Rating: Summary: Not a first choice Review: I picked up this book at a local pet shop, because my husband and I are seriously considering buying a Pug. We already had one other book on the subject, but wanted to supplement it with more in-depth information on Pug care. After flipping through just a few pages of "A New Owner's Guide to Pugs," however, I decided to return this book and get my money back. Not only was there a lot of misinformation throughout (such as the statement that pugs do not have a double-coat, or that you should use a choke-chain to train a Pug -- wrong!), but at least a third of the book is comprised of information about the Pug "Standard," which is not very useful for those of us who are mainly interested in buying and caring for a pet-quality Pug. There are not a large number of books in print on caring for this particular breed, but if you want a basic overview of what to look for and and what to expect once you buy or adopt a Pug of your own, I'd recommend "Pugs: Everything About Purchase, Care, Nutrition, Behavior, and Training (Complete Pet Owner's Manual)" by Phil Maggitti as an excellent starting place.
