serious) and the gift that cannot be identified. I read this aloud to my fiance, Jeff, and he found it absolutely hilarious. However, he *also* went back to re-read it and glean the valuable information contained in the pages. This is a quick, enjoyable read that will provide the most essential how-to information for wedding planning. I recommend it highly to anyone planning a wedding -- first, second ... fifth ... it will definitely be of assistance.
Rating: Summary: Not so funny Review: Thank U 4 your book. My wife and I think you are hilarious. That book is beyond funny. U would be great writers 4 sitcoms as well. We'll B lookin'!~
Rating: Summary: Not funny at all.... Review: This book was a pain to get through, even though it was so small. I do not feel that the "guide" provided me with any information that I did not already know, which was what I hoped to get from it. Also, I could not even imagine using the gift receiving section, as the possible responses ranged from childish to just plain stupid. I really wanted to like this book, but I could not. Instead, the book that I got my fiance, Peter van Dijk's "The Clueless Groom's Guide," was much more informative, not to mention funnier.
Rating: Summary: The Funny Bride Guide Review: This is an excellant book. My favorite part was how to responed to opening a gift you disliked. The chapter on flowers was informative. Also planning if you should feed each other after cutting the cake is a big help. This book should be in the hands of every bride.
