Rating: Summary: Working as a Therapy Dog Review: A must read for anyone interested in people and pets!! Lorna Stanart stands out from the usual dog writer in giving a prospective of how animals nourish and bring out the happiness and love in people from the dog's eyes. Her book is not only a guide on how to become involved in people-pet therapy, but also a warm and loving look into the warmth dogs bring into the lives of the saddest and loneliest individuals; people who primarily relate through the senses rather than through the spoken word. Although the patients are beseiged with medical disabilities, the book radiates such heartfelt love, one forgets about the sad and only remembers the glad. Everyone should give his child and friends this book. A+

Rating: Summary: Working as a therapy dog Review: Book is to the point. Each chapter is within the title. It's neat hearing from the dogs point of view. My favorite chapter was 16. What a wounderful way to give to others the wounderful pleasing touch of a loving breathing dog/dogs that really only want to please their owners, and by doing so they give joy and warmth to so many who often don't relate to a human. Thanks You Owners and Puppies.
Rating: Summary: This Book Covers Everything Review: In addition to being a charming story, as told by the Therapy Dog, Breeze, this book covered all of the questions that I still had about taking my dog into all sorts of different health care situations. No matter how well behaved your dog is, it helps to know all the basic "pet therapy" commands in order to keep the process uniform and safe. It would be wonderful to further the use of animals in health care facilities. They have such a magical way of bringing peace to the people who need it most. Anyone who has seen this miracle knows how important it is to encourage wide spread use of pets as therapy. With this book, we have an outline of what to do before, during and after a pet therapy session in order to show your pet in the best possible light. Hopefully, this will win over hospital and care facility administrators and relieve their apprehensions about allowing dogs in a hospital. Dogs and patients belong together and, although it's close, the patients benefit the most. This book is a must for anyone considering the most rewarding experience one can have...sharing your pet with people who are ill and alone. Brava!
Rating: Summary: Companionship as a healer Review: The love and companionship of my "best friend" Whitney, a Golden Retriever has been the one who gave me the strength to survive very serious episodes of severe depression. Many times, very close to the point of suicide, I would look at her, realizing her love and need for me in her big, brown loving eyes. She would ALWAYS be lying right beside me giving her unconditional love, never leaving me. Sharing this with others is a beautiful thing, as shown in this book, and needed for anyone who is hospitalized or handicapped. It will bring a smile to the face of a child or adult to have the opportunity to pet a dog, and feel the love each will give. This program expresses the kindness and caring for others, and I plan to become involved in this program with my best friend, Whitney.

Rating: Summary: Written by the dog? Review: This book was written by the dog and as such it is difficult to determine if it was written for adults or children. I personally am looking for information that will help me train my dog for therapy work. The useful information provided in this book, in my opinion, could have been summed up in one chapter. The book is more experiences that the dog has than information about what can and cannot be done, what should and should not be done, and technical information regarding therapy work.
