Summary: Calligraphy made easy
Review: I am a beginner calligrapher taking classes, and my instructor is using the Fred Eager method of Italic and cursive writing. Since this book is out of print, I was determined to try and find a used copy, which I did, and I am thrilled to have a copy in my possession. I now don't have to ruin my eyes using bad copies and the book is in really good condition so that I am improving with every class and every homework assignment. A beautiful book and method for those who have an interest in improving their penmanship and producing beautifully written text.

Summary: I learned to write from this book
Review: I bought Mr. Eager's book in 1975 and to this day believe this is the very best book on the market for teaching yourself the Italic writing style. The "trace and copy" method is excellent for teaching the hand to make the proper letter forms. Mr. Eager also goes into detail on the theory of the Italic hand, and why the letter shapes look the way they do. I love Calligraphy, especially the beautiful Italic hand. Heartfelt thanks to Mr. Eager for his fine book.

Summary: What a great find
Review: I bought this book when I was 10yrs old. I lost it for many years and have only just found it again (I'm now 35). It has brought back many memories and I intend to start writing again. It was a great book then and it still is now. It's a pity it is out of print now. I feel priviledged to own it.

Summary: Great Book For Learning to Write Legibly
Review: I didn't buy this book to make my handwriting artistic. I simply wanted to make my handwriting legible. The year that i was supposed to take penmanship classes at my high school(years ago) the classes were cutback due to budget concerns. I even was rejected for a job once because they said my handwriting indicated a lack of concern for the work. After I bought this book my handwriting improved greatly(though still not really artistic) and i thank this great easy to follow book for that improvement.

Summary: Does just what it says!
Review: I have always been interested in beauty and the arts, so calligraphy has always been fascinating to me. And when I decided it was time to do something about my messy handwriting, this book was a tremendouse help.

I first bought this book several years ago, but have since lost, misplaced it or given it away. As my handwriting has deteriorated from computer use and lack of practice, I felt it was time to get back to calligraphy. Imagine my frustration when I couldn't find the book! Now that I have it again, my handwriting continues to improve.

This book is very effective and does just what it says. It has clear, effective, and easy-to-follow instructions and excellent practice sheet templates. I've found that tracing the letters is the best way to learn how they should be formed, and this book makes it easy. The practice sheets are normal (8.5x11) size, so you don't have to mess with resizing on a computer or copier.

The results are pleasing and beautiful. And my everyday handwriting is more legible and pleasant to read, without looking like it was written by a high school cheerleader or an obsessive-compulsive neatnik (No offense to high school cheerleaders or obsessive-compulsive neatniks, it's just that that's not the way a middle-aged man is expected to write!)

The only negatives about this book are: (1)that it seems too short (it would be nice to have more information), and (2) that it teaches only one style of calligraphy. But, once you've learned everything in this book, you'll have a good basis for learning more calligraphy.

I sincerely wish that it was back in print, so that I could safely recommend it to anyone hoping to improve their handwriting or learn calligraphy. But, if you happen to find it, BUY IT QUICKLY! You won't regret it. (And if you do, let me know, I might take it off your hands!)

Summary: A great book, both for lessons and as a reference.
Review: If you just want to improve your handwriting or if you want to learn the fine art of calligraphy, this book is a good start. The author takes you step-by-step through 12 projects or lessons that start with the very simple and easy and then go on to the more difficult. The important thing is to follow the directions precisely and practice often. The book also includes many inspiring examples from real people (from age seven to senior citizen) who improved their handwriting through italic study. In the process of learning to write beautiful italics, this book allows you to develop your own, unique style of handwriting. In this day of mechanized communication beautiful, skillful handwriting can be very impressive!

Summary: The Best Book I've Ever Read About Italic Writing
Review: This book is the best book I've ever read on Italic writing. The lessons are structured in a logical manner. They're easy to do, and I was amazed by the end results.
