Such experience and generosity translate into a book packed with useful science, interesting and humorous history, as well as a wonderfully common-sense approach to gardening. Her month-by-month guide reminds us of not only what it's time to do but the pleasures, joys and mysteries that we enjoy when growing things - indoors and out - are part of our lives. It's hard to capture that wonder, but she seems to have done it.
